Agreed, but the idea is these are songs that are well-known, appeal to a variety of tastes, and fit the game engine well. Essentially, songs that can bring hesitant Rock Band-ers in.
I'm a big fan of having all my old DLC available to me. The in game setlist is small, so having dozens of other songs available from the get go is great. It'll be even better when the license from the old games releases, which would unlock another couple hundred songs.
