Sony: Market Research Shows that 'people want to try Project Morpheus'

VRFocus - Virtual reality (VR) faces huge issues from a marketing perspective, simply because potential customers need to try it for themselves to be sold on it. No amount of trailers and press conferences can convince someone that, above all else, VR works. Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) has come to realise this with its upcoming head-mounted display (HMD) for PlayStation 4, Project Morpheus. In fact, SCE’s market research has indicated that people actually want to try Project Morpheus for themselves right now.

Project Morpheus is one of the most exciting things i've ever seen in my gaming life ! cannot wait to try horror games on it !

INTOmyMOUTH1165d ago

Could be scary just like move.

This is Sony's chance to do what Nintendo did with motion controls. Seeing how the PS4 is the top console on the market it has the best chance to make VR mainstream. The pricing and marketing have to kill it! Can't wait

Have you played it though yet? On another thread, you posted it looks rubbish just by looking at it, yet here, you have never touched it, yet its the greatest thing ever....

Damage control? Explain. I asked a simple question.

@INTOmyMOUTH

You clearly didn't play P.T. There is alot more tension when you're in control and you are the one making the decisions. Also the immersion from VR takes it to a whole other level. Which is probably why 4D Insidious.

With responses like that I feel your have put MYfoot at the beginning of your name

What's that suppose to mean?

Anyways I believe its normal that people want to try it out. But the real question is how many people will buy this device?

That's going to depend on price and games more than anything.

ScorpiusX1165d ago

It means what it means. Was I suppose to write an omg Sony comment and be long winded about it .

MasterCornholio1164d ago

Well you don't need to charge at windmills or anything.

But just saying OK is vague in my opinion.

But I'm probably making a big deal out of nothing.

"In fact, SCE’s market research has indicated that people actually want to try Project Morpheus for themselves right now."

Well, duh?

The question needs to be whether or not people actually want to BUY it.

BlackPanther1165d ago

Those two things go hand in hand though. I wouldn't buy this without trying it and probably many others.

People need to try this to understand the full appeal of it.

Mystogan1165d ago

You don't need market research to know that people want to try it... Everyone wants to try new technology. Whether they actually want to BUY it is another story.

I do really want 100 % to try this instead of the Oculus, Sony makes products for the people instead other guys they just experimenting, I mean just look how much time has passed since that damn Oculus thing was announced, I mean those guys by now are already millionares and still no actual release date, Sony only needs to do with Morpheus is to price it right, also by far it has also the best design.

Peace_Love_and_FPS1165d ago (Edited 1165d ago )

That experimenting is the entire reason there is a Morpheus, don't be ignorant, be grateful. Oculus led to the mainstream release VR is getting today.

Not saying you can't be excited for Morpheus but wouldn't you rather someone put in the effort to do VR right? You know how long it took to get rid of motion sickness? You know Luckey Palmers dream is for VR to succeed, Sony is a company, they want profit. Love their products, but man that's a little bad for your health, putting that much faith and unconditional acceptance that all their products are the absolute best?

It just seems blatantly obvious you like it because it's Sony. I'm buying it, but that's just blind following...

Design wise it's behind in resolution, FOV, and motion tracking. Oculus has touted the most accurate motion controls (benefits of being at it for a while), and with the Vive you can actually walk around a room, that's scheduled to release this year.

Really the only reason I would buy Morpheus is to play PS4 games in VR, and that's only if it has universal support (because the others have software that allows that), but don't try to make it into something it isn't, it IS mid-range VR.
