The occasionally extreme performance issues found in the console versions of Fallout 4 make those versions more difficult to recommend than their PC counterpart.

In no way, shape or form is this game a 6 out of 10! 10 hours in and loving it.

nommers3455d ago

It's enjoyable, and can be their personal GOTY if they'd like but reviewers have a job to do first and foremost. They should never give a game special treatment just because they like it more or prefer the style more, and vice versa shouldn't condemn it either.

They're comparing each game to every other developers hard work out there, and money is on the line (for developers and reviewers) just because of reviews.

Bugs and game crashing/freezing are unacceptable if just because your system could wind up bricking, even despite how much fun you're having playing the game.

Speaking of fun, there's no way to gauge that sometimes in comparison to other games. It's too subjective. Flaws like bugs and game crashing/freezing though are understandable on a universal level to condemn in all general consensus.

Hell, I like this game a lot so far, but I would never give it any accolades based on the flaws presented. If it presented some revolutionary new game design I would praise it for that and give the game praise accordingly but nothing more or less.

To bluegobin . Jeff Gertsmann gave the console version of Fallout 4 a 3 out 5 ! Not a 6 out of 10 .

bluegoblin3454d ago

To defender of doom.... 3 out of 5 and 6 out of 10 is the exact same shit..did not know it took a genius to figure that one out.

Yikes, if Fallout 4's taught me anything it's that YOU should tell yourself how much you love a game, not reviewers or other gamers...the reason I say this is because everyone seems to hate Fallout 4, but I on the other hand love it. I haven't had this much fun in ages. It's rare for me to marathon a game (I have a short attention span), but I just got finished marathoning Fallout 4 and I loved it.

lelo2play3455d ago (Edited 3455d ago )

Everybody hates Falout 4? Where did you get that from?

Personally, 6-8 hours in and quite enjoying it. Playing the PC version, runs nicely and haven't encountered any major bug.

LAWSON723455d ago

Go look at metacritic and you will see many many complainers.

Heyxyz3455d ago (Edited 3455d ago )

"Everbody" is an exaggeration, but look at comment sections, forums, and like @LAWSON72 said metacritic, where it's being metabombed. There's hate for this game everywhere...

BTW, I have a lot of disagrees. Usually I don't care, but this worries me because it seems most people who read my comment think a game reviewer or community should decide if they like a game for them. It's either that or people hate the fact I said I love Fallout 4...

I recommend people actually read the review and not just the score. Giant Bomb does a really good job with reviews and this is a good one.

You of course don't have to agree because all reviews are subjective so there is no right or wrong.

JoeMcCallister3455d ago

Having reviewed it myself, I really didn't find the issues Jeff did - but I do typically take their opinions into consideration and most of the staff there at GB doesn't seem to just react emotionally so I typically put a bit more stake in their stuff. While I disagree with him having played a ton of it so far, I see his points, and I might've just been lucky and not had bugs beyond a few frame drops, I'll look forward to the Bombcast to hear the rest of the team's input because I don't think everyone had the experience Jeff did.

You make a great point though, reading the reviews thoroughly is always a better idea than reacting to a 3/5 on one of the most anticipated titles ever.

Mega243455d ago (Edited 3455d ago )

I haven't seen one single bug or performance issue, 10 hours in. So I don't understand where are people getting this, or why are they being to critical about it. I think they are just blowing things out of proportion for the clicks.

Edit: for clarification, I'm playing on PC; GTX 970.

Christopher3455d ago (Edited 3455d ago )

It's the subheading on the article itself...

"The occasionally extreme performance issues found in the console versions of Fallout 4 make those versions more difficult to recommend than their PC counterpart."

And right below that: "Editor's note: The above score applies to the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game."

JoeMcCallister3455d ago

Played on Xbox One for review here and didn't have problems beyond a few instances of frame rate dropping, but still not to 0 or anything that I consider experience breaking. It seems Gerstmann had a bad time, and that sucks, but idk if I just got lucky or what - not one jarring glitch or error through 40+ hours.

twiggytree123455d ago

This review is for the console versions, not PC.

cd13455d ago

I'm sure these frame rate issues will get sorted in time, hopefully sooner rather than later as i was hoping to buy this for my Xmas break. No biggy if not, I still have an unfinished Witcher 3 to play.

Fallout 4 on Switch 2 seems inevitable, but what about Starfield?

A Fallout 4 Nintendo Switch 2 port seems like an inevitability, but what about other Bethesda RPGs like Starfield.

I think all games will end up on switch from Xbox. MS has embraced going to other platforms now if games aren't doing well on Nintendo MS may be more selective in the future

On playstation they have been quite successful

anast19d ago

I'm not sure too many people want to play Starfield.

Profchaos19d ago

Phils all but confirmed they are going in hard with the switch 2

TheColbertinator19d ago

All are welcome to Switch 2. Microsoft Games Studios is interested in long term profits and market value not petty fanboy thoughts.

Ex-Starfield dev dubs RPG’s design the “antithesis” of Fallout 4

Starfield is actually a RPG. Bethesda hasn't done that in a while.

GhostScholar121d ago

People acted like starfield was so less interesting than fallout and drastically different, but I call bs on that. Both are decent games, but they are both filled with the appearance of things to do and items to interact with but 99 percent are just there to be there with no significance. Fallout has better character work but they are both sort of illusions that they’re vast.

Studio has been going downhill since Skyrim. Every following game gets dumbed down more than the previous. I'll be shocked if Elder Scrolls VI even has dialogue options.

anast120d ago

Fallout 4 was bad, real bad. Starfield might even be a better RPG.

trez1082120d ago

Fallout 4 wasn’t a great fallout game per se but real bad? I don’t know maybe I’m a little biased because I replied it not long ago and had fun with it.
