Microsoft India's director of interactive entertainment business talks everything Xbox-related.
Microsoft's current strategy with the Kinect is the complete opposite of what we witnessed during the Xbox 360 days.
It takes time to shine! X1 will eventually show its true colors. Either things will stay the same or like the Crackdown 3 demo "shake them haters off"!
It's taking along time to show its true colors. And don't even try to bring demo presentations after Kinect and Project Milo fiasco.
at above.
Exactly. Also, Crackdown 3 demo looks neat, but we still dont know much details about it... I mean it seems like it is taking a huge hit on hardware and resulting in weaker graphics.
This gen we have been chasing on secret sauce after another until nothing comes to fruition.
Just enjoy the great games coming out. instead of waiting secret sauce to shine...
A sentiment to be shared for all manufacturers right now. Given time, competition, and talent, we're all going to be some well taken care of gamers before we know it.
@beans. No haters here. We just see the truth, unlike you with your wishful thinking.
^^
Actually beans is right. The Xbox One has been showing more and more of its true colors since launch. It's almost a completely different system than it was at launch. Backward compatibility and an improved UI is happening this year alone. DX12 and the cloud will bring even more positive changes for gamers. Doesn't seem like wishful thinking to me...
My theory is that they put Kinect games on the shelf when they repackage the Xbox one without the Kinect. Why would they release games for the Kinect when a lot of the people were buying a Kinectless Xbox One? MS is now biding their time until people without a Kinect will feel more comfortable buying one and not feel burned for not buying the packaged Xbox One with Kinect. I say by next E3 we'll see some Kinect stuff. The user base will there for MS. This Xmas a lot of people are going to upgrade to this gen. Halo will help that.
@magiciandude
"The Xbox One has been showing more and more of its true colors since launch"
Actually, one could argue that XBOX 1's pre-launch showed more and more of MS true colors up until the actual release where they had to put some grey in the mix (pun fully intended) and essentially pull a 180 just in time to avoid total meltdown.
What benefits/improvements came after were actually side effects of MS's efforts trying to pick up the pieces of them showing too much of their true color palette at once.
Dont ever make the mistake of believing that they changed and that they 'love you long time'.
@beans as pointed out the Crackdown 3 shown was a tech demo and we need to see the real thing in the wild.
Here a PS4 tech demo to go with Crackdown - https://youtu.be/bYDBP947ec...
Both demos tell us what is potentially possible if NO trade-offs were made. But the reality is game development on any platform is *always* about trade-offs in the real world, before a final game ships.
The question is how few trade-offs you can get away with dependent on all the variables involved in shipping a game.
I don't think he knows what the word "phenomenal" means, because no phenomenon is happening with Kinect this generation, or making it desirable enough for people to choose that experience over the competition in any big way.
I get that it allows some extra non-gaming features for those that want that, but it would be good if there were still developers making games for it, in all honesty.
I'd like to see Microsoft try to make the Kinect relevant again. I still think the tech is conceptually very impressive, and if used properly could usher in new and exciting gameplay elements.
I wonder if there's a chance of Halo Wars 2 having some sort of Kinect optional functionality? That could be interesting.
I really enjoyed Fantasia: Music Evolved, still do multiplayer with a friend occasionally.
Other than that, I've got my monies worth just for the practicality. People are happy to hate on it, but it really does make life that little bit easier and I wouldn't go without mine!
gamingbolt, eh?
I like my Kinect. I wont be buying any future iterations of Xbox without a Kinect. I am a believer. Useless for gaming but for console usability the thing is insane. Cant remember the last time I physically tweaked the volume on my AVR.
I might get a Kinect in the future. But right now it is still too expensive for me and I don't seem to have an immediate need for one.
I would like to see Kinect become more viable for pc. Not an Xbox fan, but would love to use it for games and programs with Windows 10.
I actually was sat playing Mario kart 8 yesterday and I looked down at the Kinect on my desk and said "why the f••k do I have this thing taking up space" so it's been disconnected and put away. Might make a good door stop one day.
It's a piece of junk. I use it for 'xbox record that' and 'xbox snap party'. That's it.
If Kinect was so important, im sure games would use it in a fun and unique way.. Its been 2 years since launch and seems like the whole idea was brushed under a rug.. What can they possibly do to make people want the thing all of a sudden?
This is something they say when they're not doing anything with it, but they don't want to piss off fans who bought the device, so they say that it's "important" to them.
It's hard to believe at this point that the Xbox One is actually beginning to build momentum against the PS4.
3 price cuts in less than 2 years helped. But they have changed a lot for the better in other ways too.
The crazy thing is that it could've been a lot worse but they changed everything before the console launched. On top of that add the fact that it dropped the price drastically and it's easy to see how they overcame the 2013 blunders. Just like the ps3 the Xbox one had bad unveiling but the difference is that Sony stood their ground. Wonder if the Xbox one would've been as successful if it would've done the same.
Yeah they really turned the Xbox around quite remarkably.
A lot of damage is done though and irreversible.
But the right thing happened. MS deserved it. Now I'm set to enjoy a brilliant gen
..minus the dlc fiascos and all the other toxic falafel trends.
Still waiting for Xbox One sexy AAA Exclusive JRPG, but Fanboys be like "Xbox One no need no JRPGs". If Xbox One don't start being inclusive with all developers, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Russian, Asian, African, South American, All. Xbox One ain't gonna beat PS4. JRPGs with Cloud Tech, Do it!
Sony stood their ground because they could due to brand strength and because of years of arrogance culture within the company. The Playstation brand is so strong due to domination in PS1 & PS2 era.
Even to this day, many people have fond memories of Playstation the same way Nintendo has. MS just got this to some degree with the Xbox 360.
In short though, if you look at the Xbox history, it is filled with a very agile practice filled with trying new things, pushing boundaries and innovation. MS really pushed console gaming industry forward in many positive ways even today with Xbox Live Cloud Compute initiative.
Unfortunately even with the turn around on Xbox One, the damage done by themselves and perpetuated by the media will weigh down MS this entire console generation.
MS is in a comfortable position right now and that is - 3rd party devs cannot ignore the existence of Xbox1 unlike Wii U.
Having said that i really don't see anything coming out for Xbox1 after 2016. Nothing has been announced for PS4 either but at least we know Sony has enough first party devs. MS cannot match the numbers and even if they do make games - will xbox community buy them if it's not shooters or racing games?
If MS is planning to sell as much as they can this Holiday and planning to see themselves through with the help of 3rd party games like in the last gen, then it's going to be tough because 3rd party games are looking better on PS4. And the generation has just begun.
MS has no great exclusives apart from GeOW, Halo and Forza. They have no more 3rd party advantage. They can't introduce new exclusives that are not shooters or racing titles successfully because the Xbox crowd don't buy them enough and very few ppl will want to buy xbox for an exclusive or two.
If i was an Xbox executive, i would be looking at these facts and be little worried about its future.
I had to laugh at the description,
"the Xbox One is actually beginning to build momentum against the PS4"
Soundso more like wishful thinking than facts
Sony didn't stand their ground they had big price cuts, a redesign, and removed features. Not only that the DS3 controller was pure junk. Especially when compared to the 360 controller.
All of that combined caused Sony to lose almost 50% market share. Just like MS mistakes have cost them the same.
@pope
PS3 outsold xbox 360 every month it was on the market worldwide. They made changes but what was a huge install issue was 360 being out a year to a year and half with 0000 zero competition. It still lost though.
Mixdup,
It's not that he said something negative....he laughed at the description which you even admit is incorrect it says against the ps4, you said against itself. So he is right to make his comment because the description is inaccurate. Nobody has to hold a comment for inaccurate information just for xbox sake.
@Blacktar
Thats funny if it was outselling it since day one why would they cut the price so fast and so many times (two total in a year) and release a slim within two? For fun? Out of love?
The PS4 fanboys have been trying to claim this since the beginning but its just not true.
Oh the Xbox lost. I suppose it only saw a 500% increase over the original xbox and sold basically the same number of consoles as the PS brand (taking 50% of the market share from them) which had been around for 10 years before the first xbox but sure if a few thousand more PS3 counts as a win. Its all yours. In real life its a MASSIVE win for the Xbox brand. But hey you don't live in real life. nor do most PS fanboys.
@pope the ps3 sold faster then the xbox 360 did <=== Fact
PS3 has more sales then xbox 360 lifetime with 1 yr less and 1.5 yrs less in EMEA<==== fact
So yea the ps3 was blown up in the media about being a bust etc. etc yet it's sold faster then the xbox one or at the same pace yet xbox one is what in a great spot? The xbox truly would have been lost in the dust if the ps3 released at the same time.
Also PS2 i believe in the same time frame only sold 20more million consoles year for year. The ps3 will probably hit 100million before it stops selling. THe xbox360 did not take 50% of the market share it took 50% of the market share int he USA and did so with a year head start. Anyways you throw around the fanboy title all the time, LOOK in the mirror for once.
@thepope
Please stop. I can't help but think you're trying to make Xbox sound like the OG Nintendo. Xbox isn't the savior to gaming.
@mixdup
You really live up to the name friend. What Heavy said is true. There's nothing wrong with stating the obvious around here. Of course, many won't like that but it's life
OT I think these articles are kind of funny. IMO the only reasons MS has helped their cause IS because of price cuts and backtracking. How many times do we need to be reminded of that stuff? Now for those that want to start arguing, yes Sony did drop the price of the PS3. They did what they had to do to sell systems against one that was already on the market AND cheaper. Some of the whistles were gone, but the bells were still there. It was still the cheapest BR player on the market at the time. It was still updated constantly. I honestly don't think if MS stood their ground they'd have half as many systems sold. People buy on price, sometimes solely on that. It tells a lot when Sony can sell as many PS3s at the price they did. X1 had to drop the price when it was already cheaper than the PS3 was
@shyronnie
WHy you lying dude? Sony never said they removed DRM from their presentation. That is 100% BS what they did say is they rewrote the preso to sound off on them not having it after MS shot themselves in the foot. I swear people just lie for no reason. It doesn't even hint at it as removing the DRM all it says is they rewrote it to pile on to the MS snafu.
You people.
http://ps4daily.com/2014/07...
@Famous
Created your account a day ago and have been trolling since then. You must have few N4G accounts by now.
Now in relation to the so called 3 price cuts?
Microsoft launched a X1 SKU with Kinect for 500€. Microsoft later on launched a X1 SKU without Kinect for 400€. Do you consider that a price cut?
When the X1 SKU without Kinect went from 400€ to 350€, that's a price cut.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the X1 only had 1 price cut until now.
You're not wrong.
The trolls must think that if they repeat a lie often enough people will start believe it.
Not one price cut. They just unbundled kinect smh. So explain the 3 price cut. This site is ridiculous
Phase 1: Fire Don Matrick.
Phase 2:__________
Phase 3: Profit.
Seriously though, promoting Phil was a smart move on Microsoft's part.
I still believe that Xbox One should have launched in Q4 of 2014 but obviously didn't want to give PS4 a year head start.
Crazy how much it has evolved since 2013. Going from the Titanfall hype to almost Halo 5's launch has felt like 2 different consoles.
I really like the direction Xbox is heading in and glad the PS4 played a big part in shaping that direction.
Next generation should be interesting.
"Next generation should be interesting."
Pretty much what I been thinking. some interesting seeds were sewn this gen. I think the next xbox is going be an absolute beast. They will never allow themselves to be the lower specced console again....
They were weaker in specs last Gen too so don't know what you're referring too
@dboyc310
Not entirely true. The xbox 360 had the faster GPU and its approach to RAM usage was better, hence why so many multiplats performed better (google it yourself). Of course PS3 eclusives shined better due to the Cell being the better CPU, but the flip side of that is MS hardly had any 1st party devs that were pushing the console on the graphics front, but thats another conversation..halo 4 was a great example of what could be done with the x360 and its one of the best looking games last gen.
Both had their advantages but better GPU potentially means better graphics..the X360 had the better GPU. simply was not really pushed. funny thing is the PS4 has the same advantages over the X1 that the X360 had over the PS4: easier to develop for. better GPU. better RAM solution.
And as I said in my initial post..which you seems to have gone over your head. MS are more active in their 1st party activities. Crackdowns cloud tech will be game changer for how 1st part xbox games are developed. these things will only mature with time and experience and will shape the next xbox. That is why I think people who think otherwise will be in for quite a shock...especially if anything comes of those AMD rumours..and AMD are ripe for purchase right now....
Its all speculation right now. I dont have a crystal ball. But Im usually pretty close ....maybe Im just lucky at guessing these things though.
Flex the PS3 was the more powerful console, the problem especially for 3rd party developers was accessing that power, the 360 was certainly easier to develope for and that was it's biggest advantage, but in terms of raw potential the PS3 was the clear winner.
I may be wrong but i think the original Xbox was more powerfull than the ps2, but the 360 and One have been down on raw power compared to the playstation rivals.
"It's hard to believe at this point that the Xbox One is actually beginning to build momentum against the PS4."
....It's not. PS4 has outsold it every single month this year(except for April) and with Octobers price drop, even Halo 5 might not be enough to finally outsell the PS4. Then there's the upcoming Star Wars and Call Of Duty bundles for PS4 in November. Again I ask, how exactly is XB1 building momentum agains the PS4?
Your definition of momentum is sales. As a console the xbox one is building momentum as a viable option compared to the PS4 or as a worthwhile second console for PS4 owners who like the look of this years xbox exclusives and next years. If anything xbox one is starting to resemble the original xbox's approach.
What you just said makes no sense.
You just said momentum doesn't doesn't mean sales, but then said momentum will lead PS4 owners into buying an Xbox One for exclusives.
@famous
He was talking in terms of the xbox one beating the PS4 in sales. I was defining the xbox as an appealing platform someone may consider. I'm not saying everyone is going to buy one and it will out sell PS4. I'm saying it's momentum as a desirable platform is building.
.....its always been a viable alternative to the PS4. Always.
There fact is that the PS4 has and always will be seen as the better choice by most. This is why I'm talking about sales. Because momentum = Sales.
A console can't have any momentum if it sells like crap.
@ItechHeads
So you value momentum on sales? What ever happened to games, features, etc. Are you that blind to sales that you rather point to sales in every Xbox article instead of actual games.
Why do you mention Starwars and Call of duty like they are not coming to Xbox One. You did the same last year with Destiny stating it would sell more on PS4, how did that turn out?
In response to your question Xbox One continues to build Momentum by offering fantastic games with great value, reviews and most importantly overall fun, Xbox live has more then 39 million active users and that's with sales decline on Xbox 360. Last but not least look at the awesome features the Xbox One offers that is not possible on your PS4. I call that building momentum.
Keep holding onto sales I still have 4 more exclusives to play by the end of the year. Halo 5, TombRaider, Gigantic and Fable Legends add in third parties games like, Assassins Creed, Battlefront, Rainbow Six, COD, fallout, Just Cause That's 10 games I play compared to 6 you play. You can keep your sales I rather have the games. That's what I call building momentum.
Funny how many Xbox fans say that Sony fans play sales, not games, yet forget that the Xbox One didn't have a single exclusive since November 2014 (unless you count Ori) until the Gears and RARE remasters launched. Now you get 3 exclusives (one being a timed exclusive) and all of the sudden you gloat about games.
Destiny only sold more on Xbox in NA. Worldwide PS4 has sold more copies. That doesn't even include the copies that were with Destiny PS4 bundles.
@Heavyx
Try harder in 2015 Xbox One has had
ScreamRide-March
Ori and the Blind Forest-March
State of Decay- April
Halo ODST-June
Rare Replay-August
Gears of War UE-August
Forza 6-September
Halo 5-October
TombRaider-November
Fable Legends-December
Gigantic-December/January
Did I mention Xbox also had the most MMO's in history this year.
Dungeons and Dragon Neverwinter-March
Happy Wars-April
AirMech Arena-May
World of Tanks-July
Smite-August
Onigiri- September
BattleIsland- October
@Heavy if you see a shortage of games please advise. LOL
Lol, ScreamRide? Seriously? You should be ashamed, and State of Decay is not even exclusive.
It's funny how you totally ignored my point about no games between November 2014 and August 2015 (oh, wait, you got ScreamRide, LOL) but you listed games that either recently launched or haven't even launched.
@ MichaelLito79:
I see you listed both console exclusives and indie exclusives on console. So let us put the PS4 console exclusive list:
1. The Order 1886 (February)
2. Bloodborne (March)
3. MLB The Show 15 (April)
4. Omega Quintet (April)
5. J-Stars Victory VS + (June)
6. Onenchabara Z2 Chaos (July)
7. Deception IV: The Nightmare Princess (July)
8. God of War 3 Remastered (July)
9. Until Dawn (August)
10. Everybody's Gone to The Rapture (August)
11. Tearaway Unfolded (September)
12. Disgaea 5 (October)
13. Dragon Quest Heroes (October)
14. Uncharted: Nathan Drake Collection (October)
15. Earth Defense Force 4.1 (November)
This are all the known games. All retail releases with the exception of Everybody's Gone to the Rapture.
Fable Legends-December
Gigantic-December/January
These 2 need to be updated. Fable Legends might not release this year. It still has no release date. All the ones I mentioned already released and the last one has set release date 11.3.15
By the way onigiri is on ps4 and world of tanks is coming soon. the rest may happen as well.
***It’s hard to believe at this point that the Xbox One is actually beginning to build momentum against the PS4.***
I get what they're trying to say, but it's failed to gain momentum so far. In order to gain momentum, it has to sell more than the PS4 for at least one month. And then we can say there's some momentum. And, having said that, outselling for two months still isn't momentum.
***What motivated the company in that direction?***
Losing in sales. As long as they continue to lose in sales, they continue to focus on what gamers want. If they had come out of the gate winning and maintained it even slightly above the PS4, what you have now would have now would have been drastically different.
***that listen to the consumers and if you know wherever we can you know tweak the product and the functionality to offer what the consumers want.***
Too bad they don't have this policy prior to creating something that users don't want and without listening to users. Windows 8 was reviled, so a quick Win 8.1 and a full Win 10 to fix some of those issues (and create a few more, though very minor in relationship). XBO at release was reviled and forced a product most people didn't want, so finally listen to "users" when they fail to equal up to the competition.
What would it be like if they listened to customers prior to encountering major issues?
Par for the course really. Sometimes people learn off others mistakes. Others clearly aren't clever enough to do that.
Hey, it makes the gossip more entertaining.
"In order to gain momentum, it has to sell more than the PS4 for at least one month"
Exactly. The Xbox One's momentum is in relation to what it was selling before. Not in relation to the PS4 because the PS4 itself is also selling more than it was before.
In their NPD statement, Microsoft said they were up YoY so this is in fact what they meant by momentum. Its not a comparison to Sony. Its a self assessment.
It was the "users" who didn't understand things like the relevance of the cloud, or that you could play used and share games just like any other console(in fact, better). "Users", who never used the console(?), acting like entitled brats through their ignorance.
MS should have been more clear, TBH, but everything was detailed at the E3 reveal. Besides that, Sony had DRM policies in place like MS did, but since they went second they were able to use the confusion and DRM backlash against MS just like most ignorant people still do today.
1. I don't think users were at all ignorant. Users pretty much know a tactic to trap how you use your content when they see it. That's exactly what it was.
2. Sure, they should have explained things better, but the fact that they didn't have answers told users exactly the pitfalls that would exist with that sort of system. Why didn't they come out from the get-go with exactly how users would be able (or not able) to share or sell games?
3. Sony didn't have any DRM policies in place. Stop spreading lies. You're just mimicing idiotic journalists who draw their own conclusions from Shuhei saying ---
"There were lots of people who gave their opinions on that issue to my Twitter account before E3," SCE Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida told Famitsu magazine this week. "It's not that our hardware policies are decided strictly based on user reaction like this, but when we were thinking about what we had to bring across and how to bring it across, it was a very useful source."
If you don't think MS didn't do the same thing in this regard as Sony, you're mistaken. But, at no point has Sony ever stated they had plans for DRM or said that they nixed it because of MS. All they said was they used feedback from MS to help direct how they tell users about their console and its tools. Same thing everyone else does and not a sign of a drastic change in policies.
For those people who don't think drm was ready and in place for ps4 please do your ressearch as evidence was found in the terms and use agreement I believe.
Sony always goes second. Which to me is a safe route.
MS has balls so they go first.
@ ScaReCrow90:
Sony did not hide it. They left it there for publishers and continued to say it would be up to publishers. There is no evidence, unless you can provide it, that it was going to be implemented. Maybe in the future and once again up to publishers. Microsoft had balls, you are correct. They also got broken by the wave of discontent to the point that many switched over to Playstation. There was nothing noble about the Xbox One reveal. That was one of the most arrogant spectacles that I have seen from representatives of any company anywhere. They downright insulted people without good internet connection.
I see that Microsoft has changed for the better. But find surprising that anybody could so blindly defend their arrogance from the Xbox One reveal. They downright insulted people. Those are not the kind of balls we should be proud of.
1. You're being an ignorant user with that post, because there was no "trap". The people who agree with you prove that users are ignorant more than I could on my own though, so thanks for the help.
2. MS said that you could take your disc to a friend's house and play it like normal. If access was attempted on the install without the disc, the system would ask you to put the disc back in OR buy a digital copy to continue playing. They also said that while they wouldn't charge a used fee themselves, they would allow a publisher to charge a fee for playing used games at their discretion. Just because their conference was convoluted, doesn't mean it wasn't said.
3. You think this all stems from one quote? Do some research. Besides, you're not seriously going to suggest that Sony would directly admit that they had DRM too, only to face similar backlash to that of MS, are you?
1. No, I'm not. They only said they would implement a program for selling back stuff that was up to the publisher and that it would be at limited locations. They didn't have any answers other than that. They had so many unanswered elements to their system, and that really worried people. Why come out with something so different when you can't answer everything? The complaints were that people were being limited by what publishers would decide and by the location that MS or publishers would decide. Mom & Pop would be affected as it would likely be set to places like GameStop. That also means more traveling to sell a game if you didn't live near one. And then there were issues like how much would you get back, how it would be sold to a second party since it's technically just selling a digital game, and more. It looked exactly like them attempting to give second hand sales to the publishers so they could earn more money rather than losing out like the current market. It was a huge step back from what players already could do, and it seemed that there was no benefit to players since in the long run they would be paying more and having less control since everything you could do then, you can do now (you can still take a game to a friend's house and play the game within minutes with your latest save point).
2. No one talked about using games on friend's consoles. I was talking about used games, as in selling games that you no longer want. This has no bearing on the conversation at all until you brought it up.
3. It really does and any thing else people could find to trump up a reason why. There is zero proof that Sony had DRM policies other than people making leaps of logic. You've provided zero evidence here, for example, you just tell me to do research when I have and have never found any that says Sony planned for DRM and then changed their mind. None. Heck, I provided a quote that most people have used in news articles to claim as such, whereas you provided nothing but the claim that it's true.
Even with the blunders, Xbox One still became Microsoft's most successful console. They were able to break the third console curse.
HUH? Most successful console? It wont come close to 360's numbers which took off and dominated the US.
It's currently selling more in the same time frame. If that's not a hint to it selling better so far I don't know what other clear evidence you need.
Yeah it is, have you been living under a rock? It had a much better start than Xbox 360, which actually didn't take off as you say it did because of the constant hardware failures. Xbox 360 even sold fewer units in its second year than it did its first, and it got Halo 3 in its second year.
Wii was actually the dominant console in North America from 2007 to 2010 and Xbox 360 was only the dominant console in North America from 2011 to 2013.
@ ani
Don't count on Xbox One coming out on top in North America. Even at a cheaper price it still sells fewer units than PlayStation 4 in the region.
Fun trivia:
Xbox1 is selling as fast as PS3 from last gen.. And listen to this.. PS3 was Sony's worst selling console.
@ani,
Calls others they are not Nostradamus, predicts future like he is one.
@ nix
No PS3 was at 17 million at this point in time. Xbox One is actually selling slower than PS3 mainly because its not as globally appealing
Third console curse? Can you elaborate. Who was wiped out after the third console? I hope you don't mean Sega, the Dreamcast was not the 3rd console. In any case 1 precedent would hardly be a curse.
Phil Spencer even said recently around 150 gamestop managers told him, people still today come into their stores and believe xbox one can't play used games. When faced with that ignorance xbox one will never fully recover. The console reveal was everything and MS failed miserably.
In lot of ways though it was for the good of xbox one, because least it forced Microsoft to adopt a true first party game policy.
I have no regrets buying it, it has games i like to play.
If you like a first party game policy so much I don't understand why you direct so much hate at sony.
Sony is playing the waiting game when it comes to first party. I hope at the Sony event they unveil a ton of new games. If not then that's a huge insult to its entire fan base including myself.
If we don't look at the pc. Which you really shouldn't since its not a console. Between the consoles Xbox has had exclusives coming out all the time. A big variety at that. I am still kinda waiting for my awesome game time with the ps4
@ScaRe
"Between the consoles Xbox has had exclusives coming out all the time. A big variety at that. I am still kinda waiting for my awesome game time with the ps4"
http://gamrconnect.vgchartz...
The PS4 has always twice the amount of exclusives in more genres. Are you really this ill informed or are your being deliberately stupid?
And remind me, after November last year which console didn't have a single AAA retail exclusive release in 9 months?
Xbox has exclusives coming out all the time, huh?
Do you realise how utterly wrong everything in your statement is?
@ScaReCrow90:
I cannot believe the amount bull I am reading here. Here is the list for 2015 PS4 Console exclusives:
1. The Order 1886 (February)
2. Bloodborne (March)
3. MLB The Show 15 (April)
4. Omega Quintet (April)
5. J-Stars Victory VS + (June)
6. Onenchabara Z2 Chaos (July)
7. Deception IV: The Nightmare Princess (July)
8. God of War 3 Remastered (July)
9. Until Dawn (August)
10. Everybody's Gone to The Rapture (August)
11. Tearaway Unfolded (September)
12. Disgaea 5 (October)
13. Dragon Quest Heroes (October)
14. Uncharted: Nathan Drake Collection (October)
15. Earth Defense Force 4.1 (November)
You probably have never heard about half of them. That won't surprise. All most play on Xbox are shooters, shooters, and more shooters as evidenced by the bad sales of Forza 6. Not even in top 10 of NPD.
I will tell you this Bloodborne 92 metacritic and Until Dawn (80) are the best two games of this generation. The Xbox One has nothing yet compared to them. Halo 5 is their only hope and it has a review embargo lifting on Monday at 3 pm. Sony has 17 studios that make exclusives and many released games on 2013. Don't make me put the list. More than 10 exclusives that year. We all know game development takes 3- 5 years. 2 if lucky. So what are you expecting? Should be ashamed that Microsoft has not created any worth while IP with its own studios. They bought Halo from Bungie, Gears from Epic, etc...
Waiting game, seriously? Microsoft is a multi-billion dollar company with more income than Sony. The should be ashamed that they have not even funded some epic games of the likes of Uncharted, God of War, The Last of Us, etc..
If you were a bit critical and objective you would at least recognize that Microsoft is worse than Sony in the waiting game. 2016 will close so many mouths it won't even be funny. The gap of exclusive games is going to widen so much I wonder what Xbone is going to do after that. Fact is don't expect any new ips from Microsoft 1st party. They don't do that.
@scarecrow 'I am still kinda waiting for my awesome gametime with the PS4'.
Maybe you should buy one then.
@kratos, great list but it won't make any difference though. Apparently PS4 still has no games lol.
Where is it building momentmum??? What a BS title,, it is getting outsold as much as ever and cheaper to boot.,
It's not cheaper as they are both $349, and Microsoft still has the more expensive Xbox w/ Kinect SKU option as well. Keep in mind that the Xbox One was $100 dollars more expensive for almost eight months before the Kinectless SKU hit the market.
X1 was $50 cheaper January through September this year. PS4 won every month in the US except April. X1 got smashed worldwide every month since release.
So, please explain the momentum thing to us?
@Yom- I never said anything about momentum as I'm not claiming that Microsoft is either gaining or losing traction. I'm only stating that it isn't the less expensive console as he stated, and that it was also the more expensive console of the two by $100 for the first eight months on the market.
What I don't get how is the PS4 selling better in the US. This is suppose to be Microsoft home turf
Gaming is a division. When talking about sales, the 360 and ps3 should be included aswell.
Good grief how retarded can people get? They haven't turned ANYTHING around. They've done multiple price cuts and heavy incentives like free controllers and games just to avoid being completely buried. Then people want to shift the focus on how much 'better' Xbox is doing since launch as if they have changed a single thing about their sales approach. And even with all these moves they're making they still cannot keep up with the ps4 just in this country alone, the country they dominated last gen. They are doing little to change their image of an online fps focused console and people are getting it now. All Sony had to do was a small price cut to ensure that halo 5 wouldn't even make a dent, seeing as the holidays are all the Xbox team seems to focus on.
One day the cheapest xbox you could buy at retail was $500, then the next day there was a bundle available for $400. That is a price cut. Get that through your head. THAT. IS. A. PRICE. CUT.
Deal with it.
If you can only get a product at a certain price, then the manufacturer removes something and sells that product for less, it's tantamount to a price cut in the eyes of consumers, and the manufacturer, too.
Anshu Mor is an Indian and I think he's specifically talking about the Indian market which I believe is not, despite India having a population of about a billion, a big console market. That said, I believe that the X1 is competing better in the USA than it was last year (not sure about other markets) so, I guess you could state that it's gaining momentum against the PS4 in some markets.
I don't see how they are gaining momentum they are doing fine but, they have fallen so far behind in sales and market share that this generation is all but lost. The X1 appeals to a certain demographic and they need to do some serious work on expanding their brand to appeal to a broader gaming demographic. I personally do not like MS as a company because of the way they do business. They have a history of trying to screw you over as a consumer the red ring of death, and the policies prior to X1 launch are evidence of that.
Some gamers grew up with the xbox 360 and have fond memories attached to the brand unfortunately for MS what do you do with the gamers that don't have attachment to your brand. MS has a core demographic with xbox 360 owners but outside of that what are they doing to convice me to buy into their gamening eco system. The reality is that the only thing that would convince me would be some killer new IP's that I can't play anywear else which they don't have at the moment.
Overcome? by hiding the sales of the console. Thats the only way and the best move.
This PR talk after another month of not being able of overcame PS4 even with the best games in the history...
Whoa that momentum....I mean come on already with articles like this. I am sure they are being positive and the big fall update is almost here and they have Halo 5 dropping next week but seriously...they wont even release official sales number for the system!?!?!?! I find that strange because they have said time fter time they are doing better than the x360 was at the same point so why not just come out and say 'Ok we sold 14 or 15 million'or whatever it is they sold??? Whats the big secret/deal? By not doing that when they have done it in the past it makes it seem very shaky and not as good as they would have you believe. I for one own and love my XB1 but as a consumer and a gamer like to know from time to time just how well my investment is doing marketwise. I still love the system but as I said they were quick to let us know last gen how well x360 was selling/doing. I understand Sony is selling alot more but its no reason to appear you have lost the fight and are afraid to divulge any info. Anyway its all just my two cents worth on this.
ok how are you building momentum when your being outsold???? that kinda doesn't make sense
That is 100% true, its a much better console now. I did like their original plans, but, I'm in the minority. Adn before people start with...DRM and cant sell used games...I buy digital and yes you could sell used games if you bought physical. THe end users would have seen no difference.
Kind of undermines the article when there is another article up where Microsoft admits defeat won't announce consoles shipped anymore on the same page as this one. How did they overcome a blunder yet are losing so badly consoles shipped won't even be announced by them anymore?
Microsoft has done an incredible job of pulling themselves back together- after spending five years with a slim catalog of exclusives and only a few first party studios and games, they have spent the last few years working on building up an enviable portfolio of Xbox exclusive games.
Honestly Halo 5 is shaping to be the best FPS shooter and will definitely be stand out from COD/Battlefront/R6 Seige.
The amount of content and free dlc is what every shooter out there should be like. Instead of selling map packs like COD/Battlefield and surely Battlefront and most likely R6 Siege, they should be doing their games like Halo 5. Its a perfect example on how much content should be in a FPS.
Hopefully they keep that trend in future Halo games.
Lets take a wait and see approach because after Halo 4 I don't know if 343 can deliver like Bungie.
Shaping to be the best does not mean i said it is the best. But from what i have seen so far, like i said, it is shaping to be the best. And to be honest i did like the story in Halo 4.
I am a single player guy so i cant say alot about the mp because i didnt play much of it.
@SCW, Halo 4 was far from a bad game at all, but I can see why you think the way you do. All I can say is that the time I spent with the Beta, along with all the gameplay we have seen and all the details we have gotten about what Halo 5 will be...I have zero doubt that this will be the FPS of all FPSs. But who knows, maybe i'll be the guy who gets let down. Doubt it tho.
Maybe not mp wise but story wise they killed bungie already. Halo 4 had the best story with the most detail and understandable dialogue plus the terminals were easy to find.
Have you paid attention to what 343 is doing ?
Halo 5 looks amazing so far and they really are listening to the fans on everything.....except split screen.
Hype level fo5 Halo 5 grows by the day and every new piece of info helped increase it even more.
Couldn't stand Halo 4......Halo 5 looks 10x better.
Halo5 will be one of the best games to come out this generation so far, but I have to say also, that Black Ops 3 was super fun to play during the open beta. I had very little expectation for Black Ops 3, but it's looking great.
After playing the open beta for Starwars Battlefront and the beta for Rainbow Six Siege, the quality and quantity of game content in Halo5 and Black Ops 3, looks to surpass everything else on the market by a longshot.
I loved Halo 4, it had the best visuals, best controls and best story telling out of all the Halo games iv played, and I have played them all including Spartan Assault and Strike. 343 have already delivered and I have more faith in them then I did with Bungie especially after playing the 1st Destiny. Apart from afew trolled reviews like the 2/10 1 reviewer gave it, Halo 4 sits on a very healthy 87 meta and sold over 9million units lifetime. If Halo 5 was anything like Halo 4 I would be very impressed.
After playing Halo 5 beta I can tell you that the gameplay feels the best and if 343 can offer its story telling into Halo 5 then I am possibly looking at the best game in 2015, even beating my favourites in Witcher 3 and MGS5.
With a 3 year dev circle, i have very high hopes right now. If it fails then ill be looking forward to Halo Wars 2 and Halo 6. It doesn't stop at 5.
Time will tell,
Halo 3 and Halo reach was a lot better than Halo 4 in every way. I'll wait and see first
i gotta disagree with you like alot of other people did, halo reach was ok but not great. only reason i owned it was because i bought the halo reach limited edition xbox 360.
Halo 3 was the most fun single player halo game I've ever played. The race at the end on the worthog was awesome *me and my bro raced each other in splitscreen* Reach was OK. Cannot believe there's no splitscreen this time but I'll wait and see how good it is. Halo 4 was much better than Reach IMO.
I agree crash, halo 2 and 3 were amazing, but halo 4 to me was easily the most forgettable in the series. I understand why everyone has their different tastes, but it doesn't change the feeling of disappointment I felt after finishing it. I hope halo 5 is awesome though, but from what I'm hearing it's even closer to cod now, so I'll wait and see before I say anything negative about it. War zone looks cool though.
Shocking there isn't a lot of competition for FPS this gen.
Halo, Battlefield (Star Wars), COD, Desinty, and TitanFall are really it so far. And honestly COD and BF aren't really standouts any more.
But what makes Halo push above the others is the sheer amount of game modes, forge, and an actually good squad campaign.
I'm not a fan of Halo at all really, but out of what we have across all consoles, it does the most to push the genre forward, and I can at least respect that.
Call of Duty begins to stand out against the rest when you look at what you're getting for your money, when compared to Starwars Battlefront and Rainbow Six Siege.
Both Halo5 and Black Ops 3 are bucking the trend that Ubisoft and EA are trying to push onto gamers with the multiplayer-only model. I will admit that Titanfall was and is an amazing game, but it could have been so much better with a great single player campaign.
To me Halo 5 looks like any other Halo and it looks no better than any other shooter IMO. I'm not being negative I'm not buying hype for any game anymore if a game is great it will stand on its on. Microsoft has a bad habit and gets out in front of every exclusive with massive hype. Take TitanFall for example it IMO was hyped more than any other game in gaming history and sadly for Respawn and Microsoft it was released and no one has talked about it since. Take Forza 6 as another example it to had massive hype as the greatest car/ racer ever! But since release no one has talked about it and I doubt anyone will and I doubt it's selling any better than the last 2 Forza titles which was nothing to talk about. When Halo 5 releases and it carries the post release hype that Halo 2 had and does for Microsoft what Halo 2 for Xbox then we can talk about it being the best Halo made. .....not likely to happen. Imo
And you forget Wolfenstein, Fallout 4, Thief, Killzone, Destiny and R6. There's plenty FPS games on the market, I find there are more FPS games then anything else :)
@Azzanation
Fallout is a WRPG, Thief is a First Adventure, and I did list Destiny.
Rainbow Six isn't in the same type / league as these games, especially with no campaign or the scale of multiplayer Halo, COD, or Battlefield has. Early last-gen Yes, but its been YEARS since we had a Rainbow Six, and while this one looks fun, it's not the Huge AAA FPS that Halo, COD, Battlefield, or even Destiny are.
Wolfenstein doesn't have the level of multiplayer to compete here (some don't have it at all).
Killzone is the closest of those games at this level, and while I enjoy Killzone, it's not quite up to par, because there's always some minor issues holding it back. KZ2's quality was up here. KZ3 was too much like COD, although the campaign was good. ShadowFall was a launch title with great ideas, and improvements, but the single player was lackluster, and it was a bit rushed overall (multiplayer is fun).
There aren't nearly the amount of FPS this gen as there were last gen. The quality ones stayed and thrived, all the other games fell off and died.
I've played a lot of shooters and am a huge fan of the genre, but Halo 5 looks to be the very best shooter I've ever seen to date.
@Placebohed
TitanFall was hardly the first game to use a jump or double jumps or even wall running and other games such as Call of Duty and Destiny that use jumps, double jumps and triple jumps has nothing at all to do with TitanFall.
very good when sony and ms competes for our dollars we as gamers win. so competition is a very healthy thing
I think people are getting a bit carried away with themselves halo isnt the brand it once was and apart from remastering bungie's games ,343 have ONLY MADE 1 GAME halo 4 which the online community died only after only 2 months
Good to know. The 2016 line up looks really good (Recore, Scalebound, QB, SOT...). I hope MS keeps investing in new AAA ips through out this gen also san't wait to play Halo 5. The campaign and warzone look very interesting.
I can't wait for Halo 5 but I think I am most excited to see how the new IP you listed turn out.
More new ips for 2016 announced as well. As usual, hopefully E3 of 2016 impresses.
Scalebound and Sea of Thieves are going to eat away a lot of my time at the end of 2016... Next to Gears 4 of course.
Having a hard time understanding why people are disagreeing with you.
The biggest issue I had with MS last gen was their reliance on the same handful of games. The fact that they're focused on new titles should be exciting for all gamers....
In my honest opinion if they offer in 2016 the following
QuantumBreak
Scalebound
Recore
Crackdown 3
Forza Horzon 3
Gears of War 4
Halo Wars
Project Knoxville
Sea of Thieves
Add in
Cuphead
Tacoma
The Solus Project
ION
DayZ
Ashen
Superhot
So happy Few
Bloodstain
You add in
DLC support for Halo 5, Forza, TombRaider
Plus if Fable is released and Gigantic in 2016 instead of 2015
They are going to have an Epic year. Its going to be tuff for any competitor to top what MS has too offer. This is just my opinion.
Cuphead Recore (maybe) and Scalebound are the only games that interest me ,but that is just me-
@Prpfessor_K
It's because fanboys are running around here. My comment was a direct response to MichaelLito79 list, yet mine was marked for off topic and his still sits there.
@magiciandude
I think most of them are definitely coming, as a matter of fact I suspect all of them to come, because most of the games announced so far (the first 2 parts) are 2nd and 3rd party exclusives, so it's not spreading Sony thin. The only questionable ones at this point are the secret games we still no nothing about from Sony's first parties.
@gangsta & chris
MichaelLito79 listed their 2016 line-up and says, and I quote
"Its going to be tuff for any competitor to top what MS has too offer. This is just my opinion."
Which is exactly why I listed the PS4 games to show they too have a great line-up IMO, and why i said, AND I QUOTE
"Both consoles have great line-ups and I'm happy to see 2016 for XBO filled with NEW IP's, but this PS list is just ridiculous."
If anyone has an insecurity Red it's you and your lack of intelligence or at the very least Reading Comprehension. If both of you had actually read what I wrote and not just gazed over Uncharted 4 and instantly claimed PS fan list, you could have just went along about your business instead of wasting your bubble commenting to someone who cares less about what either of you have to say. But more importantly you would have realized this was a discussion about line-up's and not someone simply listing PS games for the sake of it, and saved yourself from posting these ignorant / pointless comments (ignorant Red / pointless Chris). But you can't expect much from the simple-minded fanboy now can you.
Good to hear. XBOX is beginning to gain momentum and Halo 5 like Forza 6, no doubt will be one of the best in its genre. Day 1!
Im no xbox fan but i have to say that halo 5 looks to be impressive.. Im not buying the system just yet though.. I want to see what else they have up their sleeves.. When they get desperate, we as gamers get great games.. I already want rare replay and Killer Instinct but im still not buying until i see at least 5-10 games i want for it.. Plus it needs to be smaller and cheaper... I can always buy it when the next console generation comes around if need be.. PS4 & Wii U satisfy my gaming needs.. Plus i collect retro games as well so im used to playing the waiting game
5-10 games is quite a bit and waiting to buy it once the next generation hits is kind of strange. I mean why wait that long when there are deals every 4-6 months or so for that console; bundles fit here too. I actually bought my Xbox One after I watched all the e3 2015 press conferences. I was impressed with MS and what their vision is and since the day I bought the One I never looked back.
Cheaper I think isn't going to happen, at least for now, because it's not long enough in the generation cycle.
PS4 and Wii U may satisfy your needs but there's tons of people out there who buy the One along with those consoles and then make a decision on which one they would really stick with. I know 3 people off the top of my head who have all 3 and decided to make the One their go-to.
All I can say is to research it a bit, wait for a decent deal (there's many out there IMO), and focus on 1 or 2 games (could even be exclusives to make better judgement) that draw you in. Like Gran Turismo - try Forza 6. Like FPS' - try Halo 5 when it comes out. Like Uncharted and Infamous - try Sunset Overdrive and Tomb Raider.
You get the idea I'm making here and it is all food-for-thought.
I am waiting because I feel like they will drop the price and between my vita wiiu and ps4 with multiplats I have a ton of games i still need to play without all the new games coming out. Plus Fallout 4 will be out soon amd that will eat up months of my time. Also my taste and xbox arent the most compatible. That is just me though - But if my son wants to play halo sooner than later i may jump in earlier than planned
I know theyre going to have so many more updates and redesign the system so thats why ill be waiting before i buy it.. I really dont have time for it right now so it would be pointless to buy it.. I only have a few days off per week to play plus my GF gets jealous of my games too.. Ill get it but not until theres nothing to play on my other consoles and they slim it down to my liking.. 5-10 games isnt much to want from a console i think.. I have 16 or so for my wii u and i dont use it nearly as much as the ps4.
I know how you feel. weeks away now! forza 6 is keeping me busy along with some other stuff, but I need halo 5!
@PizzaSteve How is that an opinion when the game differs from CoD so much? TTK, map design, no classes, equal starts, weapon pickups, on field traits like Ovi/Invis, penalty to sprinting away from encounters, etc. Is it different than past Halos? Sure, but the soul of Halo 2 and 3 are there.
You said to Septic you know more about Halo and CoD when I guarantee I know more about how each game functions than you by tenfold.
@Steve can you go into detail? I'm curious how Halo 5 is copying COD?
If you will.
still waiting for his response i see. Advice: dont hold your breadth they usually never come back cos we all kno why he was here in the first place.
Copying CoD? Did you play H5 Beta?
CoD doesn't have Warzone experiences. No vehicles, No AI Bosses, No defending AI. I mean they spent 3 years working on Warzone. Don't discredit it.
Let me break this down for you.
AW had a vertical Ground Pound, Halo has a Skill shot Ground Pound.
Crysis 2 had Ground Pound and "Clamber" before CoD. So if Halo was copying anything it's Crysis by adding more Spartan Abilities. Slide/Clamber/Ground Pound... Crysis had Power Jump, Halo has Stabilizers and Thrusters.
Define a generation? Yes they will define a generation by balancing Casual(Warzone) and Competitive(Arena) PvP experiences. Shooters either focus on one or the other. CoD focuses on Casual gameplay and then just bans multiple things for the competitive players.
Arena playlists like Breakout play a lot more like CS. By introducing flag cap gameplay to resemble Objective vs Elimination strategies.
Kid you don't know what CoD is to the rest of Shooters... Only reason CoD has a competitive scene is the massive prizes Activision put up. Now Halo has that and you will notice a massive shift.
I doubt it will define a generation but what else shold he say about a Flagship title?
As for copying CoD, CoD has been copying everyone else for about 3 years.
Just because thats your opinion doesn't mean it can't be an ignorant one. Ignorance just means you don't know any better.
Halo 5 is nothing like CoD. The more you know about Halo 5 the less ignorant you'll be about the similarities and differences.
I think I understand where you're coming from. The first thing I thought when I played the beta was, "oh wow, a left trigger aiming mechanic...slightly CoDish, IMO". It's easy to spot it, as previous Halo games didn't have it, but really, that's where the similarities end. The core Halo "vibe" was definitely present, but with the added functionality of a trigger aim mechanic, which really has become the standard in all shooters nowadays, I think this will be the best Halo yet.
I'm glad that fans of Halo are getting more. But I'm so sick and tired of Halo,Gears of War and Forza.
That is all I think when I see or hear Xbox.
The XBO need new exclusive and exciting IP's. Take chances and deliver unique experiences.
Uncharted, god of war, Jak and daxter, GT, Infamous, Bloodborne/demon souls, The last of us, Until dawn, Killzone, Resistance and more..
Atleast the PS4 has so many more interesting exclusive titles going for it. Just look at UntilDawn.
Yeah it's not for everyone. But that's the point. There are exclusive and different games on the system. Xbox is just going for the same old Halo,Forza,Gears hype over and over.
Yakuza, Street Fighter, Dead Nation, Gravity Rush, Motorstorm, Patapon, Rachet and Clank, Sing Star, Warhawk/Starhawk, Tearaway, Twisted Metal, Wipeout, ICO/SOTC/Last Guardian, LBP, MBL, PS All Stars and more...
"Atleast the PS4 has so many more interesting exclusive titles going for it. Just look at UntilDawn."
More interesting to who? you? infamous, KZ, the order and DC have all been duds, mate. You show your own fanboy ass, when you try to trump the medicocrity of the PS exclusive line up so far...theres bloodborne and what else...tearaway?...not much else looks interesting on PS4.
You may not like halo, but its considrered the best shooter for a reason...
You may not like forza but its considered the best racer in sim or arcade guise...for a good reason...
Same applies to gears...you can yap on all you want about UC, but gears MP metrics destroy UC...gears alone has logged bilions of hours of playtime, from millions os users..nuff said..
And as for the new IP thing...SSOD, ryse, Ori, Sea of theives, scalebound,
@ Flex
Halo's quality has been in decline for years. The Halo 4 online multiplayer rapid decline in player population proves this, and 343i and MS's sad attempts with the broken MCC doesn't provide much confidence either. http://www.neogaf.com/forum...
If you think Gears 4 looks better than Uncharted 4 then you're mad, and that's even without regarding multiplayer. Gears 4 looks so mediocre, and I'm not kidding. What do MP metrics matter when Uncharted is better than Gears of War?
Forza you can have because Polyphony is a slow working studio, and have not has as many high-rated games in recent years.
However, some of the same games you call "duds" on the PS4 side have pretty much equal or higher Metascores than the games you list - Ryse and SSO.
Ultimately, PS4 has a greater number of games, a more diverse lineup of games and a better rated lineup of games. 2016 is no competition. Keep your loose opinions to yourself.
Your not gonna play them anyway since I doubt you own an Xbox with all your comments being anti Xbox so your credibility is very low, there's plenty of new IPS coming out this year and next year.
Well the Japanese developed titles shouldn't account if their logic to PS4 developed ones apply, but then again they're idiots.
They count, he just chooses to deny them and act like they don't exist like most do here.
Cuphead is a timed exclusive & it's also launching on PC. Looks great but not a first party MS IP. All 3 of the other ip's will be owned by MS but the studios attached to them do not, which may not be important in terms of measuring a single games potential, but it is important in judging the future of potential franchises. I'm glad that MS has been working to bring new IPs onto the market but I'm still wishing they would start investing in creating more first party studios to go along with them.
So lets ignore MS new ip's for next year. I love how ppl intentionally choose to overlook the new ip's on Xbox every single time. You can ignore, deny whatever it is yall choose to do but they're there, and are coming, and no amount of denial can stop that.
MS consistently seems to stem up until next holiday.
I'm all for anticipation and measuring the potential for the future, but those games need to be released before they can be considered quality. The only first party new IP that MS has released so far this gen is Ori...maybe I'm missing something, but SSOD is owned by Insomniac, Ryse by Crytek. Sony has released at least 3 first party new IPs this year alone in Bloodborne, Until Dawn & The Order.
the truth is the reason why playstion fans choose to over look xbox line up is simply because the xbox is the first real competition that playstation has had since 1994. the saturn 3do n64, atari jag etc couldnt stand up to playstation, the game cube and dreamcast couldnt stand up to ps2, the original xbox was a power house and could do stuff the ps2 couldnt, the xbox 360 even tho it had a huge failure rate managed to keep ps3 on its toes and sell just as many consoles and now xbox one the apparently weaker system of the 2 seems to keep on delivering quality games and services even after a shaky reveal bk in 2013.
@JB So who gives a crap where the games are coming from. Please don't start this game of "is it 1st party or 2nd party"
At the end of the day nobody cares and it doesn't matter.
I will always see Halo when I look at Xbox. But beyond that there were a lot of gems on my Original Xbox that I always see.
Phil will deliver them one by one as the years go on. So I'm just going to sit back and let them come XD.
Agree. I tire of the combo. Though I'm fine with Forza as its a static IP, I feel they need to limit the number of Halo and Gears releases as I don't think its wise to turn it into a bi years series. I'd rather they make 2 Halos, 2 Gears and then have those same teams do 2 new IPs.
We really don't need 4 Halos, 4 Gears etc. That is just getting so tiring its not even funny. MS seems extremely reluctant to actually back a new IP long term as all their support for long term has gone to established IPs.
Mind you...Bungie was doing Destiny at MS... they need to let their teams be creative and give them the space to make new titles and ideas vs seeking the safety of Halo Gears etc.
I say, pass the series on to another team or limit its releases. They are basically saying this systems if for Halo, Gears users. They need to show that this system is for Halo, Gears, 343 new IP, Coalition new IP (as to question where the hell that AAA FPS even is anymore as I'm hoping its not canned but its likely it might have been in favor of Gears 4).
I'm sorry but fans are not that gullible as to just believe MS has turned a new leaf due to some new IPs....new ones they don't own or by teams they don't own or by side teams etc.
I'll be assuring of them making a push for new STRONG IPs when 343 and there other main teams are making new IPs that are getting backed like Halo, Gears etc.
Lets not forget...MS always has lots of new things at the start of a generation....lets see how far they go before starting to break out the champagne. MS has traditionally brought out many new ips at the start, leave them behind for the rest of the gen, do some timed games near the beginning then bank on Halo, Gears, Forza combo as I believe many, many gamers can easily predict MS next few years.
I would actually like to be wrong on that prediction too as that only helps gamers, I don't hate Halo or Gears, but I don't think we need 4 of em every damn gen.
"I say, pass the series on to another team or limit its releases. "
Do.you even know anything about Halo or 343? You do realise they were set up purely for Halo right?
And you may be tired if Halo, but fans love the series. Its not like its a stagnant franchise like Killzone. Halo has an identity and has consistently performed well. If it has ever fallen short, it has done so due to its own lofty standards. The same goes with Forza.
On the Sony side we're seeing Uncharted 4, Infamous Second Son, Killzone Shadowfall, but somehow those are okay?
Don't buy an xbox if you don't like or care for Halo, Gears and Forza (even though there are other games on the horizon but you've so quickly mentioned in the past how you'd love to get them on PC). That's like me crying about getting a PS4 and moaning about Uncharted. God of War, Infamous and Killzone.
@Sep- "You do realise they were set up purely for Halo right?"
Very much so, that was sorta the point, is that the team is made for just 1 IP as if they have nothing to do but just that 1 IP...sorta gets old bud. Mind you...again no on is saying don't do Halo, merely have 343 do another IP. There is a reason why many, many teams left MS over the years. ie Bungie.
"On the Sony side we're seeing Uncharted 4, Infamous Second Son, Killzone Shadowfall, but somehow those are okay?"
??? LMFAO! Such a bad example, it only furthers my point even more.
Naughty Dog also did The Last Of Us and the gen prior did NOT do Uncharted or The Last Of Us, they did Jak and Daxter and they are also working on a new IP..
Guerrilla games did Killzone yes...they are doing Horizon now and the other half of their team is doing R.I.Gs...
Sucker Punch did Sly during the PS2 gen, did InFamous this gen and last and are currently making a new IP..
I mean...your saying, don't do anything new 343, just do more Halo? Mind you...I'm merely saying...do BOTH! lol sooo MORE milking is better? So we are going to end the gen with what, 16 Halo titles? LMFAO! Seriously bud...if that isn't milking to death I don't know what is. Regardless of the quality of the Killzone series...at least Sony is giving the team room to make something new vs (They are the killzone series, 4 Killzone games a gen FOR LIFE BRO lol)
"Don't buy an xbox if you don't like or care for Halo, Gears and Forza" LOL! YES Buddy..can you not prove my point any further? That is why they are losing.. YET AGAIN they are not bringing in new gamers, they are bring in the old XB fans, thus not growing.
You didn't play Uncharted or The Last Of Us or InFamous etc during PS2's gen bud, just like you didn't play Sly, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet during the PS1 gen.
You didn't play Horizon last gen either, or Dreams, or The Order or Driveclub etc, they are always making new IPs as to not SOLELY keep gamers thinking the system is only for IP ABC etc. That might be why MS is losing for a 3rd gen...
Soooo you did a great job proving my point. XB lost 3 gens in a row (as they have no hope of winning this gen).
....clearly someone's method is working out a bit better then the others don't you think?
So...Sony's is home to new series every gen, MS is home of Gears, Halo combo etc? Its hard to cry about a series bud by a publisher known to cycle out series with teams every gen. As to why Horizon exist, as to why Naughty Dog is making a new ip, as to why Sucker Punch is making a new IP, as to why Sony bend is making a new IP as to why Media Molecule is making a new IP as to why Quantic Dreams is making a new IP..
Yet MS has 2 teams made up solely to make ONLY Halo and Gears? LMFAO! I mean...has their milking helped them ever sell better then Sony in a gen?
Youre really struggling to understand the very basic point here (which is a trend I've noticed) :
343 are set up SOLELY for Halo. That's it. That's their job. No I don't want their focus scattered everywhere.
You say milking; these games are consistently of great quality so what's the problem?
Once again to reiterate ; 343 are solely setup for Halo.
As for variety ; look at Recore, Quantum Break, Sea of Thieves, Scalebound, Cuphead and others. Why on earth are you obsessed about which studio makes what?
You forcing yourself to add 'lol's and lmfao' doesn't help put your point across you know that right? ND still made 3 Uncharted games last gen and a fourth one now. Sony still started this gen with Killzone and Infamous.
'lol'....
@Sep- "343 are set up SOLELY for Halo. That's it. That's their job. No I don't want their focus scattered everywhere"
lol...yes, keep on milking then? Thats again the point bud, they are set up to do 1 IP for life. This is very telling and even Coalition likely cancelling a new ip merely to do more Gears very much tells consumers MS is not in support of new IPs.
"look at Recore, Quantum Break, Sea of Thieves, Scalebound, Cuphead and others. Why on earth are you obsessed about which studio makes what?"
Yes...look at an IP by a team they don't own, an Ip by a team they don't own and an IP by a team they don't own...
I mean...that support is questionable as Demon Souls got 1 entry, thus..no one is singing hopes of Bloodborne to be a series thing, Sony owns the IP yes, they don't own the team and the team is planning clearly Dark Souls titles.
MS support of those IPs are LIGHT! They are not main teams, they won't likely even get sequels as you can't even guarantee the team committing to staying under them to do it ie where is KI's old developer? Do MS own the Sun Set Overdrive IP? ...questionable
"You forcing yourself to add 'lol's and lmfao' doesn't help put your point"
You going off topic doesn't really help yours, as it seems you realized just how much your post is actually assisting in very much proving just how much MS doesn't support new concepts like they do established like Halo, Gears etc.
Your examples are legit icing on the cake.
"ND still made 3 Uncharted games last gen and a fourth one now. Sony still started this gen with Killzone and Infamous"
Thanks bud! Naughty Dog also made a new ip with The Last Of Us...Naughty Dog is also working on a new IP right now, uncharted 4 is called "Thief's End" likely because they are moving on to The Last Of Us 2 and their new IP..
Sucker Punch is also working on a new IP, they also didn't do the IP last gen...that they did the gen prior.. I mean...how many examples do you need of main Sony teams making new series every gen? Or did my lolz distract you and have you unable to give an example of anything like MS milking?
Sony still has Horizon in development ,R.I.Gs in development by the same team...sooo that argument is not only getting weak, its lending very much to my own point that they create series every gen as to why your having so much trouble finding an example that is like Halo or Gears from that publisher. They only do static IPs every gen ie MLB The Show, GT etc other then that, its a brand new slate for them every gen.
I mean...your clearly trying your best, but your trying to win by force, not by logic. Sony cycles new series ever gen with their main teams, MS doesn't. as to why they even have a damn Halo team and a Coalition team JUST FOR GEARS AND ONLY GEARS!
I mean...didn't you realize how many times you where proving my point when you kept bringing up 343 is just made JUST for Halo? I mean...of course it is, they have no need for their main teams to do anything other then what they did last gen, I mean....they are not Sony, they don't do new series every single gen to replace other series that much we know.
343i was specifically set up to handle Halo.
It's even in the studio's name.
MS has other studios that develop various games and IP.
Are you going to bash Polyphony Digital for only doing nothing but Gran Turismo games?
Lmao. Your complaining 343i are only making halo games and then go on to complain about how unreleased ips aren't going to get sequels.
You must really hate Nintendo with mario
LOL, You do know Microsoft Studios does actually have more studios than 343i and The Coalition right?. Such as Turn 10(Forza) Lionhead (Fable, New IP) Rare ( Sea of thieves) and some smaller ones I won't bother to mention as they haven't released anything big aside from Mojang (Minecraft). Microsoft Studios has also had solid 2nd Party partnerships with Playground games(Forza Horizon) Certain Affinity( Halo DLC and MCC) Saber Interactive ( Halo MCC) Remedy Entertainment (Alan Wake and Quantum Break) Platinum Games( Scalebound). Although Microsoft doesn't own the Developers that make these games they do own the IP so it's still in some way a first party game. Yes at the end of the day Halo , Gears and Forza will still be the juggernauts that Microsoft will advertise the shit out of, but there will always smaller titles being released which are still impressive, and because there is a lot of Halos doesn't mean it's getting "milked" , when something is being "milked" it's usually being released every single year and the quality of the game gets worse. This Halo has been in development for 3 years and they have added more content than ever and want to support the game post launch with free DLC, In my opinion and I know it will differ from a lot of other people. I think 343i is doing much more for the Halo franchise than Bungie ever did.
And all i think of when i hear or see playstation is gran turismo, god of war and uncharted but i still know there are other games on ps yet people will for some reason ignore the other games that are also on xbox
Since when did Killer Instinct, Fable, the Max series or Crackdown = "Halo, Forza, Gears"?
Are Scalebound, Ori and the Blind Forest, Kalimba, Project: Knoxville, ReCore, Sea of Thieves and Quantum Break not new IP's?
Are they not "taking chances" on those games?
You are sick of hearing about Xbox main exclusives, yet you are hear, Why?
When people think PS they surely don't think UD. That just released and is surely not a household name. Ryse is way more familiar, yet no one is touting that. Both systems have their exclusives, don't come here trolling about being sick of M$ big franchises. If we wanted your Uncharted collection or UD we would just buy a PS4. You go play those and stop being a child.
Sony's entertainment boss seems to disagree with you:
http://www.ign.com/articles...
And what makes you say "2016 is no competition" when Xbox for 2016 has:
Recore
Gears of War 4
Halo Wars 2
Sea of Thieves
Quantum Break
Crackdown 3
Cuphead
Scalebound

...among others?
"Keep your loose opinions to yourself."
Seems you didn't follow your own advice.
Yes Lord Phil it shall be glorious.
The quality of halo 5 has been noticed.
It is setting the bar again.
New IP's are great but I would love some sequels of some old favorites updated for this new gen.
Perfect Dark, Mech Warrior and Lost Odyssey needs to happen.
But it is good to know that MS is focusing on new IP's.
They are sleeping on Perfect Dark lol.
What weird is I always thought MS would make that into a huge series as Perfect Dark and also Conker just go so well with the MS brand. As to why they didn't continue that, beyond me but I think its due time for a revival! I really think that series given the proper team, marketing can be a huge series for MS.
It really makes no sense what so ever.
Perfect Dark has a great backstory and lore to it that could be explored even more so than Halo.
PD on the N64 and even Zero (at that time) were great games.
I can only hope and assume that MS has big plans for that series. IMO Joanna Dark has the potential to be a strong female lead as big as Lara Croft if done right.
Conker...smh...why MS isn't at least trying to bring back this guy is just beyond absurd. Does MS think there's no audience for that character for Xbox? Conker and Banjo could be MS's answer to Nintendo's dominant platforming games.
@Gangsta- 100% agreed! I've always seen Perfect Dark as that one series that they can do that hits all the AAA marks, graphics, story, multiplayer as Perfect Dark was a huge AAA IP on N64, though I liked 007 better, Perfect Dark has more lore, has more legs and has a real future as an established IP.
Though I know Rare did it years ago, I would rather 343 do a Perfect Dark game with all their FPS knowledge and really give it a respectable reboot.
Conker also could get a sequel that is as over the top and violent as the first. Conker as an amazing platformer, but lots of its great gameplay came with all those crazy spoof sequences so they can don't have to rest on seeking for it to be a hardcore platformer as I feel it can do amazing without even being that. I feel XB brand can build a audience with something like Conker of MS just give it a chance, I never thought I would see the day where Nintendo published a game like Conker and MS didn't continue the series.
I mean sure its not big now, but given time it can be, i also don't even think they would need to brake the bank to get it done, what made Conker so good was just how funny it was and all the crazy levels, so graphics, deep plot, skill tree etc don't need to be in the game as its just not the focus of the series.
If they reboot either of those 2, I think they will be fine.
If I was running MS, we would have had a Conker 2 on 360! lol
I still like the idea of reintroducing PD as a third-person, sci-fi action adventure series. Tomb Raider meets Blade Runner.
Yes, I was going to reply to Edmix the same feeling. Instead of it being a FPS I would rather the game focus more on the espionage/conspiracy aspect the first two games had in it with a strong emphasis on high tech gadgetry.
In my opinion the market is pretty saturated with FPS games and adding another like PD just seems like overkill.
I would rather have PD be a sci-fi thriller with action of course, but be more like MGS meets Blade Runner with the look of the Fifth Element.
I love sequels of great games. That way I have a good idea that I'll likely be getting some more of that great gameplay I enjoyed. Loots of gamers are like that, that's you sequels usually out sell new IP by a large margin.
Having said that, even though new IP's are a great risk, they need to keep good ideas and directions coming to keep things moving forward.
In other word: we need both. If they just focus on new IP, they will loose loyal fans.
@Shott and Gangster- Agreed. Because the series is about Joanna Dark and its clearly of her name sake, it lends to focus on the character and I feel TPS suits that best.
What Perfect Dark is, is not really like much games that are currently out and I feel they could add a Alias vibe to the game if done correctly.
Its not like a military shooter, nothing about aliens its very much its own thing. If they reboot Perfect Dark correctly, it very much could be one of MS biggest franchise if they give it a chance. Its old enough that I don't feel what it was prior will have a negative impact on consumers as I feel its a good enough time to where folks won't have an assumption of what they think the game is or should be.
So many possibilities with some old IPs MS has.
That's a bold statement.. A generation? The best games on the previous generation were in its last months so.. I dunno.
Best games of last gen in last months? Maybe like 2 out of a ton that launched in Years 2-4 with a smattering afterwards.
Gears, Uncharted, Bioshock, Mass Effect, etc all came out first half of the last generation which were what truly defined last Generation. Even most of the sequels came out years before this Gen started. Not knocking what came out later (TLOU for example was one of the best late last gen titles) but the first half is what really nailed it repeatedly and back to back.
Those denying the validity of X1 Exclusives are denying gaming in general...
I must say this has been an incredible week for the Multiplatform Gamer. /
I want to see the story since I played all of them with my son, but no split screen is disappointing. Can we play co op campaign if we go buy 2 X1s ? Not excited about that option because I wont play more than a few games on it but I may do it anyway.
I can't wait to see what other new IP's they have up their sleeve. Sunset Overdrive, Recore, Quantum Break and Sea of Thieves are all a good start. I do hope they go back to sports and give us a new basketball, tennis and golf game. The golf games that have released on next gen so far haven't been good.
"Define A Generation" LOL I dont think so, not much more then another entry in a pretty stale franchise being handled by a developer that doesn't have the same talent the original dev did. I get it, its xbox's premiere game, the only one that matters apparently but the fanbase puts far to much faith in it and should temper their expectations. The game will probably be fine but define a generation? not even close.
The funny thing is I don't think anyone actually read the article.
They are talking that "Halo defines a generation" not that "Halo will define a generation" as the title reads. They are talking about the people's views on Halo, not defining a console generation.
MS has said in the past that Halo is the "Star Wars" of the 2000's... It is hard to argue with that. Name a media ip that competes with Halo as a space IP since 2000? I know a lot of people that were young when Halo first started making waves, and those people today look at Halo like I look at Star Wars (grew up in the late 70's / early 80's).
Sales wise it is hard to argue. Halo is the best selling exclusive on any platform. And game merchandising wise, the only game that comes close is Call of Duty. To me, though Halo would need a full length, AAA movie to truly define the generation.
Typical Microsoft arrogance to compare Halo to Star Wars on any level, which it doesn't even come close, Microsoft may wish Halo was on the same level as the Star Wars franchise but that's all it is, wishful thinking.
If it is dead why do new installments of the main story sell around 8 million copies?
I guess there are a lot of dead games out there as even multiplatform games have a hard time selling that much.
Halo 5 is going to be MASSIVE loving the marketing they've been doing for this game, best FPS to hit consoles in years
I dont like anything M$ has done for the past 5yrs so they lost my trust. The exclusives they get do not interest me for the most part.. There are a few exceptions like rare replay, Killer Instinct, and Scalebound but im not buying the system until i see more games i personally want.. Halo 5 looks really good but im not into halo anymore nor do i care for sport games, shooter, or racing.. Im not saying the system sucks but everyone has their own taste in games..
Seriously though, why do fanboys have to report comments that arent even trolling anyone? Theyre just debating not trolling.. Trolling would be to say negative things or make fun of a certain console not debate it.. I see so many people reporting stuff for no reason other than a disagree.. Some people do troll but a lot is just a debate.. Everyone has their own opinion but really why the heck do people take it to the heart and get mad?
