After being quizzed at Gamescom, Naughty Dog has dismissed any rumours suggesting that its next instalment in the action-packed Uncharted series (Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End) may include a character levelling system.
That would be silly. Glad it's just a rumor.
Yea, the approach Uncharted takes to combat is great and simplistic. You are just a guy, and you pick up a weapon and go. No leveling up, no getting stronger, no dumb skill trees. This is why Uncharted is so succesful. This is why I did not like Tomb Raider 2013, because it DID have all that, and I wasn't expecting that kind of game. I thought it was going to be an amazing, gritty survival game. Instead I got Far Cry, with leveling up, crafting overpowered weapons, and becoming god by the end of the game. Uncharted doesn't care about all that, you are just as average in the end of the game as you are in the beginning, and I like that a lot.
+1 Charisma Lol I agree with the above.
That would be pretty bad for a game like uc. Glad it's not the case!
God a levelling system in this game....that would be horrible Glad it's not true
Leveling in a linear shooter can work great if done right. I really enjoyed the way Wolfenstein The New Order handled it.
I would welcome some kind of leveling system in Uncharted Charted 4. Leveling up the weapons by buying attachments or buying Drake equipment like ammo belts to hold more ammo and body armor would be a nice change. Have the treasure values be the currency you use to buy equipment gives you a reason to explore for treasure making Drake the treasure hunter we know him to be.
They might have something like TLoU, which worked pretty well in my opinion.
A quick romp then
Would a quick romp w/ an extra 2 hours in the pause menu be somehow better? Or maybe all of the resources spent on creating a leveling system can be funneled towards making it more than a quick romp in terms of gameplay time? Crazy I know.
but then hes gona slaughter more than just people
I loved The Last of Us, but I found the upgrade crafting and leveling system in that game to be pretty worthless to be honest. It didn't happen often enough, there weren't enough crafting tables and there weren't enough upgrades to buy to make it seem like a complete system. I think crafting individual items worked well, and scavenging for supplies tied into the tone and theme of the story very nicely. Overall, I figure you do a leveling system properly (and not as a half-developed afterthought) or not at all.
I agree. Personally, The Last of Us is without doubt the best game I've ever played. The balance beween scavenging and crafting, and the frequency of items left for you within the environment (bottles, bricks etc.) was very good. But I did feel weapon upgrade tables to be pretty uninspiring. Probably (as you say) because they were so few and far between. UC4 can't come soon enough for me.
This game is going to feature a sunken city you know, something like Atlantis if not Atlantis itself. It looks a bit like the location of the first game with its ruined buildings and jetskis (boat in UC4). There have been screenshots for it but surprisingly little said about it since, even on forums that I've looked at.
