Xenoblade Chronicles X Review | GodisaGeek

Lee Garbutt: "I have enjoyed Xenoblade Chronicles X so much that I am planning to start it all over again from the beginning, so I can really take my time with this absolutely gargantuan adventure, and I rarely feel that way about any game, let alone one I’ve been playing almost non-stop for a month. This is an essential purchase for all Wii U owners who love the JRPG genre."

Some have criticized the slow-paced beginning (who cares, is there a JRPG with a "fast-paced" beginning?) and the allegedly weak characters and soundtrack, but the Metascore is at a very decent 84. I'm still buying it.

Havent heard anything bad about the soundtrack. Mostly the mediocre story, which is a shame.
Also the lack of tutorials

... and the lack of the original Japanese voices, which have been butchered out to make room for an English dub.

The Gamespot review mentions the soundtrack: " may instead be reeling from the soundtrack, which is dotted with low-rent tracks that make you reach for the mute button." And yeah, many have found the story to be kinda mediocre, and others have noted the lack of tutorials, too.

Ill be the judge if its good or not.. Monolith soft is a great dev team & these types oof games are rare to come by these days.. The market is too western influenced & flooded with shooters.. This will be a great refreshing experience this year.. Friday cant get here soon enough! This game might only have a cult following but i usually love games like that.. Ive been hearing that its essential to read to instructions to fully understand what to do.

Hi, this is Lee (the writer of this review). You definitely need to read the game's manual to get a good grasp of what's going on. Quite a lot of the time, you'll be engaged in mechanics that aren't explained 'til far later then you started using them. The manual for this is pretty good though, so it's generally a good reference guide anyway.

Despite that, you're going to love it - It's a nice, beefy JRPG that'll keep you engaged for a very long time!

There seems to be some criticism regarding the slow start and the way that some story elements are gated-off by fetch quests, but I've only read good things about the soundtrack. It's cheesy, but good (Jim Sterling in particular LOVED it in his review... Repeatedly).

Personally, I liked the soundtrack. It's very Japanese, and I think that's what caused some reviewers to dislike it. Cheesy music is perfectly fine for the tone of this JRPG. The fetch quests are a little long in the tooth, but it's not a dealbreaker.

It's a shame some RPG's have slow beginning.
Why can't they just throw you in the action with the story.
For me personally it's important.
Look at Suikoden 2, wish more RPG's would follow that somewhat of story at start. It just sucks you in early, you want to know more about the story.
