A look at PC gaming's dominant market performance

MWEB GameZone writes: "There is a renewed focus on PC gaming and rightly so, as it leads all three consoles in terms of hardware sales.

Here is a look at PC gaming’s dominant market performance; crushing its console opposition with ease."

And only a few months ago people said it was "dying."

Sillicur3149d ago

Exactly! I cant see how PC gaming will ever die out, it's in my opinion the most versatile and powerful system, something the consoles can never really achieve with their long single spec hardware lifetime.

Spyroo3149d ago

Funny how pc gamers say the same exact thing about consoles yet it's bigger than ever.
Both sides are growing, just more gamers now then before.

plut0nash3149d ago

PC remains strong thanks to eSports and strong exclusives :)

Sillicur3149d ago

I agree, eSports is probably a major part of it. However, if you look at eSports titles, they dont require big bad hardware systems.

I think probably the main reason is that you can, with enough power, run even cross-platform games the way they are meant to be played, at full gfx power!

schmoe3149d ago

Yeah, until consoles have an upgrade path for all hardware not just drive space, pc will always be my bitch of choice

HoldenZA3149d ago

I'm loving pc gaming at the moment, and that is coming from a console fanboy :)

Sillicur3149d ago

PC gaming best gaming, thats why :) Consoles are awesome too, but i just like the freedom and versatility PC gaming brings to the table. Also, eSports.

ninsigma3149d ago

The appeal of consoles is the exclusives for me. All multi-plats go on my pc and it's amazing running them at such high quality. I like having all options open to me. I get most enjoyment that way because I have interests on all platforms.

schmoe3149d ago

Wow. Really Holden??! That is awesome, who taught you how to use a mouse??

Sillicur3149d ago

Hahaha, good times ahead !

_LarZen_3149d ago

Personally I think PC is the most soulless way to play and enjoy games. The only part I truly love is to build them.

mixelon3149d ago

When a game is full screen, on the same display, using the same controllers.. Where is this "soul" coming from on consoles?

Sillicur3149d ago

Indeed, i would like to know that as well

freshslicepizza3149d ago

the soul from console gamers are those who keep saying they want more single player games and whine about having to be online.

funny thing is some console gamers don't care about the health of the pc market when in reality it is better to have a healthy console and pc market. if developers can recoup costs on more platforms it benefits all of us.

_LarZen_3149d ago (Edited 3149d ago )

There is no unity. It's fragmented into so many bits and parts. PC gamers are more focused on discussing performance most of the time and rarely about the games.

Physical games are more or less gone and everything is digital and sterile. What PC gamer goes to the store to buy a game and talk to other gamers there?

PC gaming represented at E3 is a joke. There is not one big community but a bunch of them all fragmented and mostly toxic. Earning trophies/achivemnts is a joke on Steam.

It just feels like you are sacrificing all the good fun things about gaming on a console to get better performance if you have a wallet for it.

Console gaming is one big community. Games in stores and ownership over games. E3 each year that is like Christmas for gamers. Earning trophies/achievments is fun and something discussed in the community.

The biggest thing is the feeling of being a part of something. With Microsoft and Sony communicating to the community and overall a much better and healthy gaming community.

Iv'e been a PC and console gamer since I was a little kid. And PC as a gaming plattform has just gone downhill year after year. A soulless boring place to play games.

That's my opinion. And nothing you guys say will change it. That's my 29 years of PC and console gaming experience.

freshslicepizza3148d ago

@_LarZen_,
"There is no unity. It's fragmented into so many bits and parts."

that's called versatility. not a walled off garden.

"PC gamers are more focused on discussing performance most of the time and rarely about the games. \"

yeah right. look around and stop making baseless claims. the same can be said about console gamers who like to argue about who has the better exclusives and performance.

"Physical games are more or less gone and everything is digital and sterile. What PC gamer goes to the store to buy a game and talk to other gamers there?"

when i go to places like eb games i don't want to talk to them because they don't know what much at all. the pc community is also very helpful about building pc's, how to get the best performance and about how to play the games. this is what forums are for. buying games at the store doesn't mean as far as solidifying relationships. it's also worth noting pc communities often stick around longer. you also get much more into clans there too.

"PC gaming represented at E3 is a joke. There is not one big community but a bunch of them all fragmented and mostly toxic. Earning trophies/achivemnts is a joke on Steam."

in other words you like your prices high because of the marketing spent advertising the consoles and games. i doubt most steam users would say achievements are a joke and you also don't have to pay to play online.

"It just feels like you are sacrificing all the good fun things about gaming on a console to get better performance if you have a wallet for it. "

all the good things? how are you sacrificing anything by having a more open system capable of doing so much more? you don't have one head company telling you what you should have and not have.

"Console gaming is one big community. Games in stores and ownership over games. E3 each year that is like Christmas for gamers. Earning trophies/achievments is fun and something discussed in the community."

e3 is like christmas because most of the games they show don't come out until the following years christmas. no argument there. there is also a steam community and other pc communities, you should do a little research.

"The biggest thing is the feeling of being a part of something. With Microsoft and Sony communicating to the community and overall a much better and healthy gaming community."

that's because it's a closed box with more money spent on marketing. steam is the best example of one big company but there is also a bright side to not having one company take all ownership. no multiplayer fees, a competitive digital marketplace, dedicated servers, and if you don't like xbox live or psn then what other choices do you have? they sell you wallpaper skins, i guess that's good.

"Iv'e been a PC and console gamer since I was a little kid. And PC as a gaming plattform has just gone downhill year after year. A soulless boring place to play games."

grab a headset, invite and make friends. make an effort.

"That's my opinion. And nothing you guys say will change it. That's my 29 years of PC and console gaming experience."

that's fine but you never did a good job convincing me it's as bad as you portray it to be.

You believe your Playstation is possessing of a soul? Did your parents tell you your 360 went to heaven when it inevitably RROD'd?

That is the lamest "mine is better than yours" argument yet.

Seafort3149d ago

I actually think it's the opposite. Console gaming for me is soulless and stuck in a closed off environment and it's one of the reasons I haven't bought a console this time around.

I have much more social interactions with PC gaming than I ever did with consoles. I feel I have a lot more freedom with PC gaming and the games are so diverse than any of the consoles will ever be.

cd13149d ago

I like the way the author mentioned the E3 PC gaming show as if it's a positive, ha ha - it was terrible.

My favorite bit was where the Muppet of a host tried to take a cheap shot at Console hardware, unfortunately for him he did this while interviewing an AMD exec - awkward...
