The Witcher 3 patch 1.10 gives PS4 the boost it's been waiting for

DF writes "This is the big one for The Witcher 3. Measuring in at 15GB on console, update 1.10 arrives with an essay's worth of patch notes - easily the biggest to date from CD Projekt Red. Among its 600 plus entries, we're mostly looking at bug fixes and gameplay tune-ups, and curiously no performance boosts are noted at all for PlayStation 4 or Xbox One."

the patch also takes armor and equipment!! I lost my set of wolf armor and my zerkannian saddle bags. I rebought the saddle bags but this type of thing shouldn't happen.

thekhurg3110d ago

Only takes away DLC stuff in NG+ and this happened for all platforms.

CDPR is aware of the issue and working on a hotfix. Personally, this patch should have never gone live as taking 1 minute to load up a single NG+ during testing would have shown that all of the DLC content got erased for NG+ in patch 1.10.

KOIMOJO3110d ago

Lost my Wolven armor as well. But oh well i'll wait for a patch. This type of open world game has a lot going on and these kinds of things are what you have to deal with.

outsider16243110d ago

what i want to know is can you get back the Wolf gear through those quests again? or you just lose it forever

nucky643110d ago

I'm not sure - I've been playing the HoS expansion and haven't checked that out yet.

DragoonsScaleLegends3110d ago

It went from a smooth cinematic 20fps to a horrible eye straining 26fps. Why did people waste money on this unfinished game again or does sex sell games that easily?

UnHoly_One3110d ago

I'm not sure what CoD has to do with complaining about a broken mess of a game.

This game has been terrible on both consoles since day one but everyone is too concerned about it being "huge", "open world", and "pretty" that they are giving it a pass on being a buggy and unoptimized mess.

Black0ut3111d ago

Good news for PS4. Disappointing about the lack of improvements on the X1 but not to worry.

I look forward to getting into this game for myself. Only heard positives about it so far!

gfk3423110d ago (Edited 3110d ago )

Yes, with the 1.10 patch Witcher 3 is another game for the PS4 with better resolution AND better frame rate than the X1 counterpart.

I have always known that the PS4 version will receive the TLC that X1 already benefited (due to MS marketing deal).

Now, it is time for me to buy the game for my PS4 and enjoy the masterpiece.

gfk3423110d ago

For those who disagree, according to DF:

"As for PS4, this is the first patch where the platform is so consistently ahead of Xbox One in performance terms".

" It's a lead that holds across all scenes on PS4, a version that already benefits from a 1080p resolution, compared to Xbox One's dynamic setup (resolving typically at 900p)".

i3eyond the Circle3110d ago

Lol and it only took how long?

Enough with the pettiness. Most Xbox One and RPGs players have finished Witcher and are gearing up for Fallout.

But alas congratulations on the 50% noticeable difference that you've finally got patched into your mind by some patch notes.

@dantesparda

Bravo on having the game you should have had at launch 6 months post launch. God knows how great the XBox One version would be given the same post release attention but kudos to you for feeling like you've won something.

PS4 already had the best version of the two on release.

Instead of decreasing, the gap only grows bigger.

PS4: Better exclusives and better third party support.

UnwanteDreamz3110d ago

Look at all the salty Xbox fans, too emotional about consoles.

parentsbasement3110d ago (Edited 3110d ago )

now that you precious PS4 has been patched , how will you be able to play it with one hand ? I assume your other one is busy , do you shout "Xbox sucks! " when you complete ?

better news for the ps4 than the xbox one but it still shows how these new consoles are definitely not packing a big punch this generation. i'm not seeing that jump like we saw last generation going to hd. games are still struggling to even hit a steady 30fps and the xbox one struggles even more getting games to 1080p. uncharted 4 looks amazing, forza 6 look amazing but when you start getting into more open world games they just can't handle it.

gfk3423110d ago (Edited 3110d ago )

I remember that at the initial face off many people were demanding that the resolution on the PS4 to be dropped in order to achieve a better frame rate.

Well the 1.10 patch shows those people that are wrong and that the PS4 is more than capable of running 1080p games at a better frame rate than of the competitor (although the competitor game runs at a lower resolution than the PS4).

clouds53110d ago

Agreed, both of them are just not fast enough. I think this gen will be over more quickly.

AndrewLB3110d ago

The problem is that even when multiplatform games are running 1080p on these consoles, they are clearly dumbed down when compared to the PC version. Either lower quality shadows, textures, particle effects, LOD, or sometimes they use sneaky frame interpolation which renders the game at 960x1080i and blending every-other line to complete 1920x1080. A great example is Killzone.

Kakashi Hatake3110d ago

Dying Light also looks amazing and is open world.

I beat the game before any of the patches were released and it was a fantastic experience.. You will not be disappointed.. All the free DLC that came with it just adds more bang for your buck... I would have paid more than the standard $60 for it and thats pre patching.. Im going to start a new game plus now that its updated just to see how much better it is..

GreetingsfromCanada3111d ago

The Witcher 3 is the most broken games I've ever played, but I'll be damned if it isn't a good one.

Grap3110d ago

Broken game?
did we played the same game cause in my 200hours i only saw like 3 bugs.

GreetingsfromCanada3110d ago

Corrupted save files, 20 fps lock in the swamp, a handful of crashes, LOD failures in Novigrad, texturing and physics failures on NPCs to name a few.

KiwiViper853110d ago

Difficulty reset to "just the story", ruining my 300 hour "death march" play through and achievement...

RedDevils3110d ago

Never had any of those problems, I'm probably the lucky one lol

pivotplease3110d ago (Edited 3110d ago )

I've seen like a hundred bugs in 30 hours ranging from pop-in to frame drops to screen tears to getting stuck (Geralt and Roach) to glitchy animations to misregistering hits and misses during combat to menu lag. It's still a masterpiece though just like Skyrim was with all its bugs.

Edit: I just walked into a house and found an npc sitting inside his bookshelf lol. You could only see his head popping out the top beefing with me to get out of his house.

outsider16243110d ago

Same here..put in more than 200 hours, havnt experienced anything game breaking. well except for a few fps dips here and there.

Shouldve got a PC. Ran perfectly on my PC.

poor_cus_of_games3110d ago

Didn't on mine. I guess all pc's are not the same.

koolaid2513110d ago

I had a lot of frame rate issues myself on Ps4.

WellyUK3110d ago (Edited 3110d ago )

It's like Skyrim which was also buggy on launch but it didn't matter because the game was incredible anyway.

Play AC Unity and then you will see a broken game, even now. OR heck BF4 on launch that was a disaster.

kraenk123110d ago (Edited 3110d ago )

And I thought Canadians were sensible people. ;O) Just kidding. Never had any problems aside from little glitches and one quest which couldn't be completed. All in all negligable compared to the dimensions of Skyrim for example.

This game is a typical example of a broken game that people put up with nowadays. Let's all cheer that a 17gb patch has helped the frame rate slightly after many many months of patches to fix patches. How a game can get a review score so high with so many things wrong I don't know. I had to stop after I got the XP bug & then my saves went & the game use to freeze my PS4, I got rid months ago & now they bring out yet another massive patch, well sorry, I've moved on to other games thanks.

Gwiz3110d ago

This is exactly what i mean,he(she?) gets it.

outsider16243110d ago

Bought the game at launch. haven't had any game breaking issues till date. Well this new patch, i've had my wolf gear and zerkinean saddle bags disappear. Shouldnt have happened.

anyway im lucky to not face the problems u had.

WellyUK3110d ago

I never had any issues on my PS4. The XP bug was fixed in a few days. Saves could of been caused by system updates as well so it may not be the games fault. If the game freezes your console then it's most likely something wrong with your console.

I and many others have had over 200 hours of play time on this game which shows that it's not the broken/buggy game you think it is.

iistuii3110d ago

I'm glad you never suffered what I did. But I'm not going to argue with you about it, just read the 15gb patch notes of this patch alone with the 600, yes 600 fixes, they're called fixes because it was broken. You fix things that are broken, I never said it was unplayable, but to me with piss poor framerate & all those bugs it was broken.

someOnecalled3110d ago

coming from fanbase that played all their games, the witcher games have always been buggy in the beginning. the difference is that are genuine and try to push the limits. So acting like it never was bug and these big patches dont exist is the real problem. especial for the fanbase thats just hopping on the bandwagon. i really surprise how well are taking having to download contless big patches to make this game work correctly when they downplay other or say BS like we dont like always online, "we have download caps", "i just want plug and play", etc. but if you dont have internet like console gamers love to throw around it when it suits them they would be stuck with a broken or damn near unplayable game. i love all the witcher games but you have to notice the bias with a certain group.

im pretty sure console gamers are still saying buggy game dont happen on consoles dispite the numerous buggy game launches. ex gtaV, halo col, fallout, skyrim, driveclub, MAG, socom, etc. but it dont keep them on that pedestal like they want people to think like when you tell them these console are under powered. IT denial at its finest

The 7 Best Western RPGs: Immersive Adventures

RPGs are often huge, sprawling endeavours. With limited playtime, we have to choose wisely, so here's the best western RPGs available today.

SimpleSlave14d ago

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan14d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave13d ago (Edited 13d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.

Infinite but not the first two games? Witcher 3 but not the first two games?? GTA V but not literally any of the games before it??? Portal 2 but not the first? Also if you're going to play Shadow of The Colossus play the remaster and not the remake. Can't say I disagree with the list but my man it's all over the place.

Name Last Name37d ago

I mean some sequels are objectively better and you don’t need to play the whole series.

Inverno37d ago

But most of these games have a story to follow, sure you can catch up with a YouTube vid but where's the fun in that?

LucasRuinedChildhood37d ago (Edited 37d ago )

A list like this isn't telling you not to play the previous games if you want to. It's just giving you legendary games to play.

But tbh, you don't always have to force yourself to play every entry in a franchise to get to the better ones.

- The vast majority of Witcher 3 players never played the first 2 and had a great time. The first 2 games aren't in the same league.
- The GTA games are self-contained with the odd fun reference. You can easily jump into any of them.
- The Shadow Of The Colossus remake looks and controls better than the original (plus it has a 60fps option while the remaster is just 30fps). New players will enjoy it more.
- Portal 2 is a lot better than Portal 1 and takes the concept much further gameplay-wise. Storywise, Portal 1 is fairly light too. Not that you shouldn't play it but realistically ... you'd love Portal 2 whether you play it or not (at lot of Portal 2 players have never played 1).

Bioshock 1 is the only one I agree with you on simply because it's one the best games of all time and arguably better than Infinite. No other setting like Rapture.

Looking at the list, I'd recommend playing Uncharted 1 before 2 but no doubt, 2 is the legendary one you have to play.

Inverno37d ago

I get it, but that's just my opinion on his opinion. I just think that before you play a sequel you should still play what came before it. Maybe it's just me but i find it fascinating playing through the first game in a series and seeing how it has evolved through its sequels. Like I said I don't disagree with the list, other than SoTC which I strongly believe the remaster of the original should be played above the remake.

AuraAbjure37d ago

Awesome list! Hot take on Fear (and it's hard af expansion Persaus Mandate!) Bioshock Infinite is stellar, so is the Witcher 3 and you nailed it by having Ocarina of Time. So many fantastic games! Gotta play 'em all! Next one on my list is Prey after I beat Dead Space 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction.
