FortressCraft can be viewed as a Little Game That Could, starting life as an $3 Minecraft clone on the Xbox Live Indie Game marketplace, which kept selling and selling. Finally, it made the leap to PC in 2013 when it entered Steam Early Access.
Two years later, the game is finally launching as FortressCraft Evolved, and it certainly has evolved, going from a pleasant little Mineclone to a tower-defense/roleplaying/stra tegy/building game hybrid where players crash land on an alien planet and must fend themselves off from periodic alien attacks as they build and run an advanced mining operation.
Unfair though it might seem to review a game in comparison to others in its genre, there’s simply no way to discuss Projector Games’ FortressCraft Evolved without making reference to the “block game” behemoth, Minecraft. Mojang’s simple little game has become not just a favorite among preteen gamers (and gamers of all ages), but a genuine cultural phenomenon, spawning dozens of respectful imitators and downright ripoffs.
OnlySP: The original FortressCraft, released in 2011, quickly became one of the best-selling downloadable games on the Xbox 360. It is a bold and ambitious voxel world-building game that has produced a lot of buzz and excitement already. FortressCraft Evolved is the new ground-up Unity rebuild of that original game. Its developers, ProjectorGames, have bought the game to Steam as an early-access title, which will be updated and built-on as the team move toward its full release.
FortessCraft was good on 360 i had it was fun for sure but i can't for a sequel
Oh yeah I remember Fortress Craft, the guy who cashed in on Notchs success....and not being inspired by him like something like Cubeworld or Terraria but basicaly copying what he did, then denying it
Evolved seems to be a bit of a bigger project that the original. I think there's a lot more going on here than the original project.
Originally released in 2011 on Xbox Live Arcade, FortressCraft is looking to have a second wind. The highly successful indie block game is being re-built from the ground up by Projector Games.
