Until Dawn Review – "Intensely Immersive Horror Experience" | Power Up Gaming

Scott Russell writes: "In a horrific world of death and uncertainty, astute decisions are vital for survival. Wild animals should be handled with care, doors and windows should be approached with suspicion, and above all, close friends and despised enemies alike should be treated with the same level of scepticism. This is the world of Until Dawn, a domain in which player choice matters throughout a grand celebration of the horror genre. Clichés can be found in almost every part of this dark and blood-soaked tale, but they are embraced wholeheartedly as a key element in Until Dawn’s fantastically interactively dramatic. The teens getting slashed are immature, annoying, and are constantly trapping themselves within ridiculous situations; but, as a result, their story is a wholly authentic affair, riddled with enjoyable twists, atmospheric dread and an armful of satisfyingly gory deaths."

It's a shame that nobody will comment on this review, but they'll use the lower scores as reasons for why they're skipping it, or why the game is bad.

As soon as my gf and I move, I'll get this game for her to play.

magiciandude3566d ago (Edited 3566d ago )

It's a shame that no matter how good a game is, there will be a few cheap scores to stir up reaction. Happens all the time, especially expected in the age of pretty much anyone starting up some random WordPress blog with a name strikingly similar to Gaming Bolt.

This game is awesome though. Games like this further strengthen the fact that PS4 is all about variety.

Aenea3565d ago

Man, only a 9.2, I'm skipping this, so not what I expected!

:D

Kidding, loving it, finished one complete play through, now collectible hunting and will have to change the result, only 2 living won't do (granted when I got the chance to shoot Emily I took it, not just her character but her voice is annoying "it was just a joke Han!", brrrr, mean girl flashback!)

MasterCornholio3565d ago

I'm guessing some people will use gameskinnys review to make the game look bad. But there's really nothing that you can do about it.

My recommendation is to have a few reviewers that you trust and just use them to figure out how good or bad a game is.

For example, I always like to use Game trailers, Good is a Geek and Projared for reviews.

Officialxandr3566d ago

This, Batman, Witcher, and Bloodborne are my contenders so far.

robtion3565d ago

My options for game of the year are Bloodborne, Until Dawn, Mad Max, MGS5, and Witcher 3.

andresegr3565d ago

Mad Max? Is it that good?

robtion3565d ago

@andresegr Yes, its that good, in my opinion it's a much better game than Arkham Knight. Just a really fun game with a lot of awesome little details, and a fantastic open world. It's the best desert type, post apocalyptic setting have seen in a game. Better than Borderlands.

Just got this today. Definitely a GOTY contender :3

I'm confused. Did they contribute to the writing of the movie?

darthv7239d ago

I think the game writes should be glad... the movie is not that good. Its connection to the game is in name only.

Until Dawn Remake.

Saved you a click.

OtterX42d ago (Edited 42d ago )

Boring. The original was a decent game, but not something worth revisiting. I guess this is alright for anyone who never played the original.

Now, Rush of Blood should have been the real priority for a remake on PSVR2.

adamwparker42d ago

Until Dawn remake, Death Stranding, and a random PS4 game?

Until Dawn was already a PS Plus game! And not even that long ago.
The fact that JUST BECAUSE an Until Dawn movie just released in theaters so SONY trying to push the name is not right for us long time subscribers.

CrimsonWing6942d ago

I mean, technically it’s the Remake. It’s possible that many missed out on the PS4 one when it was a PS+ game. I actually was interested to see what this one is like, but had no intention of buying it, so that’s a plus for me… pun intended.

There's too many games to choose from

No Metal geat solid 1,2,3,4?
No Resident evil?
No Silent hill?
No Midnight club 3?
No NfS Underground 2?
No Final Fantasy?
No Burnout 3?
No Dragon quest 8?
No Days gone?
No Ace combat?
No Tekken/Soul calibur?......
just from the top of my head

PS1 era was full of great RPGs, PS2 was racing generation i would pick top 200 and even that would be just a fraction.

FinalFantasyFanatic195d ago

30 is way too low over the entire history of Playstation, I just wouldn't be able to narrow it down that much, I would pick 100 at least.

Storm23195d ago

Yeah...really odd list. I get that it is personal preference and I love most of the games listed, but my list would definitely be different. I agree though, it would be incredibly difficult to come up with just 30.

lockedongamer1195d ago (Edited 195d ago )

I only picked first-party titles. Otherwise, I agree!

EDIT: Except for Days Gone, I don't get the love for it but you do you!

Chocoburger186d ago

I didn't like Days Gone either, it doesn't deserve to be on any best of list.
