Until Dawn review: A full-fledged horror movie in a slick interactive format | Post Arcade

Until Dawn proves that every narrative-first game doesn’t have to be an art-house masterwork — sometimes it’s just fine that it’s a gripping escapist confection.

The Supermassive Games developed title is an interactive horror-movie clearly influenced by Quantic Dreams’ Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls. However, it’s Heavy Rain or Beyond if they were made by talented work-for-hire journeymen instead of an inconsistent auteur. Nothing in Until Dawn is as narratively ambitious as, say, the 90 minute section of Beyond where you had to scrounge for food while living on the streets, but also nothing is quite as goofy as — oh most of the rest of the stuff in both those games.
