A number of online retailers have begun taking pre-orders on Sony's new 80GB PS3, which will go on sale on August 27th.
am getting my preorder
replaceing my 60gig, what nM chips in it?
which really sucks... i'm hoping for a late/early august release...
Wouldn't you be downgrading your PS3 by replacing your 60GB with the new 80GB? The reason I say this is because it doesn't have the backwards compatibility, 4x USB ports, Card readers, etc.... Wouldn't you be better off just spending your money on a bigger hard drive??
No smaller chips. 80GB version will be the same as 40GB, except double HDD size.
65nm CPU and 90nm GPU, just like the 40GB, the 60GB had 90nm for both cpu and gpu
thats why im getting the 80gig
Well I work A Toys R' US in Canada and I got to talk with a Sony PR. We had a good time talking about the PS3 and he was surprised that our store had 3 MGS4 80G PS3 Bundle because supposedly we weren't suppose to get any more. When I asked if it had anything to do with the new 80G Core PS3 Bundle he said yes. I asked when about well we see it, he said hopefully around early September. This shouldn't be considered as fact and it also should be noted that he represented Sony Canada.
keep your 60 gig
why are people Preordering the New 80gb's when the current 80 comes with MGS4 and PS2-BC? It's Worth the extra $100.
Just get your ass in gear. 80GB for $399 and 40GB for $299, holiday coming up.
even if i have never played a PS2 game on it but I do see a need to upgrade my harddrive sometime in the next year or two....its cheap so i might do b4 then yea keep your 60GB
Ya, i love my original 60gb. But, I also still play PS2 games sometimes, and I put a 320gb drive in it.
Yeah, I'm keeping my 60gb. In the future I'll upgrade the space hopefully. Lol and the phantom disagreer returns!
Hope I can help balance it out for you Juuken:)
... how long will they make us wait!? I can wait, dont get me wrong, and I WILL wait. It just seems ridiculous that they wont release the white PS3 here in Europe. Also, no game bundled in!? I'll just wait for a good bundle or bargain to come along end of the year, instead of picking this up.
The only real advantage for us Europeans is that it comes with the DS3 other than that the machine is still pretty expensive for what you get (hardware-wise). I mean, they want you to use lots of usb ports yet only give you two, wheres the logic in that? Yes I could get a USB hub, but one of the main advantages of the original ps3 was that you didn't have to pay out extra for unsightly peripherals to hang outside the console because it had a lot of what you needed built in. Neat and tidy!
it's got WIFI, and the controllers are wireless. and the newer models come with a official fan test(which most people don't know about). the only gripe would be PS2 BC, but why would you buy a PS3 to play PS2 games?
If sony just re released the original 60 GB at a $299.99 Price point and included the Dual shock 3, they would win without a doubt and it would be game over for the 360 guaranteed. It makes me mad because as much as I love the PS3 and the games, i do notice sony's stupid moves. With sony its always been "One step forward, two step backwards" with the PS3
Maybe it's technically difficult, or something - though i can't imagine it would be... but i've never understood why they haven't released some small cheap minimalist 'PS2' attachment for the non-backwards compatible PS3s. Sure, i understand the logic behind not wanting the tech as a standard - and all it's costs - inside the console going forwards, but with so many PS2 games in their back catalogue and with so many PS2 owners out there, who i'd imagine would jump for the chance to not have to have two consoles hanging under their tv's, it just seems like it would be a no-brainer. The sales imbalance between backwards and non-backwards compatible machines (in spite of the formers price) you'd think would give Sony a clue about this. I mean, figure in the attachment and they could sell as many (even) 40 gig's as they can produce most likely. With a harddrive swap, if necessary, so easy it's the backwards compatibility that's the obvious sticky point for moving these units. I don't know.. it baffles me.
You cant just price things w.e you want it just because it will sell. It has to sell and make a profit at the same time. ATM this number of sold systems mean 0! to Sony if they are not making a profit on each sold. Also with the economy heading in the wrong direction its even harder for Sony to make price drops in the US.
I agree that a $299.99 price point will sell like hot cakes. It's almost confirmed a lot of people WANT a PS3, but cant afford one. IMO they should have just repackaged the 40gb with the DS3, and dropped that price down to at least $349.99. But I guess fitting a larger HDD isn't that expensive, and like the above commentors said. It's no use for Sony if they aren't making any profit. So far, they are finally starting to make some profit at their current price, and people are still buying the PS3s at a healthy rate. Though it's not 360 killing sales, it's still sales.
"Additionally, it has just two USB ports and does not include an ethernet cable." Because it includes WiFi...
The launch ones came with an ethernet cable... but mine is sitting somewhere covered in dust due to Wi-fi. So's my 360's ethernet cable, but I had to pay extra for the "privelege" of wireless.
lol yeah, I forgot about that. My PS3 also came with an ethernet cable. But in this day and age where WiFi is really the norm. An ethernet cable is only needed on the 360.
Well This one is perfect Aug 27th release with DS3. I am highly considering one although I dont like 399, I may wait for 299. However, all I have is ps1 games so its all good for me and my FFVII etc. Card slots were lame didnt like them at all, gets all dusty in there and seems like a price waste, after all I want a game machine. BC PS2 was a luxury to me, but I can deal with out it. and 4 USBs, whats kind of annoying about that is I noticed rock band can use all of those. I think they should do 2 on the front and 1 on the back.
