is this the only way to see if your friends are online and their status if you create a group?

They are 2 separate things. Groups are a way of organising your friends...kind of lol. I set up a group for my GTA Clan so I can see all of them in one screen (8 of us) without scrolling through my normal friend list trying to find them (93 friends). You can still find all the people added to your groups in your friends list though.

i've never had issues in all the years i've used my ps3, xbox 360 before and steam account.

for big 3.0 i must admit this is a pretty "who needs this?" kinda update. Besides YouTube streaming, I could care less about everything else 3.0 brings.

Why not bring the features that are most obviously being requested the most? Like external HDD support? Friend notifications, etc?

They have this allready was added not too long ago, download the app, it even plays mkv files.
Granted its a bit buggy and has problems with some movies, its no way as stable as my x1.

But it does work! kinda lol its a media player app, look in psn store under apps buddy

Sooooo its already confirmed that we will be getting some sorta of remastering of some of those titles as where do you think those games will come on PSN when Star Wars comes out? Why do you think they are even surveying non-PS4 favorites by consumers?

Why do you think this is happening for? So no PS1 and PS2 classics with this update..but that doesn't mean they are not coming period as clearly...the leaks coming out and even from Sony or EA with the SW BF bundle is sorta confirming its existence on PS4.

I don't believe they are even going to make THAT MUCH money with those classics. Games tend to sell the MOST during the first 6 months to year of their lives. I want them as a gamer, they are coming clearly, but I can't say Sony is going to BANK on those titles as that is very unlikely.

@Doctor- nope. They are disagreeing based on the notion that its cost Sony a lot of lost money. Its not going to make them THAT much money to actually do that. I mean..stop assuming someone is disagreeing due to being a "fanboy" as I favor PS MOST times, but that doesn't mean I just blindly agree with everything pro Sony or Pro PS.

I don't agree with the idea that this will make the a junk load of money, it will make them some money yes... but nothing spectacular. As I'm disagreeing with the degree that his will help them, not that I don't want it. I mean..how much did the PS2 or PS1 classics help them last gen? I own soooooooo much of them on my PS3, but I still got a PS4 DAY 1 and so did 25 million others for next gen games. PS3, PS2 and PS1 classics are welcome, but its not my sole purpose for owning a PS4. I just don't think they would be missing out on THAT much money by not making classics.

Good to add, I want them clearly, Sony will make money...not that much though. I'm merely not exaggerating how much will come from this. and others have noted too its clearly going to be announced at PSX or PGW etc as its already been spotted on ESRB and the Star Wars bundle confirms it.

I'm really interested in "communities". It's currently deactivated in the 3.0 Beta but i hope it's final iteration will make it easier to find player to "Destiny" with at any given moment.

I completely agree Psytrix, there is nothing in this update that i am remotely interested in whatsoever, all this emphasis on the social aspects such as twatter and fleecebook, friends lists and stickers doesn't sound to me like they are listening to their fan base at all.

Since the introduction of the PS4 users have been crying out for features that were utilized in the PS3, such as the multimedia capabilities but again it falls on deaf ears. My guess is that there are two reasons for this, reason one being an issue of piracy. My PS3 has over a few thousand songs, as well as over 50 of the very latest Hollywood blockbusters and i got all of this entirely for free using my PS3 web browser. Reason two, in my opinion, is that Sony are taking the lucrative route this time by providing their own paid for multimedia services and upgrading PS4's browser capability and multimedia aspects would lose them business.

I am in no way attempting to downplay any of the new features and i am sure that many users will love the new enhancements, but sadly the social PS4 stuff is not for me and i'm just expressing my disappointment at the lack of certain aspects i hoped would have been implemented in this update.

You know that the ps4 media player came out in July right ?

Plays loads of formats including mkv's, streams from a DLNA server etc.

@ cfir above - of course i know about the ps4 media player, it's not what i am refering to at all. You have to create separate folders on a usb stick in order to watch your films and stored media on ps4, but on my ps3 i can download music and movies straight to my ps3 hard drive. My current ps4 web browser struggles playing a lot of media and websites and runs out of memory and crashes regularly.

I love my ps4, but i just wish it had some of the features that my ps3 had in regards to the multimedia features.

As long as the CE-33126-5 Youtube Gaming Stream bug has been fixed, as I could NEVER stream on it but can on Twitch/Ustream, then I'm happy. I know i'm not the only one that got it, and it almost seems like they were just ignoring us when mentioning it...

The 9GB extra save memory is much needed and the community section is really cool to me. I definitely will join a few like Fallout 4 Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3. I want to be able to manage my games with folders but since I switch between 2 games they are always at the forefront so it is not a big issue for me but would be nice.

It disappoints me how little PS4 players care about sharing content and community features. As if they're all TRYING to be social gaming recluses. Besides a few IRL friends, nobody on my friend's list ever shares anything. If you're a real fan of games, then you should be interested in all games and players. I don't play rocket league but I love the little clips of good plays that my friends post. Just weird to me that some people don't play games and think "wow this is funny I should save that" or something along those lines.

Ive been in the beta for the longest time so this isnt something really new to me lol sony is doing an amazing job with adding great next gen features but seems to be slacking on how frequently they update the UI and adding missing features and basic stuff people been asking for.

I always laugh at the people asking for PSN ID changes. Sony warned you multiple times before you even confirmed your ID that it was permanent, and that you were not going to be able to change it. Should have heeded the warning.

A milestone like version 3.00 should be alot better for PS4 owners than this.

The only useful one on that list is :

PlayStation Plus: We’ve made a dedicated section for PlayStation Plus, which you can access by clicking the big Plus icon on the top right corner of your PS4 home screen. Once there you can easily manage your membership, see the monthly free games to download, deals for PS Plus members, and all of the games you’ve redeemed through PS Plus on PS4.

Everything else is all about sharing sharing sharing, when are people going to realise that the word share means free advertising to these companies, and thats fine to a degree for them to get people on board like that, but at least SHARE with us some useful things like folders and some basic sorting.

They didnt balance the scales this time, but who knows we MIGHT get a hidden gem.

I love my PS4, but damn am I crazy underwhelmed with this update - especially given the 3.0 moniker (this doesn't feel like it justifies a jump from 2.57 up to 3). Don't know how they can claim to be listening to players - plural - as this is definitely aimed at one type of player, not all of them.

Perhaps there is a larger chorus of people asking for more social integration than I am aware of. They really want Sony to focus solely on creating "PS4 Facebook". However the cynicist in me says these features were chosen to be implemented first as to improve that sweet, sweet free user generated advertisement.

Basically nothing for you unless you are some kind of PewDiePie streamer or social networking maven. I'm a core gamer. I play a lot of single player stuff, light on the multiplayer side of things. I want GAME related features. I want Quality of Life changes. We received exactly none of the former, and basically the only one of the latter is the Plus Storage increase - something their hand was pretty much forced on.

I don't begrudge others these features if they like them, but it'd be nice if Sony remembered a fair portion of their consumer base play games more than post about them. That we don't all spend every moment online & some even spend time playing in - gasp! - comparable isolation. So many FW updates pass with core gamers asking for the same things ad nauseam. Perhaps they could occasionally toss us a breadcrumb or two while they keep adding to their glut of already fleshed out social features...you know, from time-to-time. Would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know if they fixed the "cannot start application error CE-38612-0" error. I have the Nyko Addon with a 3 TB HARD DRIVE. ALL the games worked fine until they were each updated. Physical and digital both worked fine but as soon as I updated the game with a patch, it stopped working and that error popped up. I've had to go back to 500GB hard drive in the mean time.

You wouldn't need a 3.0 for the things people want. 3.0 is needed because they are making massive changes to the OS framework and how people utilize and interact with it. Adding a new notification would be a minor update, same with additional external drive support. Setting yourself away/offline/etc. might require a major update.

I'm not sure why or if the other features will make it in, but I'm certainly not ignoring what I can do with my PS4 that has grown over the last two years and then saying "Sony doesn't listen." Nor am I just looking for a reason to complain every update that doesn't include what I want. I look at what is there and understand not everything is for me. Heck, look at how popular watching people play games has become, and how the consoles have evolved to support it. I have no interest in watching people play, but you can't deny the millions who do.

Sorry, but I do find this update disappointing. Cloud saves are great, but that's for PS+. PNG images should've been on the PS4 much earlier, but at least it's here now. Too bad all the screenshots we've captured up to this point missed out.

Where's external HDD support? Where are the folders? Where are the friend notifications we've been wanting since day 1? Name changes? We've been asking that long before the PS4 was even announced. The list goes on and on. Will we ever get these features? As a consumer, one should be entitled to complain. That's how business works. I've taken business classes to know.

I am not saying these features are bad, but unfortunately after this update, we're in for a long series of stability updates before another set of features will roll out sometime in next year. Is it really surprising that people are complaining?

The list actually doesn't go on, it stops there pretty much. It's the same thing we've heard over and over, and I know you guys want it, but bringing it up each update isn't going to make it happen.

If you know how business works, you should also know that asking here isn't how it's going to happen. If the #BetterPSN didn't make it happen, then it likely isn't in the cards. But, your answers lie with Sony, not every submission dealing with an update on N4G.

And, it actually is surprising that people are complaining so much constantly considering the stuff they have it down to from when the console released is a very small set of items compared to the very long list it used to be. Heck, multiple items people have requested for a long time were added in this, but instead of acknowledging them, people only ask for what isn't there. At least that's my opinion.

I get people really want this stuff, I want stuff too, but to just go "Doesn't have X, Y, Z, don't care" is essentially sweeping under the rug everything they have done that people have asked for.

I have been in the beta since it launched and the only feature that I like is the extra cloud storage. But I can see the appeal some might have if they like streaming and sharing since it does seem to be focused on those types of features. I think that some of the features people are asking for such as ID change, external support, online/offline all have to do with potential security risk's that Sony is concerned with for good reason. What I don't understand is why they can't add folders, customizable back rounds, and third party bluetooth support I guess you just can't please everyone.

I just want better internet speeds on PSN. I have 80-100 download and around 10-12 upload on my computer. But on my wired PS4 i only get 30-40 download and 2-3 upload. It's ridiculous i can't even do share play.

To use shareplay you need at least 5 on upload speeds. Every time i try to use it says its too low. I don't really have a problem waiting for downloads since they still work when im doing other things but i find downloads on PS3 are faster than PS4 but install times on PS4 are better.

The then make lists of requests and some are easy to implement, some are hard. They get a combination of the 2 to make an update.
I couldn't give a stuff about the social stuff, I have WhatsApp, thanks , but they have seen what many vocal people want. Community. The Share button got where things were going right, as did streaming etc. They are following this logically. Setting up like minded communities is smart.
