The Best Skateboarding Games That Aren’t Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5

Skaters lament. The new Tony Hawk game hasn’t so much arrived as it has bailed trying to do an heel flip and landed in a ditch. It’s ass. It’s toss. It’s an abomination that somehow makes the skateboard peripheral of Tony Hawk: Ride look like a lovely, inexpensive bit of horseplay for the whole family.

Okay, so maybe it’s not that bad. Still, skateboarding fans have certainly been left weeping into their beanies at THPS5, a disappointing, glitchy showing for a series that’s lost its way. Nevertheless, Pro skater was never the only game for practitioners of the hippest, hip-breaking-est extreme sport on Earth. Here’s the 4-11 on a few other skate games to try out instead. Check it out, as a youth might say…

between skate, skate 2 and skate 3, which one would you gamers say has the best single player experience?

lashes2ashes3499d ago

I would say in terms of most tricks ect. Skate 3. But I have a really soft spot for skate1 because I put over fifty hours into the demo. Something about the world of skate 2 and 3 just always felt a little off to me. But that could be because after getting sick of tony hawk pro skater for lack of realism skate 1 was like the greatest thing ever made lol.

If I remember rightly Skate 1 only had single player. It was an amazing game for it's time, a realistic skateboarding game that took skill to master with a fresh control scheme (I LOVE that all the tricks were on the right analog stick, it just felt more fluid and like you were actually doing the tricks, as opposed to right+square to kickflip lol)

Personally, I never got the 3rd one, but I loved Skate 1 and Skate 2. The biggest difference between the 2 is that you can get off your board in Skate 2 which makes it easier to get around certain parts of the map.

Dammit, I really wanna play some Skate now lol

So the game isn't even done and they're already asking for more money?

theindiearmy53d ago

What do you mean by "more money"? It's a free-to-play game. No one paid anything to be in the closed beta. All purchases made during the closed beta will be converted back to in-game currency for players to re-use however they wish after launch.

isarai52d ago (Edited 52d ago )

More money than what EA is giving them to make the game. Didn't think id have to spell it out. How's about they finish the damn game first before asking people to dump money into it. It's not like they need the cashflow to get across the finish line, it's EA not some indie studio, or crowdfunded project

theindiearmy51d ago

Or maybe it's a playtest and they want to play test the store to make sure it works before launching. Because if they launched the game and the store was broke you'd all be making silly comment about that. "tHeY dIdn'T eVeN TeSt ThE sToRe bEfoRe lAunCh."

LordoftheCritics54d ago

This has been in playtest for 5 years.

I won't say any more

Always good to see EA has its priorities straight...

Muigi53d ago

Two Tony Hawk games will have been released before this comes out wow.

Is anyone really surprised? This is the same company that once considered charging for every time you reload your weapon in Battlefield. These guys are the worst.

what a coincidence... just the other day T Hawk was said to be in talks with Activision for a revival as well. I swear, EA and Activision have spies among their ranks. CoD info begets Battlefield info just as T Hawk begets Skate.
