Do Gamers Really Deserve Content?

Taken from IM PLAYIN

"There is a trend growing of games not delivering the amount of content that we come to expect. This is not a new issue by any means, but an important one."

These publishers should make sure the base game offers quality content instead of being quick to announce season passes

Rimeskeem3497d ago

If we, the consumer, are paying good money for an item we should expect enough content to validate the purchase. When this does not occur people do not buy the game this usually creates the downfall in price for the game making it so the demand increases.

ECONOMICS!

Legion213496d ago

Say what you will about Call of Duty but the games are never slim on content. Between zombies, multiplayer, and campaign there's enough to warrant the $60 price if you enjoy COD.

Agheil3496d ago

^ Agree. Stop copying pasting the cod comments each year....

Simco8763496d ago

You guys actually think CoD is worth the $60 each year??? hahaha, for some terrible maps and rehashed gameplay? I'll give AW what it's due and say it was worth it, but that's the exception not the rule.

Legion213496d ago

I never said it was worth $60 EVERY YEAR or the games were good. I'm just saying if you like COD and/or multiplayer shooters there's a enough content to warrant a $60 purchase.

SUCKxITxEZ3496d ago

Advanced warfare actually had the least amount of content on disk,as it didn't have a legit zombies map (that stupid zombie round in survival doesn't count) and survival mode doesn't really make up for that. CoD ghosts was the only other CoD that weak on content. Black ops 3 has the shadows of evil zombie map, dead ops arcade, 4 player co-op campaign with a new game plus mode that changes the story and enemies.

Well that wins the award for most ridiculous headline on N4G for a while.

I appreciate the article but this guy must be living in a delayed universe, The reputation was ruined 10+ years ago and hasn't recovered since. As such people have voted with their wallets and stopped buying Xbox products in large amounts.

YourMommySpoils8h ago

Their reputation was lost way before that. From the moment Microsoft said they entering the console business, we all knew it would be a downgrade.

What reputation is this threatening exactly? 😂

Rumors of Turn 10 being either shut down or hit with massive lay offs is on the horizon.

The issue is MS will do something right only to do something very, very wrong. And they do this what seems calculative at this point. Doesn't matter what they do the Investors and leadership want more and more money an endless bottomless pit of purr insatiable greed. A company that acts like it's broke or hurting is what really, really infuriates me. They've surpassed apple again well over 3 trillion who acts like they're a million dollar company is fk stupid. Pivots and changes for no reason and can't do things for more than a year with out a pivot or changing their metrics.

Christopher13h ago

That would be really bad since Phil just hyped up next year as a big Forza year at Summer Game Fest.

@christopher: “ That would be really bad since Phil just hyped up next year as a big Forza year at Summer Game Fest”
The key word big can be ether good or bad 🤷🏿only time can tell

DarXyde10h ago

First Forza being generated entirely via AI?

If any company would do it, it'd be them.

Nacho_Z15m ago

Isn't the point that it's irrelevant how profitable MS is, the suits have decided it's time that the Xbox division started making them money. Hence the layoffs, the pivots.

It’s really old now. All great MMOs decline.

Also who wants to keep paying a monthly fee every month, there are other options like Guild Wars 2 😁with no monthly fee and while not that many people overall compared to FF XIV, it did increase to about 21 mil now.

kaewcha7347h ago

Looks like Square Enix is self-aware but still stuck in place, they see the player drop and apologize for the bugs, but nothing really changes. Shame, FFXIV used to be the gold standard

Servbot416h ago

My entire free company has stopped playing. The writing has consistently gotten worse and the content is sparse and lacking; unless you are a hardcore player there's very little for you to do. They are over-catering to the people who will grind three+ times a week on a single fight for multiple months when the playerbase by large doesn't want that sort of content. Square needs to dedicate more resources to the game instead of wasting them on mobile and other live service slop.

The biggest factor for me is the way they butchered job design over the years , the casualization and over simplification really hurt a good chunk of enjoyment I used to have . Jobs lost any form of complexity and just became " press glowing button" DDR style for fighting where the gameplay loop is a about the 2 minute burst window . They removed most DoTS, timer mechanics , cast times, pets, RNG ect and all around homogenized everything . When you try and can cater to everyone ... you cater to no one .
