Charting old territory: can The Nathan Drake Collection fill the void left by Uncharted 4's delay?

In March, Sony’s end-of-year games line-up took a blow as Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End slipped to 2016.

The title was perhaps the biggest first-party exclusive title that the PlayStation 4 could lay claim to this year, and that line-up was left looking much more anaemic after developer Naughty Dog said it needed more time to realise its ambition for Uncharted 4.

Sony is endeavouring to fill the void in its line-up with The Nathan Drake Collection, a compilation of the first three console Uncharted games – Drake’s Fortune, Among Thieves and Drake’s Deception – remastered for the PS4 with a slew of improvements.

Those games were all critically acclaimed when they first launched on the PlayStation 3 – scoring Metacritic scores of 88, 96 and 92 respectively.

Absolutely. I received my copy a day early :)

Void? Fallout 4...Battlefront...MGS...I see no void here.

But the start of next year is looking pretty bare other than Deus Ex and the soon to be greatest game of all time...

The nathan drake collection was part of the reason why the game got delayed, I am sure of it. When else would they release the nathan drake collection? AFTER Uncharted 4? No way.

The nathan drake collection is here for two reasons.

1. Make the old fans happy so they can play all the unchrated games again but with better graphics & gameplay

2. Get new fans onboard so Uncharted 4 will sell better.

U4 was not delayed because of this collection. There's no proof of that. Just conspiracies...

Basically this collection took way less time to make than U4. Uncharted already has a massive following, so I really didn't need this remaster for that. Also U4 could have easily launch in December as well, but it was not ready. Getting more fans hyped for U4 and gaining even more fans by making this was a good thing. It eases the wait for the highly anticipated U4 too.

"Getting more fans hyped for U4 and gaining even more fans by making this was a good thing. "

Where did I say it WASNT a good thing? Its a smart business move because now they have more time to make Uncharted 4 even better, while getting more fans onboard with the Nathan Drake collection.

It just makes the most sense to me to delay the game for the Nathan Drake collection. Dont always believe what the PR guys say. They lie most of the time. And yes, I am well aware that I will get hundreds of disagrees for saying this, but it is the truth.

"Uncharted already has a massive following, so I really didn't need this remaster for that."

Errr.. You know that a lot of people haven't played Uncharted yet right? Because a lot of people went from the Xbox 360 to the PS4 and have never played an Uncharted before.

Statistic speak the truth. A few hours ago I read an article on N4G that said that 80% of the PS4 owners haven't played an Uncharted game yet.

Do your research.

Mr Pumblechook3544d ago

Shuhei Yoshida said that roughly 50% of PS4 owners did not own a PS3. So that is 50% of 25 million gamers who never had the chance to experience Uncharted. So The Nathan Drake Collection is the logical way to introduce them to the series before the final chapter.

DoomeDx3544d ago

Interesting. This article states its 80%

Another example of why PR people lie.

Fishy Fingers3544d ago

Slightly different, 50% of PS4 owners never had a PS3 while the 80% refers to the amount of PS3 OWNERS who never played Uncharted.

"The nathan drake collection was part of the reason why the game got delayed, I am sure of it"

You do know that this remaster was done by a studio called bluepoint, right?

DoomeDx3544d ago

Did you even read the entire post? It was there because they couldnt release Uncharted 4 AND the Nathan Drake collection at the same time. So instead, they pushed Uncharted 4 further away to release the Nathan Drake collection because it wouldnt make any sense to release it AFTER uncharted 4.

This will make Uncharted more pupulair, and give it more sales.

Why do I even explain myself to you guys anymore.

guyman3544d ago (Edited 3544d ago )

You're getting really touchy about this subject. Does it offend you that much?

The reason why they delayed this game was because of the amy heining fallout and change in vision, first and foremost. Then, this remaster was to fill the void U4 would leave in the last quarter of the year. It's that simple. They didnt delay U4 because of this collection. I have been following U4 since it's reveal in november 2013 so I think I know what im talking about.
