I'm totally fine with women being main characters in video games. But I hate this idea that to make men and women equal we have to have women and men characters in interchangeable roles, to show that there's no real difference, and that the only difference in us is our body type. I don't think that's true, I think we have different roles. Equality isn't sameness, we're different but we balance each other out. What's sexist is when one general type of roles is viewed as superior or inferior to the other, and modern feminism (which has definitely influenced a lot of this "we need more heroines kicking butt" stuff) thinks that for women to be equal, they need to be seen as no different from men, and should be put in roles that are seen as typically masculine. There's nothing wrong with developers just wanting to play as girls in an action games, we shouldn't restrict roles typically seen as masculine from women, I'm not saying we need to make sure it's just the men killing stuff and women having babies. I just don't like the mindset that says that we need to show more women as "butt-kicking bad-asses" for equality.
"Bad ass" women do not interest me. I prefer those with a "good ass" ;)
