Liam Robertson from Unseen64 has revealed on a recent podcast that he is under the impression that Retro Studios could be hard at work on an original IP that they proposed to Nintendo. We know that they finished work on Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze back in late 2013 and have since been pitching projects to Nintendo. The new game was apparently green-lit by NCL in 2014.
Company skipped last year's event.
Not surprising at all.
I mean, they´ll be releasing a new console in a few weeks.
Nintendo has announced its financial results for the full fiscal year, alongside an update to Nintendo Switch shipments and more data, including a prediction for Switch 2 hardware and software.
well, the switch 2 has two holidays in the us, thanksgiving and Christmas.
so id say its fairly possible. the rest of the world will also grab them
Switch and Switch are a different kettle of fish. A sell out at launch by the diehards, strong sales, then the non diehards will be put off by the £75 ($99) games, including the stupid download cards which are topping £65 ($85). Not rocket science to work out how the Switch 2 is going to pan out. The PS5 has sold well, but games at £70, sales have been low. As game sales drop, prices will rise. Sony could knock out all their games for £40 and still make a killing selling more games. There's no denying that a gaming crash is looming.
Not paying for something that's not worth more than the price it was advertised, which is $449 - $499.
Nintendo Switch 2 upgrades portability with a bigger screen, 1080p handheld play, and Wi-Fi 6. Here's why it still matters in 2025.
As someone who travels for work I still care about portable systems.
I have found using remote play in a hotel room is an excellent experience in a major city as I've got my console hard wired to a gigabit connection at home however it's not perfect if power trips the console tends to go to the repair section and can't be booted remotely so it's a annoying call to family to power it on for me.
A hotel out of town or regionally though that can cause havok for remote play as I'm always on 5g using it hotel wifi is never good enough for a solid remote play session.
But leaving a stable location and getting onto a plane or train and there's little to no chance of a good experience with remote play thats where something like the switch 2 will really shine for me personally long haul flights are exhausting and one of my most hated things the switch has been invaluable for me and I'll absolutely be upgrading
Nintendo has always done it the best, handheld is in their genes. I do wish their dock could be like an egpu though and it make it much more powerful, it's a bit harder for me to play portable now for some odd reason, love just sitting on the couch with a big screen and controller. And ofc always great to have the portable option and for me it's best for smaller games.
because aside from Nintendo's own games which have their dedicated fanbase, portability is the only other thing it has going for it. Nintendo will be eliminated faster than xbox if they ever decide to do a dedicated home console again. going the hybrid way is the only way left for them and they are lucky they dominated the portable market all those years ago. imagine the power of the Switch 2 as a console this day and age with the same price as PS5. they will be the laughing stock of the market.
Well thats cool, I hope its not another side scroller. If Retro isnt working on a new Metroid then some other studio better be or some people at Nintendo need to get fired.
Awesome, Nintendo needs more Western-flavored IPs.
What a terrible idea, they would have to completely change the name of the company...
its to bad Retro will never take a real crack at the wii u, all we got was a 2d donkey kong that didnt push wii u but whatever there working on will be moved to NX soooo
As long as they leave Donkey Kong alone, I'm happy. The new ones can never compare to the original DKC trilogy (not even DKL, IMO). I wouldn't mind another Metroid from them, but honestly it's time for a return to 2D for Metroid and another company would be better suited for the job at this point for the sake of innovation.
A new IP sounds like it could work but really I'd rather them take another shot at bringing back old IP like they did with Donkey Kong Country (even though I didn't like it as much I can appreciate the effort).
I suggest giving them a shot at F-Zero or Earthbound (spin-off might work better), something that's been absent for a while, but maybe even better would be something more obscure like Hotel Dusk series. Heck, maybe one of Nintendo's Japanese exclusives like Yuyuki.
I think it's a waste to allow IP to rot. Looking at you, Capcom and Konami.
