Xseed developer banned on Neogaf for his opinions on fanservice and sexualization

Something odd appears to be happening on NeoGAF today — regular poster Tom Lipschultz of XSEED has been mysteriously banned, and we’re not sure of the reason. Some of our readers have pointed out the most recent thread he was involved in, a lengthy 30 page discussion on whether fanservice in video games bothers people. After looking at his posts, we could not find a solid reason why this happened. The discussion appeared to be pretty civil, nobody seemed to fly off the handle or do any trolling, and some posters seemed to agree as much as disagree with what he was saying.

Typical SJW Neogaf can't take other people's opinions. So what do they do? Ban them of course. Neogaf is an embarrassment of a gaming forum and a perfect example of how SJW act and censor what they don't like.

That place is a joke. It's been irrelevant for many years. When people want to talk about games, they go to an image chan. When people want gaming news and rumors they go to Reddit or a site like this one. NeoGAF hasn't been relevant in years.

I'm more surprised there are still people left to ban.

Start banning developers or publisher representatives or higher ups, and the entire reason the site was popular in the first place way back when when it was actually hard to get a posting account there kind of goes away.

Seriously, unless a dev or pub is coming in stirring up hate, you don't silence them. You want to get a way to engage directly with devs/pubs? Don't ban them. You want those oops moments where some juicy piece of news is leaked through a random comment? Don't ban dev/pubs. Want a dev/pub to speak their mind on the way things are, or how they view them so you can reasonably make assumptions on why things are that way? Don't ban them.

This is why so many pubs/devs are so cautious in what they say. It's so easy to stir up controversy with the most innocuous of statements, and most devs/pubs rely on their marketing department to interact with the public. You get them in a place where they start to open up more freely with the gamers, and that's a good thing. They shouldn't be chastised for expressing an opinion, or going against the grain.

If a dev went on Gaf and said they're all a bunch of clueless gamers who have know idea about how market forces work, then went on to explain them, he'd be 100% right, and then would probably get a ban, while gaf mods congratulate themselves on keeping the status quo of their precious little forum where they think they have some influence over...well I don't know what exactly...those that don't have minds of their own I guess.

I don't think devs/pubs are gods among us or anything, but a lot of their opinions and views do have a direct influence on the games we'll play, and I for one like having a way to talk to them as a gamer.

Golden Axe is a great game I enjoyed it on the SMS, Genesis and in the arcade. Great game but it truly was a quarter eater back in the day. I wish Sega could get the rights to the arcade port of Moonwalker another great arcade game I enjoyed. Collect so many monkeys and become Robo Michael lol.

It was worrisome to begin with.

It's a niche genre with only a handful of hits that can stand the test of time.

I like the sound of that!! I will for sure never support these gaas games.
Sony must be shocked at gamer's reaction, making them cancel a few of these and hopefully go back to the good heavy hitters they had us used to..
now bring on that PSPro reveal and show us some SP 1st party awesomeness.

What’s to be unsure of!? Look at the ratio of success to failure!

It's pretty ridiculous.

Imagine having a breadth of data at your disposal to see the statistically low success rate of these games, only to be laser focused on the exceptional case studies.

Yes. Stop all the live service bs.

Only a few will catch on. You need a perfect storm to be successful in GaaS and a bit of luck on top of that. But a potential cash cow will keep them trying and some will go out of business because of it.

Helldivers 2 manages just fine…

Keep production costs low… don’t just make custscenes until the mechanics and enemies are perfected first.

Make so much content that you can drip extra content for years, and the game already feels complete without them.

Most importantly: make weapons, enemies, levels, and mechanics that will stand the test of 1000 hours. This might require more devs embracing procedurally generated leveled, which I think separates Helldivers 2 from Destiny’s repetitiveness.
