Square Enix previewed its new Tokyo RPG Factory-developed RPG Ikenie to Yuki no Setsuna during a Tokyo Game Show live stream earlier today. The game is a 1990s-esque RPG for the modern era.
looks real good, let the hype begin
Ive waited for ages for Chrono Cross something and this looks like closest thing.
Wow this game is absolutely gorgeous. This has so much beauty and charm that it reminds me of the Squaresoft games from the 90's. The artwork and music is so impressive to me. The snow falling is really lovely as well. I can't wait to see more of this. I am definitely buying this day one.
This game is going to make me man-pregnant with a nostalgia baby. My Vita is going to be so happy when I break the news to him.
a little something something for the hardcore RPG fans.
So charming - think I'll get it for PSVita first!
To be honest it looks more like a light RPG instead of a full-hardcore game, but maybe that's because the project just started. They did say that its work in progress and features such as battle results (where exp accumulation is shown etc.) are there, but not in this preview version. I hope it truly is a 50-60hrs long, story-driven deep rpg with interesting and complicated mechanics. It's just that things like the name of the items that you can buy in the first village's store were also something like "Cure poison" indicate that the game is catered to younger audiences, whereas many 90s RPGs create the immersion by using interesting item names related to the world and left the player to figure it out how to use them. Also, the look of the enemies has been made cute to get female players in as well. While I think it is fine (or perhaps preferable?) to create a unisex game experience, I still hope the story and character design is mature and not all cutesy and filled with rainbow colors.
