I completely agree. The blokes in their head office need a damn spanking, the arrogant bastard fools. Conceited, holier-than-thou S.O.B.s to boot.

Swiftfox5746d ago

EA was responsable for the port, so they are largly to blame for the PS3 copy of the Orange Box.

However, I think Valve is equally to blame for not even attempting to develop for the PS3 in the first place.

IzKyD13315746d ago (Edited 5746d ago )

exactly, valve is a really good PC developer, you'd think they'd have an open mind when it comes to console gaming.....but they only develop for the console that is most similar to the PC, anything different is apparently a waste of their time

Charmers5746d ago

So what is wrong with that ? You can name quite a few developers that will only produce games on Sony's platform. At least Valve tried to come up with some way for the PS3 owners to experience the game.

I would bet any money if the Xbox 360 had been as alien as the PS3 is to develop then Valve wouldn't have bothered with the 360 either. Valve are primarily a PC developer end of story.

What I am noticing is PS3 owners do seem to whine an awful lot when there system is "excluded" from games, but they are quite happy to keep THEIR exclusives. It's as if they want their cake and eat it too.

Some developers don't want to develop on the PS3, just like some developers don't want to develop on the 360, get used to it.

m-s-8-25746d ago (Edited 5746d ago )

You seem to not understand the difference.

IF they had decided to not port it to ps3 at all, that's one thing. To have the game ported by someone else, put their name on it, make money, and then not address the numerous issues in the game is something completely different.

Charmers5746d ago

@ 2.3 and if they had decided not to do a PS3 version we would be continually hearing PS3 users moaning and whinging that it isn't fair the game is on the PC and Xbox 360 it should be on the PS3 as well.

The fact is Valve at least TRIED to bring the game to the PS3 in the most economical way possible for them which is more than can be said for Sony exclusive developers that don't even try to bring their games to any other format except Sony's.

m-s-8-25746d ago

You can suppose people would complain all you want to if there was no ps3 port, it's still irrelevant. The port was made, and it was complete garbage. Either do a thing right, or don't do it at all. As it is, they just screwed over their consumers.

m-s-8-25746d ago

"which is more than can be said for Sony exclusive developers that don't even try to bring their games to any other format except Sony's."

I don't understand why you keep bringing this part up, either. What does one have to do with the other?

Charmers5746d ago

and there were plenty of reviews out that highlighted the problems with the PS3 version of the game. If you didn't take the time to inform yourself regarding a $60 purchase then you have no one to blame but yourself. Crappy ports HAPPEN they happen on all systems, yet because the PS3 got a crappy port then it has to be flooded all over the net every single day.

As for why I keep mentioning PS3 exclusive developers, well Valve prefers PC architecture and that gets thrown in there face all the time. However no one throws the same crap at Insomniac which seems to prefer cell architecture. I do not see Insomniac bringing any games out for any other architecure except the Cell.

For the record, the numerous previews did prevent me from buying this game. You're right, crappy ports happen and will continue to, though i dont see why you, as a gamer, would defend one. The issue is due to Valve giving support to the versions of the game for PC and XBOX, but ignoring the PS3. It's a big "we have your money, now piss off" situation. Unacceptable.

The reason Insomniac doesn't work on games for other consoles is because of a contract they have with Sony. It has nothing to do with preference of one format over another, whether or not one exists in their case. It's a business decision, and one that has been very lucrative for them. Then again, this still has NOTHING to do with the Orange Box situation.

*edit* removed a somewhat insulting comment after thinking twice about it. it made about as much sense as this guy.

IzKyD13315746d ago

valve had NOTHING to do with the PS3 version of the game, if it were their decision, it wouldnt have come to the PS3 at all, but EA made the port....quit acting like valve "tried" when they didnt, you dont think one of the best PC devs couldnt figure out how to develop for something new?
everyone else in the industry did...

Diamondwolf5745d ago

I like how you can generalize everyone on the PS3 poorly like the way that you did. So let me get this straight, PS3 owners complained about Bioshock, Gears of War, Halo, Viva Piñata, and all other xbox exclusives? Last I heard they didn't so that pretty much negates your comment about that.

Now your Either PC or Xbox fanboyism sticks out to the fact that you aren't taking it the other way. My turn to be a little like you. What I've noticed is that PS3 owners are "whining" because xbox owners are "over-gloaters" and "high and mighty" crowd. Both are equally retarded to me, but w/e floats your boat right.

But here's the difference between me and you. I can recognize that the roles are reversed when things are in Sony's favor, then x-boxers are "whiners" and PS3 owners are "over-gloaters"

Did you see what I did there? Nice wasn't it. Get over yourself and have a wonderful day :)

Diamondwolf5745d ago

I forgot to mention something else. I don't need someone elses opinion to tell me whether I should buy a game or not. That's one thing about this generation that pisses me off is that there are so many sheep and not enough shepherds. Reviews tend to be different than what I experience when I play a game because I'm not worried about the differences on which ever system I decide to buy it on. If it runs, and it's tolerable, I'm going to have fun. I'm not going to concentrate on the framerate issues or anti-aliasing that the review made me pay attention to which I would have otherwise overlooked had I not been made aware of it.

I dont understand why this is still a big deal. Valve is lame, without half life they are nothing. HALF life 3 will come out we will cheer how good it is, then valve will never have anything that pop again. They dont like PS3 arch, they are PC MS friendly, let em.
This topic is so dead, Valve is done.

tatotiburon5746d ago

so insomniac games without resistance are nothing? yes they have Ratchel as vale have Portal and Team Fortress....and guerrilla are nothing without Killzone 2??

Damphear5746d ago

people should of learned when cs 1.6 came out. VALE AND STEAM are the worst game devs in the world.

i mean look how fat and lazy gabe is.

"i never codded that many lines of code in my life and im not going to now"

Thread is now locked. Thread owner BurtonJ just ignored the his own thread.

cheetorb5746d ago

Can anyone tell me if the issues that the Orange Box has are related to just the online play only or is it that the whole thing plays bad? Thanks.

Rich16315746d ago

Random frame rate dips and longer load times than the 360 & PC versions throughout Portal, Half Life 2 and the episodes on the PS3. However, Team Fortress 2 is a complete disaster. It lags horribly, drops connections, has tons of visual glitches like clipping, hovering objects etc., long load times, sudden death launches randomly, no DLC, no patches or balances/upgrades like the 360 and PC. So yeah, it is crap. Don't buy it.

Shankle5746d ago

You haven't been playing the same game I have mate. The game is fine. I still play TF2 on occasion.

How Valve released five of its greatest games in a single day

The year is 2007. Console owners tap their fingers in barely contained impatience. For years they have been starved of Valve's delicious, full-bodied courses, forced to watch from the bleachers as Valve mixes a unique blend of kinetic first-person with extraordinary tech. Besides a brief dalliance with the original Xbox and the PlayStation 2 - which produce pale imitations of its best work - Valve has remained faithful to the PC.

And then, in a flash, five of them arrive at once; neatly packaged morsels for a new generation reared on Microsoft's & later Sony's consoles. Five games, all in one orange box. Valve serves the PC too, for it is October 18 - a day of celebration - and everyone should feast.

Man 2007 was a great year for gaming.

OpenGL2379d ago

Valve didn't really "release" 5 of its greatest games in a single day, Half-Life 2 came out 3 years before The Orange Box. In no other context do we talk about a port being the "release" of a game.

2379d ago
Fist4achin2379d ago

The orange box was an excellent release. I don't think Valve will do much beyond online only games now.

AuraAbjure2379d ago

Thanks for making the source 2 game engine valve it's legit.

pwnsause_returns2388d ago

shut up valve....give me HL3....

Back when Valve made a lot of great titles

-Foxtrot2386d ago

Little cheeky to talk about it when you know we're still waiting for Half Life 3...the Orange Box included Episode 2 and is still left unfinished story wise to this day.

At this rate we better get a second Orange Box. Half Life 3, Half Life Remake (Black Mesa Mod), TF3 or L4D3 and the HL spin offs like Blue Shift.

Reefskye2386d ago (Edited 2386d ago )

Don't know what valve are going to do with Half Life after Mike Laidlaw posted the short version of Episode 3 in August and changed the names and genders.
