Far Cry Primal Stars the Voice of Deus Ex’s Adam Jensen

The world is abuzz with Far Cry Primal, the newly announced Ubisoft game that’s thrusting the popular survival series into the Stone Age. Details are limited, but we do know that the game’s lead hunter, Takkar, will be played by Deus Ex’s Elias Toufexis.

Interesting. I hope he won't sound too much like Adam Jensen though as I'll wonder why the character travelled back in time, or was it via Animus?

I'm a little confused as to why 10,000 BC characters need professional voice actors.

Elias Toufexis, the voice actor for Adam Jensen sounds the same in his personal life.

Yes he has a very unique tone to his voice.

GigawattConduit3506d ago

I wonder if he asked for this one.

Adexus3506d ago

Finally got in a Far Cry game, ey? He originally did the voice for Jason Brody in Far Cry 3 until he got replaced.

WizzroSupreme3506d ago

Cool to hear. Guy's got a great voice.

Gwiz3506d ago

It's still not a Deus Ex game, his voice delivers in the case of Adam Jensen.
Why is that relevant to Far Cry anyway?

Elias Toufexis bids a heartfelt farewell to Adam Jensen and thanks fans for their support

In a message posted to Reddit, Deus Ex actor Elias Toufexis said he'll always be associated with Jensen, "and that's fine with me."

Sciurus_vulgaris459d ago (Edited 459d ago )

“I never asked for this.”

mastershredder459d ago

He should be more heartfelt towards the team that got their game dumped on rather than making this about himself. Seriously. F- this clout chasing jack ass especially with this timing and the impact this had on the studio (the cuts and layoffs) and their families. You are outsourced and totally replaceable yo. Take this weird-azz VO actors worship and cram it.

Deus Ex, Starfield Voice Actor Speaks Out Against AI Adam Jensen Mod For Cyberpunk 2077

Elias Toufexis, the voice actor behind Adam Jensen from Deus Ex says that using his voice for an AI performance is a "theft of his voice."

Sciurus_vulgaris570d ago

AI voice acting has considerable potential, especially in RPG games. Imagine playing a game where your characters voice could be your own. Furthermore, NPC could procedurally generate speech based on algorithms. However, cloning the voice of people is controversial, especially when there seems to be no regulation on who can use AI voices.

I'd rather ppl got paid instead of being cheap with talk of the potential

RiseNShine569d ago (Edited 569d ago )

it's a mod and nobody is making any money out of it, i understand why he's angry, but i doubt there's anything he can do legally here when there's simply no benefit, it's no different than a million of memes of other people faces, Schwarzenegger videos singing Wizard of Oz songs (search it), and so on.

anast569d ago (Edited 569d ago )

That Elias guy better fight for this stuff and not be afraid to lose out on some work while fighting. If not it's just catharsis and AI voices will proceed.

However, we all know voice actors won't. They will cannibalize each other and jump when the boss says jump, all the while AI voice acting creeps in. Years later, they will lament on social media to stay relevant. More years later, gamers will talk about how much better the good ´'ol days of real voice acting were. Next, someone will write a book about the lost voice actors and make some money and then even more years later no one will even care enough to be nostalgic. Look at the transition from theatre to silent film to talkies, or painting to photography to digital art to AI art.

"Good luck" on your non-fight to stop AI generated content across the board.

Machines have replaced numerous roles. No one has a unique claim to a sound. Someone out there might have a voice almost identical to yours or could mimic it flawlessly. You wouldn't have grounds to sue them for it.

The next few years regarding AI legislation are going to be interesting, to say the least.
