Apple has finally released their newest revision of the Apple Tv. The rumors were right, games are coming to the Apple TV. With all the fuss surrounding this new gadget, are we really seeing the beginning of the end for consoles as we know it?
I agree..plain out no.
no. ask yourself this, how much does apple actually invest in making games? it will never be a serious platform for gaming.
I think something like this can become a console. But not to replace real consoles. An Xbox TV that could Stream Xbox One games would be awesome. And it would be way cheaper. Good for people who just want to play games and have a good internet connection. Also good for people who need multiple consoles in their house to play together. The Apple TV COULD have been a a real threat if they marketed it as a gaming console. But they didn't they only showed like 2 games so gaming is obviously not what will sell this.
Any reason this can't play the indie shovelware that makes up the bulk of new console game libraries? The Apple platforms have a great deal of games on them. This is a natural extension of what they have been doing for quite some time.
No Apple sux
Nah. Apple's okay. Just too expensive, though.
I'll take Apple instead of Microsoft at any day, thank you very much.
I would be sad if it was.
Yes it is, MS/Sony/Nintendo are all doomed All those mobile ports and clone games for Apple TV will make it sells millions :P
The Apple TV is not even considered a blip on the radar. It's simply for a different average Joe market.
NO PC PS5 Xbox Two are the future present being ps4,xbox one and pc somewhere along the lines is also Nintendo home console
PC isn't really a game console, its a game platform Console = primary design is to play video games Platform = it can play games but wasn't the primary design of it ex. PC, phones, etc
Such baseless confidence.
Such a pointless reply. I have stated many reasons in the past why I believe consoles will be going this route in the future. Feel free to PM me if you can discuss this subject rationally.
First, your past reasons aren't stated here, so there's that. Second, rational debate has never been one of your strong points. Hyperbole and straw man, on the other hand... That said, I'm willing to give it a shot. Third, last I checked, you had blocked messages from me.
First, you could always ask why and it still doesn't explain your reply. I have always stated more than enough times that MS and Sony are taking a more aggressive approach to digital and their online services. Second, you have to be kidding me right? You are the one always back-peddling, over exaggerating and faulting everyone and everything for hating Sony with any type of opinion that doesn't align with yours. Please don't start that here. Three, I never blocked you, in fact you are the one who blocked me after you replied to a PM. How you got that confused is strange.
No it isn't better than a Roku 3..
No thanks... Will never buy apple
I still have the iPod my brother gave for Christmas from 2006. Like I said in my first post, Apple's cool. Just way outta my price range.
If you can afford a PS4 or PC, you can certainly get a $149 Apple TV
not my future. If everyone buys into it, i go retro
Nothing Apple showed today was the future of anything!
Agreed, looked like just a bunch of older tech borrowed from other companies. Roku 3 is on par with Apple TV and Roku 4 is about to be announced, Surface Pro 3 is way better than iPad Pro, and the iPhone is barely a refresh of last years model while the Sony Xperia Z5 is far superior.
probably not, but I don't think it wants to be, so much as just the capability to be used to play games among other things. definitely for casual players/family at a very low cost. i bet it does better than playstation tv did regardless.. pretty hard not to. its vastly more functional than ps tv considering the apps actually work on it. i see the future of consoles eventually being either streaming/cloud or at the very least discless and very much requiring internet. my reasons for suspecting as much are: discs are horribly inefficient and slow. the only reason we have them now is because they were better than cartridges back in the day due to larger storage capability. today most people have fast internet and even things like sd cards have exponentially faster read/write capability with just as much if not more storage capability. the battle between the xbox one/ps4/pc graphical capabilities have told us that power matters. a cheaper solution to having infinite amounts of power are to do the heavy lifting on the backend. Playstation Now shows us this is possible. It should be really possible by the next round of consoles. AppleTV won't be the king of consoles, but to me it strikes a curious outlook of a more interconnected entertainment device that doesn't require physical media. the games will be just like they are on iOS/Android in general, but the seeds of what console could or should be are kinda there.
Well when a $150 tech item does what MS has its $500 main focus on from the start **cough*cough**...TV. It makes people ask questions like this.
I was waiting on the new Apple TV...chargeable remote with touchpad....Siri....new UI...memory for apps....yes please...I'm preordering asap
i ordered 2 to replace my two original pucks :)
Sony should release a PS Now app for it so it can play some big games ;)
No but i will pick one up anyway but wont ever use it for gaming lol... Is there a pirce for it yet?
Apple is late to the game of streaming tv.. Netflix owns that crown and will never relinquish it. You might got a jump on the phone market Apple but streaming belongs to netflix and amazon prime and the xbox one and PS4 are excellent streamers and again your late to the game.
im not sure what you mean but apple tv isnt new infact the first apple tv came out in 2007 but the device version most people love and use is the second generation that came out in 2010 and in my opinion netflix, wwe network, hbo go and hulu viewed via apple tv is the best version. also if you own other apple products they seamlessly connect with each other
People People Two Words "Apple Pippin". If you don't know it, research on it. Then you would have your answer to this stupid question.
The day they take over the console space is the same day I move back to playing exclusively on PC.
But you already did when you played the Xbox.
I wouldn't be surprised if it kicks some ass actually.
Apple has a way to hypnotize some people but not everyone. Hardcore gamers would not change dedicated consoles to this or even less to Apple, knowing how strick and controlling they are.
Nobody seems to be pointing out the interesting fact that Apple's Pencil has ONCE AGAIN proven Nintendo is always right. Wii U Controllers have pencils, 3DS's have pencils. The pencil shall rise again. Praise jebus.
I hope that people are finally coming to their senses and seeing Apple for what they are... an over-priced and over-hyped turd. They copied design principles of Sony in their golden era, they make cheap products and have a sophisticate tax structure. Innovation to Apple is copying an idea and giving it a fancy new name... like "retina display" that lay-people just seem to lap up. They are bad for the tech industry and for the financial markets in general.
