Why Not to Support the Deus Ex: Mankind Divided Pre-Order Scheme

BNR: If you’re a fan of Deus Ex, I have some great news: there’s now a release date for the hotly anticipated Deus Ex: Mankind Divided– the game is set to be released on February 23, 2016 for the Xbox One, Playstation 4 and PC. Interestingly enough, they also announced some absurd pre-order DLC scheme that’s detailed in the video embedded below.

Look at the nonsense. I never asked for this. What are these, stretch goals for pre-orders? This is a AAA game from Square Enix, not a tiny indie game on Kickstarter. If at the time you’re reading this article the video is gone, what you should know is that it lays out a pre-order scheme called “Augment Your Pre-Order” which calls upon people to pre-order the game and get rewards in the form of DLC.

WTF is this? Nobody asked for this crap.

First MGSV microtransaction crap and now this! Stop ruining our damn games!

ArchangelMike3579d ago

Yeah, I've let their comments know how I feel about the "incentive".

I'd advise everyone else to do the same.

ThePope3578d ago

Let them charge more for games and this stuff will end. It's a company trying to make money! This isn't charity. They have every right to make as much money as possible to support and feed their employees who make these amazing games.

Here's the thing, does higher price equals to more money in the devs pocket (the people who make these amazing games) or those this mean more money for the guys in black suits?

ThePope3578d ago (Edited 3578d ago )

Really? Yes if they charge more all companies involved will 100% sees Some of the profits. The developers don't get all the money now so of course they wouldn't get all of it if the prices were higher.

Clearly I need to talk slower for you. Game prices have been the same since 2005. That means for 10 years developers and publishers have been splitting that pie. But with inflation the amount they are splitting gets smaller every year while games get bigger and more costly. So if we make the pie bigger everyone gets more.

Oh and are they still eating the same sized pie?

I hate this pre order scheme. What makes it worse, if I decided to go pick up the game on day 1 or even day 2, I get nothing since I didn't pre order.

Huge Deus Ex fan, but may wait on this to see how it plays out and just pick up the ultimate edition later in the year. We'll probably start hearing about DLC or a season pass or something like that soon. Wouldn't be surprised.

Der_Kommandant3578d ago

This is like a kickstarter for pre-orders, this is out of control.

"Effort" isn't in anyone's quota anymore, it seems.

What a wasted generation.

crazychris41243578d ago

They better reverse course immediately. Just look at the linked video below. 55k+ views, 17k+ dislikes and only 220 likes. They are trending on twitter (not in a good way) and people are going crazy on other social media like forums and Youtube. Plus what are the sales targets for each tier?? They could say we never hit tier 5 even if 10 million people pre ordered. This is like Evolve all over again. Good game made by a talented team only to get screwed over by the publisher. If the game fails, guess who gets fired first?? Yea the people who made the game not the idiots who thought of this 'great' PR strategy.

It would be nice if they had the lottery in other parts of the world as well.

Why do we think this is coming out on Switch 2 before Xbox? Any thoughts? The S2 is not more powerful than the Series S so it’s not a ‘lack of power’ issue. Perhaps the sales forecast is higher on S2 than Xbox so that’s maybe where their priority lies?

jznrpg42d ago (Edited 42d ago )

It’s definitely a sales issue. If Xbox didn’t have players used to GamePass I bet it would be there already.

The fact people will buy it. Xbox gamers generally have minimal interest in this series. Portable Final Fantasy will go down a storm in Japan where the switch sells huge numbers

Hamaguchi states not just the remake but the entire FF7 remake series.

The Switch 2 version is really beautiful. It looked as good as the PS5 version.
