I'm getting about 10-12 hrs on the default battery. this sounds like a good idea; but, this battery has to be bigger. I haven't looked; but, will this one fit in the space the original battery occupies?

1nsomniac3593d ago

10-12 hours? Are you sure you haven't upgraded the battery already?

I've had mine replaced 4 times due to worn thumb sticks & shoulder buttons. Battery wise they've all been consistent at around 6 hours. If these batteries work & fit, it's a great idea.

Ratty3593d ago

Around 6 hours seems to be it for me too. I never had to replace anything though. It's worn out in places and one of the buttons sometimes gets stuck but I haven't any of that.

nucky643593d ago

"I've had mine replaced 4 times due to worn thumb sticks & shoulder buttons" - yikes! what are you doing to your controller? I've had mine for a year and a half - no issues other than I'm not a fan of the tiny port for the charge cord nor do I like the size or location of the options button.
any way, I must have a "special" battery or something. when I was starting bloodborne, I could play from 1 or 2 pm to midnight and not have to recharge.

paul-p19883593d ago

6hrs is the same for me too. What makes it seem even worse is that I regularly go between my PS4 and PS3 (still finishing off loads of games before I store my PS3 somewhere) and I have to charge my PS4 control at least once a week, but my PS3 control gets charged about once a month, even though I use both for almost the same amount of time each week.

That light bar drains the battery and I don't even use it!!

medman3593d ago (Edited 3593d ago )

I bought a second controller to compensate for the poor battery life, and these have saved my sticks...

http://www.amazon.com/gp/pr...

They're great....they're inexpensive, they don't slip off, as some others do, and the grip/feel is much better than the original grips that are on the ds4 controller.

IamTylerDurden13593d ago (Edited 3593d ago )

Worn out shoulder buttons? Heh? Wha?

I turn the light bar to the dimmest setting and i get 6+ hours on action games and 8-9 on less intensive games.

Even with Everybody's Gone to the Rapture i get 8 hours. Works for me considering i have 2 controllers and simply swap them when they die.

It's easy, whenever your DS4 dies put it on the charger and take the fully charged DS4 off the charge. Pretty simple...

Mr Logic3593d ago

Do you use headphones? Every time I see someone get really bad DS4 battery they're using headphones which drain quite a bit.

Tankz10003593d ago

Dude, that sucks! What's the controller made from? Also the battery life is stupid. ATM I brought a rechargable xbox1 pack and it lasts me about eight or so hours play and the sticks are fine, I remember however my xbox360's sticks were worn all the way down.

wsoutlaw873593d ago

new ds4 sticks cost like 4$. Why are so many people scared of a screw driver.

Also did people not know about these batteries already. I put new batteries in my ds3 also

PSIN4MANT3593d ago

You know you can spend like 3 bucks for a set of new thumbgrips right?

3592d ago
dantesparda3592d ago

Yeah, my first DS4's analog thumb sticks wore out in 6 days! But I kept it til almost the end of the warranty (so almost 12 months) then I got it replaced by them (Sony). And the replacements have been fine ever since, so like 9 months laters.

1nsomniac3592d ago (Edited 3592d ago )

I don't pay for my replacements Sony does. They've publicly admitted they made a mistake with the sticks so they'll replace controllers free of charge. They've also admitted personally to me that the shoulder button spring is the second biggest issue they have with the controller.

After sending the forth one back I got fed up of the hassle of it all so bought some grips. One of my current controllers still has a slightly dodgy L1 button though.

I would consider buying an upgraded battery but again it's not something you want to buy as some dodgy cheap Chinese import.

It says the dimensions are exactly the same as the old battery's.

That said, I wouldnt purchase this battery since its only 5$ and comes with a micro USB cable.... to me that says enough about the quality of the battery.

If you are going to do a battery swap, I would at least spend a decent amount of money (for 2000 mAh battery, you should be able to get a quality one for 10$) so by some bad luck you arent getting a bad one and end up breaking your controller.

Also, no way you are getting 10-12 hours with a stock battery. Maybe a couple of extra hours if you have disabled all the vibrations and such features.

Angeljuice3593d ago

The stock battery is capable of going 10-12 hours depending on the game you play.

An action game is non-stop high speed inputs, but some strategy games have very few inputs in comparison.

I can get 12 hours with Tropico 5, but only 6 with DriveClub.

IamTylerDurden13593d ago

U can absolutely get 10hrs with a non intensive game that doesn't use or lightly uses rumble. Also, u should dim the light bar to the lowest setting.

TWB3593d ago

@Angeljuice & @IamTylerDurden1
I find it slightly odd that the amount of input would have so drastic impact on battery life (doubling it)

I think Alien Isolation is one of those games in my collection that should drain the battery less? I mean, sometimes you just sit and wait the alien to pass by, think about managing your resources and walk around.

I personally havent seen a difference with battery life between games.

wsoutlaw873593d ago

these batteries are probably made at the same place that supplies sony. Or somewhere very similar. How much do you think sony pays for a ds4 battery?

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 3593d ago
nitus103593d ago

The battery looks similar to the one you can put in the DS3 and you can get the 1800mAh one for about the same price.

What you do need to know is the dimensions of the battery and if it is the same as the DS4's 1000mah battery then it is just a drop in replacement. The voltage of controllers appears to be the same which is 3.70V (DS3) and 3.65V (DS4).

There is a problem though. It is always "buyer beware" since you need to be confident that the battery you are getting is not a counterfeit.

Another thing to be aware of is that you need to open up your DS4 to replace the battery and while it is not that difficult some people especially those who have never pulled apart and reassembled something like the DS4.

For people who have limited technical capability they are better off getting two controllers or an extra long 5m USB to micro USB cable (cost a few dollars) or an external battery pack that you would normally use to charge your mobile phone (about $20 to $30).

vickers5003593d ago

I did that cord thing, bought 2 entirely different extra long micro usb cords. One stopped working within a week, the other in a month. Probably something about the weight of the cord combined with the awkward angle of the charging port. So I'd say that's not a very good solution. At least not a dollar or two solution, probably just have to buy a more expensive, higher quality microusb cord for that to work as a solution.

MeliMel3593d ago

You're getting 10-12hrs? How long do you game a day? Not being funny, I got about 6-7hrs. I get a good week and a half on Xbox One using rechargeables. I know people like embedded batteries but I like the option of using my own.

nucky643593d ago

most of the time I game about 2 to 3 hrs at a time. if it's a good game, i'll play much longer.
hey, I can't explain it. I've heard your side that people are getting 6-7 and I've heard others getting what I get. I can't explain it.
really, the only reason I posted a comment to begin with is wondering if this battery would fit in the space left by the default battery. I really wasn't trying to anything else. however, the guy above who says he's had to replace his controller 4 times?? I don't believe that at all....nobody could be that abusive to a controller, could they?

MeliMel3593d ago

Yeah if Im gaming its usually a good while at a time. Sundays I games from like 630am
To 1pm...so the battery never lasted me long.

b_one3593d ago

it has to be fake, there is no room for more capacity in same shaped battery.

showtimefolks3593d ago

I am getting pretty good battery life as is. I don't know but I charge my controllers regularly, I have nto had any issue with battery life this gen

The_BlackHeart__3593d ago

I dim the light bar, turn off the vibration from device settings and the battery is at 10-12 for me.

Spyroo3593d ago

Goto system settings and turn down Lightbar setting from Original to Dim. Saves another hour :)

Strikepackage Bravo3593d ago

What is needed is for someone to come up with a way to turn off that stupid LED and useless touchpad, that's got to be good for a few hours of battery life.

wsoutlaw873593d ago (Edited 3593d ago )

they are roughly the same size but a higher capacity battery will be just slightly thicker and heavier.. These batteries are not sony specific and are a standard size.

Clunkyd3593d ago

I bought one of these batteries about 5 months ago, There was hardly any difference.

Seraphim3592d ago

still don't see how people are only getting 6 hours out of their controller. Only time I run into an issue is when I play from 2 until 9am. I'd say I easily get a good 12 hours out of each charge. Sticks are still in great shape, buttons good. Unlike the DS3 that seemed to always have an issue with L2 [loose] the triggers are great on the DS4. Only thing worn is the stupid sticker on the back. And it doesn't matter what game I'm playing I get a good 12 hours plus. Bloodborne, Dark Souls 2, Assassins Creed, Destiny, Diablo 3, etc.

Maybe those who get low battery life are using a plug in headset, sitting 30' away from the tv, have the lightbar and sound cranked up all the way, idk. I certainly like the idea of having the ability to upgrade the battery and wish there were more options for replacing the buttons, sticks and triggers but when it comes to battery life stock is suffice & when it's not pull out the spare for a while.

nucky643592d ago (Edited 3592d ago )

you too with the ps3 L2? I had to take my controller apart and fix that problem. I wasn't sure I'd get it back together - but I did!

on battery life: maybe distance from the ps4 is a factor. I have a sony 65 inch 4k tv and sit about 6 feet away to get the "full effect, so to speak. maybe that's why I get good battery life. I hadn't thought about distance as being a factor - interesting.

edit: oh, have a bubble for "interesting"!

AndrewLB3592d ago

You must have been playing The Order 1886 or a similar game that's basically one big QTE.

As for the battery itself, I'd be highly cautious of any lithium-ion battery for that kind of money. Lithium-Ion batteries contain huge amounts of power for their size and it's really not worth saving a few bucks when you end up burning your house down. Cheap batteries lack proper robust protection circuitry and are well known to start fires. Just ask the guys on candlepowerforums.com and e-cigaretteforums.com

Or just check these out...

chinese batteries in vaporizer set car ablaze...

http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/...

What would be great if they were smart and designed a controller using the very common 18650 lithium-ion battery because they are barely larger than a AA battery and hold 3400mah. 18650's are also found in most laptop battery packs, cordless drill batteries, and vape setups.

Battery has a typo, that alone makes me feel it'll blow up my DS4 to the moon.

WalterWJR3593d ago

I'm quite sure you can replace the PS4 battery with a battery from a PS3 or PS vita which is double the capacity whilst still being kind of official.

madmonkey013593d ago

the ds3 battery has a much lower capacity.

lemoncake3593d ago

Cheap tacky battery, should I place you in my controller...

Lol, maybe I'm becoming an old fart, but excessive violence in VR seems to bother me more than in flat games. Feels more visceral when you're looking a person in the eyes before mutilating them.

By no means am I trying to be a prude and saying these games shouldn't exist. I just play them more sparingly, need more breaks. I need some beautiful, refreshing & relaxing VR experiences too to balance them out so I don't feel so heavy.
