Fresno Bee | Fallout 4 is the first masterpiece of the latest console generation

Fresno Bee video game columnist Rory Appleton writes: "I emerged from the sterile, familiar vaults to find a bleak but beautiful world. The title’s true genius is the imagining of what Massachusetts would look like 300 years after nuclear war. This plot design allowed developers to mix WWII-era weapons, buildings, music and characters with futuristic elements. The resulting cocktail of nostalgia and science fiction creates a distinct feel perhaps only mirrored by “BioShock: Infinite” – one of the finest games ever made."

Masterpiece my a**, really tired of fanboys ignoring the issues with the game acting like they don't matter.

htogaming3514d ago

Nothing is "Perfect".

Some people don't see the issues until the issues are pointed out.

The views on Fallout 4 are just point of view targeted at different people.

It's still a masterpiece despite it's technical issues. Can't agree with "first of this console generation" though, that was Bloodborne.

Yui_Suzumiya3514d ago

Sorry but what issues? I've put 50 hours into the PS4 version and have had none.

JeffGUNZ3513d ago

Dude, did you actually play it? The "issues" are so minimal and are being blown out of the water. I was so nervous when I read these article to first play it the day it launched. I haven't seen really ANYTHING that has altered my experience or any major Framerate drops. The game delivers on the most important aspect of gaming; Fun Factor.

Kalebninja3513d ago

I have the game on PC, I'm 10 hours n.

SCW19823514d ago

Nope, Bloodborne and The Witcher take that title.

WellyUK3513d ago

no not with its terrible mission design and repetitive quests.

DeToX4203514d ago

Super Dark souls 2 Turbo doesn't belong next to witcher sorry lol.

Yui_Suzumiya3514d ago

Neither.. Fallout 4 trumps all.

guyman3514d ago

Sorry no name site, but bloodborne was.

iNFAMOUZ13514d ago

Yup not only GOTY but the true first masterpiece of this gen, I can't put it down, runs perfect too, at 2k 60-79fps
the friggin world is so HUGE xD, after work I come home and only have like 2 hours to play, but mannnn! in those 2 hours I barely get anywhere cause im too busy exploring, the world is huge! and some matches with raiders zap your time FAST, im playing on survival, so its a tad bit more time consuming, but im loving it, shout outs to Bethesda, ignore the haters, cause this is a beast of a game. But of course its Bethesda, my favorite developers now.

iSuperSaiyanGod3514d ago

The world is huge lol . You don't even have to do mission you can get side tracked wandering around so easy

I think i made the mistake of giving Mama Murphy too many chems. Because I could never get my settlement past 98% happiness, and it even cost me the Platinum.

Fallout 4 on Switch 2 seems inevitable, but what about Starfield?

A Fallout 4 Nintendo Switch 2 port seems like an inevitability, but what about other Bethesda RPGs like Starfield.

I think all games will end up on switch from Xbox. MS has embraced going to other platforms now if games aren't doing well on Nintendo MS may be more selective in the future

On playstation they have been quite successful

anast79d ago

I'm not sure too many people want to play Starfield.

Profchaos79d ago

Phils all but confirmed they are going in hard with the switch 2

TheColbertinator79d ago

All are welcome to Switch 2. Microsoft Games Studios is interested in long term profits and market value not petty fanboy thoughts.

Starfield is actually a RPG. Bethesda hasn't done that in a while.

GhostScholar181d ago

People acted like starfield was so less interesting than fallout and drastically different, but I call bs on that. Both are decent games, but they are both filled with the appearance of things to do and items to interact with but 99 percent are just there to be there with no significance. Fallout has better character work but they are both sort of illusions that they’re vast.

Studio has been going downhill since Skyrim. Every following game gets dumbed down more than the previous. I'll be shocked if Elder Scrolls VI even has dialogue options.

anast180d ago

Fallout 4 was bad, real bad. Starfield might even be a better RPG.

trez1082180d ago

Fallout 4 wasn’t a great fallout game per se but real bad? I don’t know maybe I’m a little biased because I replied it not long ago and had fun with it.
