It’s Time For The Return Of The 3D Platformer

Gamerant

Gaming is an evolving medium, that much is undeniable. As hardware continues to advance, so too do the games that find themselves on it, but something happened after the PlayStation 2 and Nintendo 64 eras came to a close – the 3D platformer died. No, the genre itself didn’t completely fade from existence, but the importance of focusing on those types of titles lessened, as the need to innovate in other ways took priority and new franchises began to be born.

We need Rayman 4, Crash Bandicoot, Jak 4, Banjo-Kazooie and even Spyro to come back

Agreed those games always had new ideas and amazing worlds to explore. everything is all futuristic , boring warfare garbage these days

I would love for those games to make a comeback.

In the meantime we have Ratchet and Clank, Tearaway Unfolded and Yooka-Laylee to look forward to.

* We need Mario 64-2.

* Give us those small little levels that are large enough to explore in, yet not big enough to get lost in.

Give us different objectives to complete to get the Stars just like in Mario64, but give us like 400+ stars to collect.

* It's very simply and basic, the blueprint has been there since 1996.

That seems like a terrible idea. The sequels to Mario64 were awesome because they improved on so many aspects. Going back to the style you're talking about would be a step back from the series. Mario Sunshine, Galaxy 1, and Galaxy 2 innovated the series and genre as a whole.

You should try the BanjoKazooie series or DK64 if you're looking for something that you've described

The Last 2 ray man games were incredable, so underrated!! I would kill for a new crash and proper spyro.

I would love a new Conker, Gex, Tomba, new Physconauts and a new Super Mario like 64! I really want Conker, nothing out there like it this gen.

These are all the 3D platformers avaliable for this generation:

Super Mario 3D World (great game, the best)
Knack (it's really good, would love a sequel)
Legend of Kay (it's a remake and i like it)
Sonic Lost World (it's okay)
Sonic Boom (really bad)

Rare Replay has great 3D platformers from the past like Banjo games and Conker, classic games and really great, Kameo is good too, not as good as the previous Rare games.

Soon, we will have:

Tearaway Unfolded
Ratchet & Clank
Yooka-Laylee
Lobodestroyo
Ty the Tasmanian Tiger remastered (it's still a rumor)

We still need more, i just can't accept what happened with Crash Bandicoot and Spyro, Sony should have these series back, and it's time for a sequel of Banjo and Conker.

I'm so excited for

Tearaway Unfolded
Ratchet & Clank
Yooka-Laylee

FallenAngel19841792d ago

We still get number of quality 3D platformers

FallenAngel19841790d ago

Would you rather have more mediocre 3D platformers instead of the number of great ones we get now

tigertron1790d ago

Fortunately we're getting a new Ratchet and Clank next year, and I've heard rumours of fifth Sly game. Now all we need is for Sony to buy Crash Bandicoot.
