Lionhead Employee: Fable Legends Will Not Release on Steam

Lionhead Employee:

It will be available on Windows 10 but not on Steam.

The story is too old to be commented.
Ashlen2717d ago (Edited 2717d ago )

I didn't see that coming from a mile away nope not at all.

Microsoft forcing you to use the app store, that'll never happen.

Edited to add: When they said they were going to support Steam a month or so back I was surprised, and skeptical. This only reinforces my lack of trust about anything and everything Microsoft says.

Genuine-User2717d ago (Edited 2717d ago )

Don't forget that Fable Legends is a F2P game. Microsoft might not be too happy about giving Valve their 30% cut of all the items people can purchase.

Ashlen2717d ago

Don't make up numbers. Unless you can back up that claim.

I have read previously Steams cut is single digit and varies depending on various factors.

Kal0psia2717d ago

Of course not, why fuel the competition. Also, no problem F2p as long as it's done right and they emphasized a point of this already that the system will be along the lines of LoL and Smite, as long as gameplay is done right. I don't mind at all. More MOBAs please?!

ryuuzakibjorn2716d ago (Edited 2716d ago )

@Ashlen - Obviously, Because you sign NDA stuff, You'll never really know how much it is.

But what I can say is this: One of you is correct. And it's not you.

Source: I'm a dev. (Obviously not using my studio's name).

4Sh0w2716d ago (Edited 2716d ago )

"Microsoft forcing you to use the app store, that'll never happen."

-Oh wow Im shocked that Microsoft still prioritizes its own app store over a seperate service they dont own....because by making Windows10/apps and other games function seamless with Steam that is not supporting Steam to my satisfaction so they lied to me. Why can't Microsoft just give away everything they own? I should have known those lying mofos are still in it to make a profit. Oh the horror. /s

pinkcrocodile752716d ago

@genuine Agreed, Steam on Xbox One is a fantastic plan and something that Sony should consider too.

However that doesn't mean for a second that Microsoft has any obligation to slash its profits by releasing any of its products on steams platform.

@Ashlen A little advice, having seen the responses to your comments, All I can say is this, "If you find yourself in a hole, stop digging"

It's best not to take anything Microsoft say literally.

Water's wet, Microsoft lie.

It's the way it is.

DragonbornZ2717d ago

Hehe. I see you're back to one bubble.

gangsta_red2716d ago

You should read Rookie's response to Ashlen below and then you'll understand why what he's saying is false and why you should maybe hold off on always being so quick to bad mouth and troll Xbox articles.

NeoGamer2322717d ago

Why would they put it on Steam is a better question... It is F2P and built on the XB Live network.

Steam adds no value to this game.

Kal0psia2717d ago

Exactly, this shouldn't be surprising or deemed maliciouis in any way. It's a Windows 10 ecosystem like they stated many times already. Fable, Gears and great future titles should compete very well with steam.

neoandrew2716d ago

And yet if it is any other company u won't say "Xxx forcing you to use steam, that'll never happen."

fermcr2716d ago (Edited 2716d ago )

Your hate for Microsoft is showing. You really should take your fanboys glasses off and at least try to be objective.

Did Microsoft say that they would release all their games on Steam?
Microsoft said they would support Steam... but they would have be pretty stupid if they were fully dependable of Steam.
Support can mean something like: Steam Windows 7/8/10 compatible... or launch some games on Steam (like they are currently doing).

Microsoft have their own store, so it's natural they give preference to their business.

BTW, Steam is trying to move their games to Linux with their Steam machines. What makes you think Microsoft would fully support that?

Mrveryodd2716d ago

Why would thay put a free to play , first party game on steam . Thay would have to be idiots .
I dont think there are to many idiots at Ms Hq some how.

2716d ago
Azzanation2716d ago

Your opinion is different to mine. I play good games, I don't hold grudges against corporations. If its good ill play it. I love Steam and but there's nothing wrong with Microsofts Windows App or Xbox.

DiRtY2716d ago

Damn you Microsoft for supporting your own platform and not the competition... What's next? Halo 5 won't be on Playstation?

FlexLuger2717d ago

I am not even remotely surprised. Its their IP so they can make it available where they want. And if you have yur own storefront why the hell not make it exclusive to your storefront?

Ashlen2717d ago

Because only weeks prior they said they wouldn't do that. But I guess if you're all up in Microsoft's behind lying doesn't even phase you.

FlexLuger2717d ago (Edited 2717d ago )

"But I guess if you're all up in Microsoft's behind lying doesn't even phase you." doesnt phase me because I was getting for XB1 anyway. It doesnt phase me because I dont work for valve. But yeah..your pointless reasoning to my comment makes perfect sense too...I must be up MSS ass, If I dont care that they are not publishing their games on rival service.I didnt care when they said they were going to support steam...was I up MSS then, too?

Why so butthurt? Not like I dont have a shit load of steam games myself....

But yes you are right...companies should put games on rival would be so bad if they pissed you off, right?

Lighter92716d ago

::cough:: Bethesda ::cough::

Ashlen2717d ago (Edited 2717d ago )

I think you miss my point.

They said they were going to support Steam.

Microsoft: 'Our goal right now isn't to do anything else other than support Steam'

Then they lied.

I am not angry that they are putting their games on their app store. As I said in the first post I was surprised they said they were going to support Steam.

What I am angry about is the bold face lie it was to say they were going to support Steam.

Yes, when people lie it does make me angry.

And as you planned on buying it on Xbox, I never had any plan to buy it even if it was on Steam.

FlexLuger2717d ago (Edited 2717d ago )

"What I am angry about is the bold face lie it was to say they were going to support Steam."

*sigh*.... get over it. Not like they been moving mountains for PC gamers these last few years. And given that you said yourself that you dont trust them and expect as much....why are you surprised and then angered about it?

Just let it go. Not like you cant play the game on PC. But as you said you were not buying this anyway...which makes this whole exchange pointless. You wont be buying any MS publish games on steam. I dont recall them ever saying that would be the case. And it should be pretty obvious that the only place to buy an Ms publish game would be on there own store front..thats common business sense.

"Yes, when people lie it does make me angry. "

Its a computer game dude, not your woman. MS dont owe you anything. especially when its YOU who got your wires twisted.Get out more. Things like this should not anger you so easily.

Rookie_Monster2717d ago (Edited 2717d ago )

your blatant hate for anything MS is so strong that it is not even funny anymore as "supporting" Steam is not like putting their games on it but just technical supporting it at a full 100% on Windows 10. Smh

Here is the important transcripted quote from that Destuctoid article which you either purposely twisted around or got confused with. My bet is on the former.

"Kevin Unangst, senior director for PC gaming of MS states, "We are not intending to compete with Steam. If anything, we want Steam to be even more successful – they’ve done great things for PC gamers in terms of having a single store.Over time do we want more developers to come over to our store and offer it in addition to Steam? Absolutely. Is competition good for people? Absolutely. But our goal right now isn't to do anything else other than support Steam and help it run great on Windows 10."

Lol, MS was talking about supporting them as to help them run great on Windows 10, it got nothing to do with MS putting games on it.

Also, You do know Games like Fable, Gears Ultimate, AND KI season 3 are all cross playable and on some cases, cross buy with the XB1 version, right, due to XBox app on Windows 10? How is that possible on steam?

ScorpiusX2716d ago

Question is where they specific on what kind of support , if no direct indication is mentioned then it can be anything they deem or consider support .

Azzanation2716d ago

It doesn't take Rocket science to realize your angry. MS have been supporting Steam since the day Steam was created. Windows and Steam are the perfect gaming combo. Also MS released 2 Halo games on Steam, Spartan Assault and Spartan Strike, if that's not showing enough support giving a competitive app your primary franchise mascot then nothing will. That's not including all the MS games already available on Steam.

I game 90% on Steam and I can speak for myself that there's nothing wrong with supporting both.

pinkcrocodile752716d ago

@castilo Have you read the article that Rookie made crystal clear for all, they are supporting steam on windows 10.

For those with poor reading / comprehension skills, he is saying as rookie pointed out, that Microsoft will support steam on windows 10. That is all, nothing else!

Ashlen2717d ago

Trust me I know the difference between real life and internet. I am "internet angry".

And clearly I did expect as much. Which is why I don't buy or support Microsoft products.

gangsta_red2717d ago

Ashlen, do you also have a link that says MS was specifically going to put Fable Legends on Steam?

What difference does it make if this game comes to Steam? Is there a difference how you go about purchasing the game on PC?

HeavenFall2717d ago

Liar! you're probably using Windows to type that up.

Activemessiah2717d ago

They can shove their windows 10.

DanzoSAMA2716d ago

in 3 weeks Windows 10 Now on 75 Million Devices

Genova842716d ago

I wonder if that still counts my pc which I reverted to windows 7 on Sunday. Going to say it does!

4Sh0w2715d ago

That hardly matters what YOU -one individual has done. Those are tremendous #'s, it's like 1 guy on n4g saying he brought a ps4 and returned it, so what? Sony ps4 sales are unchanged and unless YOU or I have something to suggests this is a huge trend what 1 individual customer does really has no bearing on what the masses are doing.

WackoDaSniper2717d ago

There going to lose much money, us PC gamers use Steam only when possible for a reason...

FlexLuger2717d ago

"us PC gamers "

Speak for yourself..and maybe the small number of core steam users of which less than half have a descent enough rig to even play a game at satisfactory settings. Ill buy PC games wherever I get the best deal.

And given that W10 is already in tens of millions of PCs..all of which have that store front and center, giving all those people access to fable legends for FREE..I dont think they will lose out much.

Spyroo2717d ago

I'm a pc gamer too but I use gog and other services. You don't speak for everyone.

2716d ago
sephiroth4202717d ago

ahwell i was gonna torrent it anyway

Rookie_Monster2717d ago
