Here is the full NPD report to follow up Sony's announcement that it was the top-selling console for July.
Fancy seeing ... Mortal Kombat on the charts?
It Looks like making mortal kombat X current gen timed exclusive and taking advantage of the extra power of the ps4 and xbone paid off :-) cause it definitely got more attention.
Ps4 is a juggernaut that can't be stopped. Sony did a fantastic building an amazing console.
Well I don't really follow PS so I don't know, but I'm fairly sure PlayStation has had a steady stream of exclusives every month, no matter how small. Xbox had some minor releases, but not many. Wouldn't it be better that we had a few small games a month than nothing at all? I'll give it to PlayStation, the sheer number of new games coming to that console a month is impressive
playstation is doing really well, but not this half of 2015 in the exclusive department. Xbox wins 2015 for exclusives, but 2016 should be a great year for sony and their exclusives.
You should put in your opinion. Because imo PlayStation lineup all of 2015 is vastly superior. Also based on sales the majority agree with me.
Even Masterchief admits that PS4 has more exclusives so why can't you?
@Gamer7804 Xbox may have the edge this Holiday, but the PS4 still has games this holiday. It would be worse if they didn't have anything at all. I think that and the 3rd party support will keep the PS4 strong this holiday. @Sactown Sales don't really determine PS4 is superior. It's just the hot item for now. I would say the sales prove that buyers just don't look at exclusives like the Internet heavily seems to do. It's also the domino effect, which is that if someone has a PS4, his friend will likely get another, and so on to play more mainstream games like COD.
You contradicted yourself in the same sentence. First you say not this half of the year then proceed to talk about the whole year. As for the later half of the year it's highly subjective and not everyone shares you opinion. One thing that is not subjective is that the fanboy goal posts can't even make Xbox look good for the first half of the year.
All I see Xbox have in the second half is Halo, Forza and Tomb Raider. Standout is easily tomb raider and other two come out yearly so nothing all that special imo, especially if you put it up against 3 new ips, Bloodborne, The Order and Until Dawn.
@sactownlawyer916 I was referring to number of retail exclusives this latter part of 2015, not quality of exclusives which i agree would be subjective. @SoapShoes I didn't contradict, i just said that xbox has more exclusives this latter half of 2015. It's to be inferred that each half combined that xbox had more retail exclusives overall in 2015. Sony has some great games coming up, just giving credit where credit is due in 2015. This has nothing to do with total sales of consoles or games in general, just retail exclusives i'm referring to. @BitbyDeath you left out fable legends which looks really fun to me. Bloodborne and The Order have already released.
I intentionally left out a lot of the lower budget titles otherwise the list would be too long. Also does it matter which titles already came out this year? If we're talking a new buyer then they could look to buying them and an existing customer is likely playing them.
The PS4 has many games releasing on the console each month between now and December. Whether they are indies, AAA, niche, JRPG, re-masters, exclusives or multi-plats is neither here or there - gamers want games they can enjoy and have fun with and the PS4 is giving them that. 'Tomorrow's Children', and 'Rime', two exclusive games which may well have a disc release in addition to digital are also due this year. Xbone fan boys love trying to spread this myth about lack of games on the PS4, ironic considering that in the first 8 months of this year, the PS4 has had 4 AAA releases compared to none on the Xbox.
@BitbyDeath i'm just referring to the latter part of 2015 not to new buyers as i've had all the consoles since launch days. @Jayszen PS4 does have a lot of indie titles coming out that is true, but i was just referring to retail box exclusives. I myself don't really care for indie titles usually outside the occasional few.
Kim Kardashian is probably getting worried about PS4...... She may go total naked to stay on top.... Again....
PS4 might not be cranking out the AAA right now but in the last month I've bought Q.U.B.E, Journey, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, started Gauntlet: Slayer Edition tonight and also just bought Everybody's Gone to the Rapture but haven't tried that yet. There's a lot of variety. Until Dawn is coming out in just over two weeks, that will be my first retail game since The Order. That's enough to keep me busy until the Nathan Drake Collection in October, then I'll be buying an Xbox One in November for Rise of the Tomb Raider!
I wouldn't say lack of new games doesn't hurt as those are short term sales. I'm pretty sure give em a couple gens and they might start effect sales. Consider that Destiny is a new IP this gen, Batman was new last gen, and I would say most of COD is last gen as well. Lack of new IPs do hurt the industry as the new IPs this gen will be the heavy hitters next gen, they will build a following with new series that slowly start to become established series. How far are we really from a Dying Light 4, Titan Fall 5, Watch Dogs 3 etc? I mean...that is very likely, in a good way in terms of growth.
Sony could have 30 games release on their console in a month, and we'd still hear about how there's not that many games.
They actually do have just over 30 new games a month now. And that's during the "summer drought"
Wow, where's God of war? Remaster bomb?
If it included all the games in the franchise then it would have done better, but the game was pretty over priced for just a remaster of one game. Especially when you compare it with The Nathan Drake Collection, or even Gears of War Ultimate Edition for Xbox One that will include all the other games in the series via backwards compatability if you play it before the end of this year.
It really takes A LOT to dethrone PS4 from its throne in North America. X1 can only manage to do so for only a few months out of the entire year, and when it does its through massive deals.
Xbox is closing the gap!!!! Seriously though the PS4 has a crappy library and horrible online service.. Sniker sniker.. :)
You sure put a lot of effort into this comment lol. Anyway it seems PS keeps on keeping on, and certain members of a certain fanbase still continue to hate lol. Congrats to Sony on continued success
It got outsold, Xbox is trailing further and further behind.
Wow I thought you guys would know me better by now and sense the sarcasm. All good.
People really have issues to understand sarcasm here. You have a point!
I see what you did there.
It flew over their heads! That actually means it was quite successful! Bubbles for you! :) OT: For the PS4, it's business as usual.
Sniker sniker? Wtf?
Ya it's a smothered laugh, or half-assed. Wow my comment went way way over people's heads.
Congrats to Sony. Simply keep what you are doing. Next up Until Dawn which I hope along with MGS keeps me busy until Uncharted.
I am not sure who has the best holiday lineup between Nintendo and Microsoft. They both have a ton of exclusives
Sony won again congrats.. Xbox-one up 44% in sales. Xbox-One won congrats.
...the truth is once again that both Sony and Microsoft are selling consoles faster than they ever have before. “After 21 months, combined Xbox One and PS4 hardware unit sales are close to 50 percent higher than the combined sales of Xbox 360 and PS3 after 21 months on the market,” said Callahan. And Microsoft confirmed that its system is continuing to pick up momentum. “Xbox One and Xbox Live continued to see strong sales and engagement in July,” Xbox marketing boss Mike Nichols said in a statement. “Xbox One sales in the U.S. [were] up 44 percent over July 2014 and active global Xbox Live users — Xbox One and Xbox 360 — up 22 percent.”
Destiny sold more on Xbox One and Fifa sold more on PS4. Marketing deals don't seem to be working all that well?
Destiny didn't sell more on xbox.
I forgot to add (for July 2015 according to NPD).
lol really surprised how well the ps4 is selling, no games & poor online service, social media has hyped this console as being way more powerful and the hardware design helps a lot too. also the great launch since xbox messed up so badly with price & kinect. oh well let the idiots jump into the hype & let the smart ones go for features & games. looking forward to uncharted 4 & gears of war 4
PS4 has no games just well over 100 or 200 more then xbox who by your logic hasn't even released a game yet. The console as it stands is more powerful that's a fact. The online service isn't poor at all.
I'm not sure why there are so much articles asking why lack of new games not impacting console sales... Dude, people who bought new consoles are most likely haven't played any title on that console yet, past titles are like new games in their eyes. When someone bought new consoles, all titles from launch to this date are taken into consideration, not just the games released the same time they buy the console.
These people are ignorant, didn't we get rocket league on ps4 (among the weekly releases??) This is a sleeper hit if there was ever such a thing... Plus god of war remake, etc. I don't know about the xb1/Wii u release schedule for the summer, but the ps4 had plenty of attention, these people have to stop acting as if only the few first party exclusives ms release in the holidays every year count as games...
