The Uncharted 4 Beta Leaves A Great Impression

Our Nick Keogan has played the Uncharted 4 beta. His verdict? You are about to have a great time with this The Last of Us-infused multiplayer romp.

Does it though? It's way too chaotic and not Uncharted in the slightest. It's the Last of Us on crack

Like always I wish they would realise less is more

The shooting, the climbing, rolling, the rope, the slides are amazing but the silly gimmicks ruin the experience. 2 El dorados here, a Djin there, rocket launchers flying around, NPCs being spawned, grenades being charged and thrown. Good grief. Then you have the changed controls all of a sudden.

The Arcade feel does not suit Uncharted at all.

Aloy-Boyfriend3059d ago (Edited 3059d ago )

Except those stuff don't get spammed as much. Hell not even I use the mysticals and the sidekick much. I just upgrade the grenade and buy RPGs because it is fun to kill with it. I feel it is a mix of U2 and U3 with some TLOU elements that fit just well. The ''silly gimmicks" like you call them seem very balanced to me and don't ruin anything. They add to the fun of the game

Now too chaotic is your new nitpick when Uncharted itself has been always chaotic SP wise. Now even the MP feels like it when everyone spam their stuff in the last minutes and it just fun. It's pure Uncharted: chaotic, fun, and lighthearted. Quite competitive too but it's still "not Melee," right?

So yeah impression has been great so far. Glad I waited before judging. ND know what they are doing and I'm loving it so far

-Foxtrot3059d ago

I don't get how people spaming rocket launches and recharging grenades faster so they can throw them around is fun. I had a match where I experimented and didn't try too hard during the match and even then I still got money to buy stuff, even with the stuff I had like rocket launchers and the NPC Brute I ended up gaining half the money for the next bunch of stuff to use all over again.

It should be

"Right remember that rocket launcher spawns over there, I need to get through the enemies and beat them to it"

Instead of

"Bang, bang, bang...oh treasure, sweet rocket launcher, buy"

People wanted Uncharted not the Last of Us, remember their quote "Uncharted is Uncharted, the Last of Us is the Last of Us" and yet the multiplayer the same rules don't apply.

LOL...they are not balanced, even if we take away the fact that I've always said gimmicks like those become unbalanced it's a beta things will be regardless so saying they are balanced at the start of the beta (when they aren't) is clutching for straws just to play down my point.

Like Uncharted 3 there is far too much for ND to balance and this is just a small potion of the multiplayer, god knows what other unlocks there is still to go.

How is "too chaotic" a nitpick, it is, it's literally a game where you rely on these new gimmicks to win instead of actual skill to overcome your enemies. Don't feel like getting involved? Relax just collect treasure drops and spawn an NPC to do the work for you or grab a power weapon for an easy kill.

The problem is it's trying to go after that audience like COD, the kids who love big shiny stuff but at the end of the day the problem with that crowd is once they see something else which is shiny and new they'll leave and flock to that instead. They don't stay in one place that's why games like COD have a new game every year, so what ND should be doing is focusing on the main, loyal audience which supported the shit out of Uncharted 2 back they first made it

Hell I didn't like Uncharted 3 that much but at least it still retained the Uncharted feel.

"Uncharted itself has been always chaotic SP wise"

Oh yeah because during the campaign if you hit enough enemies you could collect enough points to call in NPCs and use treasures from past games as super, duper power ups.

Least the single player doesn't give you help and makes you rely on skill to advance the story and get by objectives. They don't just spawn a rocket launcher in Drakes hand, if you see an enemy with one, you take him out, get over to him and pick it up.

Look I love ND but come on lets not do an Uncharted 3 where the beta comes out, people over praise it, only for it to come out and people are disappointed, so disappointed they request a classic mode.

Aloy-Boyfriend3059d ago (Edited 3059d ago )

Your opinion is full with U2 nostalgia. You don't like the fact that grenades can recharge yet in U2 you could also restock them by picking them up in certain points. How is that much of a difference? Instead of running like a fkin marathon to get RPGs, grenade launchers, and such first than everybody else, you have it at your disposal, and it also requires cash to restock RPGs (first 700 then 1000).

Cash managment here is key in order to use mysticals and gears. And for that reason you don't see players spamming them all the time. The balance here is how much they cost and the time limit players are able to use them. It doesn't break the game by any means

Say what you want about which audience ND is aiming to. Gaming is not only about you. It's about everyone. The game is fun and that's all that matters. Go and play your hardcore U2 and stop being so entitled

PSNghost883059d ago

See, thats how I originally felt, but as I played more, it grew on me. Im glad its not the same old same old. It may feel like LoU alot, but it definitely feels more like Uncharted 2 then Uncharted 3 online. To me that is a very good thing.
Also, if I dont play with friends, I get crushed. Teamwork is so important.

TKCMuzzer3058d ago (Edited 3058d ago )

I agree, the more you play the more you manage your cash. The fact it costs more each time you buy the same item is great. If you play as a team you can counter act all the runners and gunners and it feels good. Loving this over the other Uncharted multiplayers, plus the others also had plenty of chaos.

Eonjay3058d ago

I didn't put that much intense thought into it. It was fun and I enjoyed it. How do you enjoy games at all?

BiggerBoss3058d ago

Why enjoy games when you can complain about them? Wish I was able to play the beta, hope it's as fun as you guys say:)

Bathyj3058d ago

I barely read anything he said. Time is short and I have drinking to do, I just have to wonder does this guy like anything, why does he even game if he's never happy?

Sorry to be so blunt Foxtrot, I've had a 6 pack already and people tend to be more honest when drinking and lets likely to placate for the sake of not causing offence

-Foxtrot3058d ago

@Bathyj

You don't need to act like a dick. My complaints are completely valid

Shocking when people on the official uncharted forums are more honest then notes like this

It's Uncharted 3 all over again

Bathyj3058d ago

I said sorry.

Your points might be perfectly valid. I wouldn't know, like I said I didn't read them. I was more making a point how you have a propensity to dwell on the negative side of the medium you apparently love. It's apparent from the vast majority of your comments, and I'm not the only one to notice.

But you're right, I am a dick.

-Foxtrot3058d ago

Or maybe I just really really take this industry series that I cut the bullshit and know a dev can do better

You say negative but this but no one accounts all my posts with U3 and even before U4 reveal how much I love the series

The multiplayer was the only one I could get into now it's not even Uncharted it's become arcad like to the point when a new shiny game comes out most of you will drop it for the next new shiny thing

The original uncharted 2 mp was pretty arcadeish with the way people moved run and gunned random grenade throws weapon pick ups like rocket and the grenade launcher imo aka fun for me. I am not sure if you remember it correctly or not lol. and thirds slowed it down with the sprint and everything. This feels like just two but with some additions that kinda tbh makes me feel rewarded in a way. It kinda has that cod effect in the sense that its really addicting and fun like the early cod mps. Again it is a beta so I don't know

So far you are the only person I have seen criticize the mp so far on here who has played the beta. Maybe thats a thought to think about. And hey if you don't like it you don't I guess

-Foxtrot3058d ago

Lol...really

Only one....check the forums you know where people are actually honest enough to get things balanced

thricetold3058d ago

Don't pay any attention to that dude, he's only interested in playing some type of skillless map control weapon pickups mode that favors camping out weapon spots for easy kills or simply beating the enemy to the better weapons to conceal his inability to actually beat anyone if they use their preferred weapon instead of some crappy weapon.

Krakin13058d ago

Dude you've sold me n this mp experience. Sounds like a lot of fun!

Vaneriuz3058d ago

I wish people would stop comparing this to TLOU multiplayer... It's nothing like TLOU multiplayer. I've spent tons of hours in TLOU, and Its MP is unique for starters, also, it's rarely chaotic. It's slow and tactical. And it's one of the best MP I've played. Just a shame they didn't release even more maps after that first pack.

SnotyTheRocket3058d ago

You complain too much. It's fun. Uncharted 2 was 6 years ago, it's time to leave it behind.

freshslicepizza3058d ago

it looks like fun and the online allows them to break free from the single player campaign.

foxtrot sometimes you need to allow yourself to have fun and stop analyzing things so much. i know it's very very hard for you but give a try and maybe just maybe you might be a little more positive in the forums.

thricetold3058d ago

And once again no one agrees with you, yet you think and claim to speak for the majority. Just go play your map control UC2 and let the rest of us move forward.

The beta is much better than I expected. I am fully on the hype train!

TwoForce3058d ago (Edited 3058d ago )

I enjoy it a lot. But ND need to fix the matchmaking, it takes me awhile to find player.

Rimeskeem3058d ago

Yah, that was a problem in TLOU as well. My only other problem is that the teleportation special lasts far too long and should not last through death.

littlezizu3058d ago

I suck at MP shooter so i skip MP part of game but U4 beta even though i still suck, it pulls me in as it fun ,enjoyable and also freaking addictive. Gonna play more to improve my skill.

Also Matching Making takes less than a minute for me, so i think they resolved that as some where complaining.

S2Killinit3058d ago

Its really good to hear. And its expected from such a talented developer.

The best games of their generation too. Its incredible how great most if not all of playstations games are. Whether you like the stories or not you cant deny the quality of each title.

Hated tlou part 2. But im going to buy it when it is cheap enough because i want to play the remastered content for $10 extra dollars. Theyre adding a roguelike mode...thats going to be fun!
