Who Did Boston Better? Fallout 4 or Assassin’s Creed III

GameZone: "2015’s Fallout 4 is not the first time we’ve seen a virtual Boston. Back in 2012, Ubisoft’s Assassin Cred III also took place in Boston. Granted, both of these games didn’t take place in the present-day capital of Massachusetts; Fallout 4 is set in a post-apocalyptic 20897 while Assassin’s Creed III is in the 1700s during the American Revolution. Regardless, it’s fun to think about who did the city better."

neither did it better because they werent set in the same timeline. atleast from my knowledge. there isnt much of a comparison to be made here each game was depicting something different.

But it's the quality of what they were depicting that is being questioned. Being from MA, Fallout 4 has all the little touches and nods to what you'd find in MA these days. You don't have the copyrighted names or such, but they're there (Newbury Comics to Hubris comics, Harvard Square to Cambridge Square, Fenway), in addition to the regular cities and what not Castle Island, Swan Pond, etc. AC III had some touches, but it was mainly the more famous of the places in the revolutionary time frame.

Having lived in Boston for 8 years FO3 did a tuurrible job of recreating it. Few a and the Commons were a disaster. Haven't yet seen them take on Faneuil Hall, the Patriot trail, Back Bay (Commonwealth Ave) etc.. yet. It doesn't feel like Boston, so I don't really bother looking anymore. And the scale is all screwy. Of walked from Back Bay to Cambridge. It's 20 miles round trip. It takes all day.

You lived in Boston for 8 years and you think it's called the Patriot trail ( http://www.cityofboston.gov... )? Go take a walk down the Freedom Trail in the game and you might learn a thing or two.

In most games scale will never be 1:1, but do you really expect to have all the locations around Mass like Revere, Quincy, Malden, Concord, Jamaica Planes, etc and be able to walk around without it taking you irl days to get any where? There are no horses or cars to quickly get from one place to the next.

Didn't even click on the article because of reading this in the description...

"Fallout 4 is set in a post-apocalyptic 20897"

20897??? Sounds like they just made up random numbers... 2287***

I wouldnt know.. I quit playing fallout because it really annoyed me with all the micromanagement.. The bugs & tired old engine didnt help either.. I tried to like it but its not the right time for me to play it.. Just not in the mood but ill give it another shot one day.. AC 3 is way too underrated imo.. It was a great game & Boston looked great..

Fallout 4 on Switch 2 seems inevitable, but what about Starfield?

A Fallout 4 Nintendo Switch 2 port seems like an inevitability, but what about other Bethesda RPGs like Starfield.

I think all games will end up on switch from Xbox. MS has embraced going to other platforms now if games aren't doing well on Nintendo MS may be more selective in the future

On playstation they have been quite successful

anast34d ago

I'm not sure too many people want to play Starfield.

Profchaos34d ago

Phils all but confirmed they are going in hard with the switch 2

TheColbertinator34d ago

All are welcome to Switch 2. Microsoft Games Studios is interested in long term profits and market value not petty fanboy thoughts.

Why Assassin's Creed 2 and 3 Had the Best Writing the Series Has Ever Seen

IGN - Assassin's Creed's focus on character-driven storytelling has been buried by its RPG sandbox features, and the series is weaker for it.

RaidenBlack58d ago

A rare W opinion piece from IGN.
IMO, Ubisoft needs to setup two primary AC dev teams. 1 would focus on and release character-driven OG-style AC games for OG fans and the other would continue the current RPG-ified AC style for current fans.
Release by them Bi-annually and alternatively. There'd less fatigue and a boost to quality.

I definitely appreciate 3 more after playing it again in recent years along with the Liberation game. Back when 3 was new I was still riding high on AC2 and Brotherhood so when I played 3 I felt a bit let down. Even the ship battles grew on me.

AC2 - Yes

AC3 - Urm...I don't know

I feel they kind of dropped the ball with AC3 and with the way the story went it just didn't make sense to me at all. I felt it would have made more sense lore wise if they had it so the Red Coats were mostly Assassins and the Templars were mostly the Colonists who wanted this "new world" as a fresh start for their operations, to build a country up they'd have full control of from the start so they manufacture the war as something else while really it's just a front for the Templars vs Assassins.

It just meant that since the Red coats lose the war it explains how the Templars have gained full control of future America and how the Assassins have slowly died out by then. This entire event would have been the turning point of how things went to s**t for the Assassins and how there's not many of them left in the present.

Haythem was a lot more interesting than Connor and he should have been the main Assassin of AC3.

I thought AC2 was the greatest of the series and it is but replaying it recently, I stared to see more flaws in the game. Basically every single mission is an assassination besides a few tailing missions lol. Still, the implementation of all the new mechanics were great. The smoke bombs, disarming guards, story, hidden tombs, swimming, flying machine, multiple locations, etc. it definitely felt a bit more special to me at the time of release though

isarai57d ago

Dunno about 3, the 1st act was cool, then i couldn't tell you what happens after that. But 2 was so good! The entire acts 1-3 were al memorable, whereas i really couldn't even tell you what happens in any other AC game

Starfield is actually a RPG. Bethesda hasn't done that in a while.

GhostScholar136d ago

People acted like starfield was so less interesting than fallout and drastically different, but I call bs on that. Both are decent games, but they are both filled with the appearance of things to do and items to interact with but 99 percent are just there to be there with no significance. Fallout has better character work but they are both sort of illusions that they’re vast.

Studio has been going downhill since Skyrim. Every following game gets dumbed down more than the previous. I'll be shocked if Elder Scrolls VI even has dialogue options.

anast135d ago

Fallout 4 was bad, real bad. Starfield might even be a better RPG.

trez1082135d ago

Fallout 4 wasn’t a great fallout game per se but real bad? I don’t know maybe I’m a little biased because I replied it not long ago and had fun with it.
