Video games are a visual medium, and how a game looks on screen can go a long way to creating a joyful experience for gamers. But looks only matter for a small part of what makes a good game, and even decent gameplay — in theory — can elevate a mediocre game higher. But what happens when a great looking game has poor play control? That answer is Abyss Odyssey: Extended Dream Edition from developer ACE Team and publisher Atlus.

Got a Vita for christmas in addition to some psn cards. Was hoping for at least a few PSP/PSOne Classics for cheap. Oh well.
Abyss Odyssey: Extended Dream Edition by developer Ace Team is a 2D action platformer where the player takes control of Katrien, a free-thinking, imaginary warrior that derives from the twisted mind of an evil warlock. Destined to battle the evil that conjured her, Katrien must enter the abyss to confront the unthinkable horrors that dwell beneath.

Roguelike games are pretty far out of my gameplay norm – particularly action roguelikes. I tend more toward turn-based strategy or hack & slash games. And yet, I always seem to find roguelikes hard to put down! Whenever I start one, I wonder if I'm just getting lucky, and starting Abyss Odyssey: Extended Dream Edition was no exception to that rule. Now that I'm done with it, I think I got lucky yet again, because I'm writing the review and still thinking about going back for one more game.
