Xbox One Seems To Have A Bleak Future In India

ASidCast: "So if you're following the Indian gaming market, you know that Microsoft's Xbox One isn't doing so well in India and it's competitor, the PlayStation 4, has been destroying it over here. In the last few days, Xbox One has been making a slow and steady comeback after their disastrous initial launch at E3 and their Amazon exclusivity deal in India which gave Sony a clear lead in the Indian market without the latter putting in much effort. But overall, a rather bleak future awaits the Xbox One in India if things go the way they're going."

That's a shame. I'm not sure whether India even has a game development industry, and if they do it's likely mobile games they focus on. But I'm just speculating, if anyone has more insight please let us know.

I'd imagine there could be some quite creative games to come out of India, 4 armed Elephants and such...

Spotie3570d ago

Lol, good job discrediting India to make it seem like they don't matter to the Xbox.

Not sure what I would call what he did a psychoanalysis Kiwi, haha. But yeah, not sure how he got what he got, from your post.

I don't thin there are many devs in india, but there are consumers, which is why the PS4 and XBOX ONE are being sold over there. With that said, the developers would probably arise after the consoles were successful. Supply and demand... as the demand increases, the businesses to supply the games may emerge.

Or maybe it's just not worth it in India, maybe the consumers don't care if a game is indian or not, and are happy playing the larger budget western titles anyway. Pure speculation. :)

Gazondaily3570d ago (Edited 3570d ago )

@Spotie... Seriously? Smh

Anyway its a very similar case in most territories outside US and Europe (mostly UK).

Its really because of the PlayStation legacy which is massive. The OG Xbox was short lived and had a more PC/Western focus. The PlayStation in all its years in the industry has built up a great diversity of titles, something which Xbox has lacked, particularly when it comes to exclusives.

Online gaming wasn't all that massive in Asia at the time (because the online services were quite far behind in Pakistan and India) and that was one of the OG Xbox's strong points lost on the people as well as the 360 in its earlier stronger years.

Now that online gaming has really picked up and the PS4 is all round catering for all as well as the most powerful console, I'm not surprised that the X1 sales are probably limping there.

Article about India and because Its not favourable to your beloved Xbox you title a game '4 armed elephants?'

That's soo small minded and disrespectful

Spotie3569d ago

Are you guys serious?

"I'm not sure whether India even has a game development industry..."

"...likely mobile games..."

"...4 armed Elephants and such..."

He may have started off saying it was a shame, but the rest of the damn comment is made to cast doubt on India being valuable as a gaming market.

But I'M the one with a fanboy agenda. lmao.

There's this thing called google which makes it so you don't have to speculate. The majority of Middle Eastern developers focus on PC due to it being rather hard to build up a console focused studio in many middle eastern countries. No tax breaks, and lack of local console developer support from the manufacturers....although this is changing.

There are also lots of mobile developers, and most countries have more mobile devs than they have console devs. There are a lot of outsource contract studios in the Middle East, particularly India and Lebanon. I've worked with quite a few engineers from various middle eastern countries, and most of them say it's hard to get a gaming related job for consoles because there are very few studios who do it, and the PC based ones tend to be very centralized in metropolitan areas.

The console market however is pretty big in the middle east, as computers are somewhat costly in many places, and consoles offer more value for the money for many. There are huge software sales in some of the coutries, and per populace, they have about the same ratio of software sales as the US or the UK. It's not a small market. In addition, importing is pretty common there, being fairly convenient to import both asian and european titles...but this varies by country.

It's probably worth noting that Sony India is being pretty aggressive in India to get it's console sold. There was a price drop after a year, and they have the head of Sony India who is wheeling and dealing to get things done. I don't think MS is being this aggressive. India itself is a potentially huge market for consoles.

While Microsoft os is generally used everywhere in India over Apple os, India is a playstation country as far as gaming is concerned.

Haru3570d ago

agreed, like 90% of the world is playstation teritory xbox is a dead brand doutside us and uk

StrayaKNT3570d ago

Xbox is beaming in Australia don't know what you're talking about, the amount of people playing Gears in Australia is phenomenal

DLConspiracy3570d ago

@Haru

Dead would mean nonexistent life of players on xbox. Just because it doesn't sell nearly as much as PS4 doesn't mean it is "dead". Glad PS4 is selling well. I don't need to put it down because I enjoy playing on Xbox too. Down to 1 bubble for a reason I guess.

MeliMel3570d ago

But Windows isn't, which is cool because they can buy a few Xbox exclusives and XBL on PC is free. So if Xbox not doing so well. We'll see if Xbox does well on PC side.

BitbyDeath3570d ago (Edited 3570d ago )

'Xbox is beaming in Australia'

Last we heard PS4 had 60% of the marketshare in Australia.
So at most Xbox would have had 30% likely closer to 20% or less since Nintendo does decently here. I wouldn't call that beaming but to each their own.

Wondered if India prefers Ninty or Sony

triple_c3570d ago

The Xbox brand mainly does well in the UK and of course North America. Whereas, the PlayStation brand does well in every territory it's in. The Xbox brand just doesn't have great worldwide brand appeal like the PlayStation brand does. The PlayStation brand is more popular, always has been and still is. Whether you like it or not.

RosweeSon3570d ago

We used to love 360 and I'm sure a few people went for Xbox ones but most U.K people I know and I'm one of them left 360 and went for a ps4.

triple_c3570d ago (Edited 3569d ago )

I don't blame you and your friends. The PS4 has bigger WW appeal because it has more exclusives that appeal too many different markets/audiences and the PlayStation brand in general has more brand recognition overall which says a lot. The PS4 is just the better machine. It has the better looking and performing multiplats, more diverse catalog of exclusives, more first party studios making games for it, more developer support in general, cheaper online, the UI is more responsive and is easier to navigate and use, Project Morpheus which makes it the first console to have VR, innovative controller (more innovative than the Xbox One's controller) with a light bar, speaker and a touchpad, etc. These are all facts.

With that being said, you guys deff made the right choice in my opinion. Welcome back to PlayStation.

Kribwalker3569d ago

^^triplelec

Innovative controller? A touch pad (Wii u?) a speaker in the controller (Wii?) a light bar?? Really? LOL. I would rather have rumble triggers then a cheap speaker in a controller....just sayin
