It may not have originally been a Mario game, but Super Mario Bros. 2 is still one of the finest examples of old school 2D platforming.

Always thought the American Mario 2 was underrated. I like it more than the original Super Mario Bros. now.

But Mario Bros 3 is much better and Super Mario World is/was just next level, I'd pick both of them over Mario 2 any day it's not a terrible game tho just different.

Loved that game. I liked it more than "normal" marios.

Even a Mario games (such as this) falling way below expectations is still better than 99.9% of 'platformers' even today. Nowhere near the best 2D Mario game but still a very, very good Mario games and an expectational 2D platformer.

It is the weakest Mario game in the series. Average at best.

not really, it was a good paltformer, had great music, good sound fx, and was unique and different enough to make it stand out.

Also the ability to use 4 different characters who actually played differently added some replay value to the game.

name a weaker mario game in the series then.

@Movieworld: I always considered New Super Mario Bros. 2 on the 3DS to be one of the weakest in the franchise. It was good, no doubt, but it was a tired sequel. Super Mario Bros. 2 on the NES was far more creative and memorable.
