Fortunately for us, the NBA enjoys making as much money as possible and has flat out declined this offer several times in the past. This was when Live was actually doing quite well for itself.
Actually, during the "If it's in the game, it's in the game" days of EA (the 90's), Live was a pretty big seller. EA sports franchises were running the chart based off of their history of sales dominance...even IF the competition was as good. They had brand recognition.
Such a shame EA lost NBA fans along time ago. Why not just focus on Fight Night fans including myself have been waiting since 09 for the next installment.
I remember back in the 90's and early 20's there were multiple sports titles to choose from. Now there's only one choice for most sports games. MLB the Show and NBA 2K earned it's way to top beating out the competition because they were the better games. Except for Madden which EA bought the NFL licence because NFL 2K was 10x better. Madden would probably be dead like NBA Live if NFL 2K was still around.
Yep. I remember when EA, 2K, 989 Sports, Activision, and Microsoft all had annual sports franchises. Competition bred innovation. Sure, some were more competitive than others. But, it was still a nice time for choices. Part of this change has been natural selection at it's best. The strongest survived, while the weak died off. Part has been a downturn in the amount of people who play sports games. The last part, though, is all about eliminating competition by acquisition of exclusive licensing. There was such obvious collusion between EA and the NFL during that so-called auction it was ridiculous. (there were memos and emails to prove it, but that was at a junction where 2K was in financial difficulties and were almost acquired)
@Savsky...well sports games in the 90's and early 2000's were way more prevalent than they are today. There aren't even as many sports titles to play as there were then. I'm not being down on them as I play them as well. But, they were more mainstream then than they are now.
Yea there were so many. Like you said, "the strongest survived, while the weak died off" is what happened. I'm kind of glad it did too because we don't need annual release of bad games like NBA Live. I know competition is good but if the other side isn't gonna put up a serious fight to earn their spot then let there only be one winner.
*sigh* if only we could have a FIFA 2k[insert year] I'm pretty sure it would rape ea fifa's sales as well and probably be a way better game in the process.
Lol EA
It's actually 1.1 million to 8.3 thousand.
That's what you call a blow out.
As long as they have the NFL license, EA deserves these poor sales against NBA2k.
Up next, EA buys the NBA license.
LOL
But quality-wise, is there no match at all? Is LIVE really THAT bad?
