Akia from PC Gaming Enthusiast delivers his video review of Nom Nom Galaxy. The game is the next installment in the PixelJunk series from Q-Games.
The PVATOT (Playing Videogames and Talking Over Them) are back with this week's instalment: a swift journey through February's PS+ offerings on PlayStation 4. The guys give their initial impressions of Nom Nom Galaxy, Nova 111 and Helldivers.
PS4Home: "So, let’s take a look at some of the better free-to-play games."
PLANETSIDE 2 deserves a hard unbiased try by any and all shooter players in PS4. especially now since its been patched a few times.

This month you can protect Super Earth in an intergalactic war while feeding soup to aliens! Presenting your free PS Plus games for February on PS4.
Set in a satirical and dystopian future, Helldivers offers chaotic combat against three invading enemy species. This top-down shooter focuses heavily on teamwork, as squads battle to become Heroes of the Federation. So grab your friends and take on the invaders — just be sure to watch out for friendly fire!
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax is a great fighter, i highly recommend it to anyone.
The story sucks though.
What a waste potential, even DAN have a good story. But hey, wont complain since its free :)
I'd be lying if I said I am dissapointed with this months offerings. That's because I had zero expectations and have had so for a long time now. PS+ offerings are literally garbage now, only redeeming factor is Dirt on the PS3.
@thekhurg
Who is this "someone"? I think you got the wrong guy lol
@Koyes
At this point, plus is to play online on PS4, the free indie games is like the tissues you get after eating a meal at restaurant lol
@koyes and @MegaRay
You two do both realize Helldivers is a Sony published and owned IP, right? So not indie...
@Gority
I judge games based on the game's look and content, not who publish it. I choose the word "indie" which is a poor choice of words, I meant low budget.
Helldivers to Sony is like Child of Light to Ubisoft. It is has an indie budget/developer but published by a big publisher.
I'm on board with your comment as referring to small scale games, but that's just not what indie games are. There are big budget indie titles out there too. We don't want to give the indie scene a bad rep by referring to every small game as an indie title.
@Gority
Yeah, it just a habit for me to call small budget games Indies, but I dont call games like Oddworld or Rocket League indie, even tho they are, and im sure im not the only one xD
Very good selection this month!! I'm happy to be a playstation plus member! Can't wait to play Persona 4 Arena again.
I have Persona 4 Arena but never bought Ultimax. I enjoyed P4 Arena so I'm glad this was added to IGC. I'll be playing Gravity Rush Remastered also,the dynamic theme I got with it is very nice too.
Agh. I'll try them, like always, but I'm always so let down. 2D indies just aren't my thing, albeit with a few notable exceptions. I reall expected something more now that we're in the third year of the console cycle. I mean, I'd even be happy with "Thief" or the GoW3 remaster or Knack or Killzone SF.
My favorite ps+ so far was definitely outlast and walking dead season 2. Stick it to the man was brilliant. Grow home was cool. Rocket League is excellent. I know there's others I was happy with - Trine 2 was cool in 3D, but aside from them, nothing is sticking out for me. And I download and try them every single month too, no matter how disappointed my initial reaction might be.
As a dad, my little one is getting big fast and I think she might enjoy some of the 2D ones once she gets a little better with a controller and her timing. Only 4 but she already loves video games!
Xbl gold and ps+ been s'in sum d's. Also outlast is a fantastic game.
Also pissed towerfall ascension isn't on Xbox yet. X(
P4 Arena Ultrimax is a good pick!
I'm fine with they story being meh though considering it is a fighting game.
Hmm.. Helldivers it is then. I actually wanted to try this one out, so I am excited to download this one for the upcoming month.
The remaining PS4/Vita titles, while artistically impressive and unique, don't fit with my gaming tastes, so I will respectfully pass on those ones.
Enjoy everyone.
Same here, except not as respectfully lol. Vita gets shafted half the time, we got lucky with a Cross-Buy game this time at least. Only good games they gave specifically for Vita was Killzone and then Freedom Wars. Not exactly $50 material here.
The edition of Helldivers includ es the free Democracy Strikes Back expansion. Great game.
oh really? If that is the case, then nothing for me.
Why give me a free expansion pack if I have to buy the main game?
@neonridr
i think you read that comment wrong. the free democracy strikes back expansion IS included with the main game. if you go to the store you will only see the 20 dollars helldivers Democracy Strikes Back game which include some other dlc packs, and the complete ultimate edition which includes all dlc, some theme and another thing cant remember what for 40 dollars
@neoridr:
you've misunderstood. he's saying that you get the game, and the expansion with this offering. they have never just handed out a DLC expansion that required you to purchase the full game.
woooow. Now this is an awesome month.
Looking forward to try out Helldivers and Nom Nom Galaxy and see what I missed by not buying Persona 4 Arena Ultimax before.
I think he/she means that all the offerings are typically four years old, not that they have only collected for four years.
Too bad Vita got shafted again. Lemmings Touch? Is that a joke? Nova-111 is another throw away title but not in the same s*** league as f***ing Lemmings. Why no Visual Novels or something? For real...
Helldivers is the only thing worth grabbing.
If you want a visual novel, the best thing to do is...yeah, you know what's coming, huh...BUY ONE!
Seriously, if they gave away your most wanted game, the next guy would be on here whining, "WAHHH, I hate visual novels!"
Just buy what you like and consider these PS+ games a bonus, none of us get to choose. :)
Except VITA also gets the Awesome Helldivers as well. I'm still playing Castle Storm and Rocket Birds, good games. Also, VITA just Bastion and OddWorld New n Tasty free if u had them on PS4. I'm stacked on VITA.
Yeah, but they never are. Even if this month was Fallout 4 and Black Ops 3, still people would complain. It's called greed...
The people that already own the games would complain. The ones that would be happy are the ones that are interested in the games and/or genre. When the games offered are niche games they appeal to a smaller audience than mainstream games. When it's an indie niche game it not only has the smaller audience, it also has less perceived value than a traditional console game.
so I should be excited for a game that doesn't fall into my play styles at all?
I would love to know the reasons why I have to enjoy every single game they offer me regardless of what genre that game may fall under.
@Neon
No you don't have to be excited for a game if it's not your style.
but you don't have to be pissed off every time they give you a game you don't like either. Every month there's a flood of these looking like a bunch of entitled 5 year-olds having temper tantrums.
@ neon
You don't have to enjoy anything, but the constant whining and salty comments is getting old. A lot of people here asking for AAA games like Killzone or Infamous.
Those games are like 10$ now used or new, get a job or stop complaining. Games llike KZ was a launch game which came with my ps4 ( nov 2013)
I get it, Sony gives a lot of indies, which 90% is crap. But januari and next month where/are not that bad. If people don't like the "free" games, then don't download them. Stop behaving like greedy little children
@uth11
Exactly
End rage..
I dunno if people would complain if Black ops 3 and Fallout 4 were free tbh.
well as you could see from my comment above, I wasn't complaining about the offerings. I shared my opinion as to the bulk of the games falling under genres that don't really suit me. I don't have a PS3 so I am limited to the PS4 and Vita offerings.
It has nothing to do with greed. It has to do with your hopes and expectations. If all I am being offered is puzzle games or platformers, but I was a sports guy or shooter guy I would be disappointed. Why does nobody have a right to not be happy with something that they are helping to pay for anyways?
What ever happened to the voting a game? At least then I get a little control towards helping a game that maybe I would like to see show up as a PS+ title. That lasted all of what, 2 months?
I get that we are getting games that we may not normally play and I personally have come across some hidden gems, but some people are simply voicing their opinions. And as paying customers, they have every right to say that they are happy or disappointed.
Eh, I don't know. Sure some would. But I remember in the pre PS4 days Playstation gamers always bragged about the IGC.
Happiness has nothing to do with it.
The offering is either good or it isn't. I think educated adults can realize when an offering is good regardless of their tastes.
It is actually a solid month, not for me bc i own Helldivers, but overall it's a strong month.
Helldivers is awesome and u get it on all 3 systems.
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax is a well received game that goes for $30 at gs.
Nom Nom is the next Pixel-Junk game and i'm extremely interested in it.
Grid Autosport is a pretty new AAA PS3 racing game, well received.
Nova-111 is a newer game, i'll try it but nothing that excites me.
Lemmings Touch, meh.
Pretty solid.
They look good, but what ever happened to the guy named Clements who would announce the full PS3, PS4 and Ps Vita ps plus games?
It's getting annoying buying games in a sale only for them to be announced next month on plus.
Helldivers is a nice surprise, I've heard great things about it so it'll be nice to finally give it a go.
Helldivers will be the game to get next month but other than that the rest of the offerings are....meh.
Helldivers is phenomenal, but Persona 4 Aerna Ultimax is a terrific game and it's not 8yrs old, it's also $30 at gs. Grid Autosport is a pretty new AAA racer, Nom Nom is the next Pixel-Junk game. That's not "meh" imo.
Persona is excellent
Grid is quality AAA
If u like Pixel-Junk and/or Terraria you'll like Nom Nom, it is a Pixel Junk game.
More persona is always welcome, I've heard surprisingly good stuff about Helldivers aswell can't wait to try it out!
Only Helldivers and Persona 4 Arena interest me here, so it's a good lineup
I don't understand the disdain for Nom Nom? It's a Pixel Junk game, it plays like a mix between Terraria, a strategy game, and Tower defense. I'm psyched.
I'll never forgive me for not adding Retro City Rampage, especially now that it's crossbuy on PS4 and VITA.
I should do that really, just so many I haven't touched or played once and didn't like.
yeah like EnsignHiro says, you can just add them to your basket but never download them. They will remain free moving forward and if for some reason you decide to want to try one, it's there for you to give it a go.
Not a great month, can't say I'm not disappointed, but I will say this - try them. What do you have to lose? There has been a few times where I thought the month was crap yet I loved the offering after playing it. Stick it to the Man is an excellent example
We have time to lose, that's what. I could be playing AAA games or good lower tier games over the 1001st retro inspired Indy game....
I know within 5 minutes whether I'll continue playing or not. If I don't like it, it gets deleted.
And as far as time management goes, there's nobody with less time to lose than myself. I have a full time career managing a team of salespeople. Also have a wife and 4 year old daughter. My 2-3 gaming hours that I get per day, if I'm lucky, are not wasted. And I have more games (AAA) in my backlog than I can finish in any reasonable amount of time.
So you can hate and whine all day, or, try the game, judge it on its merits instead of title and screenshot, and if you don't like it, then definitely resume hating and whining because that's what's going to change things, if anything will
I hear you.. I have a PS4 and a Wii U along with a wife, a job and a 3.5 year old son. I am lucky if I get an hour a night. To be honest, the bulk of my gaming on my PS4 is done via my Vita on Remote Play while lying in bed.
Thankfully I just got The Witness to keep me occupied.
So Helldivers, Grid, and Persona are retro inspired wastes of time? If u think that ur in the minority. Solid games.
That list for ps4 is very disappointing. Ps4 has been out for a few years so why sony doesnt put AAA games on the list is beyond me.
I agree... There is no longer the argument anymore than the system is new so AAA games shouldn't be on plus.
Jeez I can't believe Knack hasn't been on ps + or Killzone or other launch titles
Every since plus became a requirement to game online... Sony hasn't really put up anything stellar for the ps4
Except it is still a valid arguement. PS+ didn't launch with PS3. It came some years later and still took time to get rolling. The PS3 had more than a three year head start on PS+.
I'll never understand corporate apologists. Consumers have every right to complain. I usually find a silver lining on each list, but I have a Vita, PS3 and a PS4.
Nevertheless, I encqourage respondents to speak their mind. It is concerning to see how many contributers so willingly drink the kool aid. Businesses need to be taken to task in order to prevent complacency. I'm a Sony guy but refuse to deify them. Complain or celebrate but keep it in perspective gamer nation.
Meh, These games fulfill niches I do not sub too. Nothing wrong with that, I have a major back log to get through anyway.
If they give AAA titles of 3 yrs ago you will still have 70 percent of people complaining that they have already played it. Rather give the lesser known titles people might have missed.
Except we have precedent. Before the PS4 launched people raved about PS+ games, and they were mostly AAA offerings, deus ex, saints row, uncharted, sleeping dogs, demon souls etc. Sure a few complained, but the overwhelming majority praised PS+.
Why do people estimate the worthiness of PS+ based on what offerings we get every month?
The reason you pay for PS+ is to get all those '+' benefits.
Automatic updates, automatic patches, automatic trophy syncing, discounts on Store, the ability to store your saves online, (and now with PS4) to play online.
The FREE* games we get every month are simply a bonus given to us as loyal subscribers.
If you are paying for PS+ just to get the FREE* games then of course you are gonna be dissatisfied from time to time since you never really know what to expect each month. Also, you are going about this the wrong way.
Forget the bloody FREE* games and ask yourself this: if PS+ didn't offer those FREE* games every month, would you still pay for it for the other benefits?
The answer determines the type of person you are.
- If your answer is yes then you see its potential and value for money and accept the FREE* games as a pleasant bonus. No reason to whine about which games.
- If your answer is no then you are bound to be dissatisfied most of the time because this is PS+ where the main focus is features, online etc.. and maybe you'd be better off getting PS NOW where the main focus is games.
Ps. If you agree with this post then you probably chose 'yes'.
If you disagree with this post then you probably chose 'no'. And you're a whiner.
*The FREE games are yours to keep and play for as long as your subscription is still active.
Sony is fully responsible for all the complaining about the crappy Ps Plus Games recently, they are the ones who set the expectations.
They tricked everyone into their new subscription based services with an very good lineup of free AAA Games on PS3. Nobady complained that their former free oline gaming service would require a subscription now just because of this cheap ploy.
And as soon as everyone was sucked into this service and they had success with Ps4 they completely stopped any effort now only cheap Indishit. 2
Ummmm helldivers is one of the best games this generation. At least try to make sense when you troll.
If you dont own helldivers already, this is your lucky day. Get yourself a headphone and enjoy the chaos.
Thanks for the perspective actually... all you really need to get your value for a year is 3 games you enjoy.
This subscription year for me (starting November) I've had Far Cry Blood Dragon and King's Quest.. Helldivers could be my third. Also yet to play Grim Fandango. Still have 9 months to go. For my tastes, worth the subscription.
