Minecraft: Story Mode – Episode 2: Assembly Required Review | New Gamer Nation

New Gamer Nation:

Telltale’s first episode of Minecraft: Story mode was a decent start, but Assembly Required fails to take off and improve upon The Order of the Stone’s promising story threads. There’s hilarious scenes and some good character arcs, but they’re buried behind other tiny plot devices that make the episode too busy – especially since this is one of the shortest episodes of any Telltale game.

Depending on which member from the Order of the Stone you chose to follow in the previous episode, the beginning of Assembly Required is vastly different. You’ll either travel with Olivia to find Ellegaard, the legendary engineer; or with Axel to find Magnus, a master of destruction. These two openings are vastly different, and they’t actually pretty lengthy. It’s definitely worth your time to check both out, as Telltale hasn’t done an in-depth branching path like this in quite some time.

Minecraft Story Mode: Episode 2 Review | 8BitChimp

Evan says. "The second episode picked up moments after the first concluded; having chosen which member of the Order of the Stone I wished to pay a visit first, we set off in search of her. Again Minecraft Story Mode‘s soundtrack is superb, its graphics visually enticing, and its characters, while still a bit hollow, are well written most of the time. It’s really hard to write this review with such little to go on. Some forced “emotional” triggers fall flat, far fewer humorous moments and just a dearth of everything really. Its only saving grace is that soundtrack, which is absolutely fantastic."

Minecraft: Story Mode: Episode 2 Review - GamerKnights

GamerKnights has done a full review of the second episode of "Minecraft: Story Mode", Assembly Required.

More:

"The most impressive thing about the episode is that the first few chapters can play out very differently based on your choice of whether to rescue Magnus or Ellegard. It’s nice to see such a detailed branching choice, and it makes it worth replaying the start of the game over, which helps to mitigate the fact that once again, a full playthrough of Assembly Required barely stretches to 90 minutes."
