Here is a first look at Mafia III gameplay, following the reveal trailer that was shown today.

Did u guys notice at 2:00 and 2:20 mark where the rear view mirror of the car showing the image of the car crashing in front of your car? That's some magic mirror we got over there! Even when the car chasing you crashed, the mirror automatically focus on the wreck like a tv LOL!

It was open, but it was not that free to roam around in. Bumnut is right, Mafia was linear. The game was open, but it was an empty shell of linear play.

By the sounds of it you don't even know what open world is. Any game where you have the freedom to move around freely is open world. Even if there is nothing to do in-between missions, it's still open world.

It had Open world, it just wasn't a sandbox like the one in GTA or Just Cause are. It was merely there to give players some room to experience the story.

You could however drive around as much as you liked during certain missions/chapters.

@Sennacherib I can totally understand how you feel about this game. I am on the other hand very excited for it, but could care less about MGS5 and MGS2 was one of my favorite games of all time. Mafia 2 was a stiff sort of game and I enjoyed the limitations it had, but the level of detail was epic, and I seem to get the same vibe here.

It looks interesting to me just cause we need a black protagonist in games and there's a lot of genric Caucasian protagonist in a lot of games and I feel like this game focuses on race issues as well which just makes this game a whole lot more interesting to me compared to others.

Hmm... I was excited when I saw the CG announcement trailer. When I saw the gameplay, it looks alright but I couldn't understand anything because I don't speak German.

After all this time of wait, am I just as excited when I heard that Mafia 2 was coming after the First mafia game? No not really.

I love the Mafia series, I still look forward to seeing what M3 has in store for us.

Judging by the lightning bolts over enemies heads they're rival groups, perhaps the Italian mafia got shut down heavily, the bosses eliminated, or imprisoned and isolated, and its now up to the new protagonist to keep things alive, or even start his new gang as we see an African American woman, someone I wouldn't expect to be in the Italian mafia.

That really bothers me too. 2015 and they can't be arsed to put in realistic phsyx effects for car crashes. Looks like a sneeze will blow up any car in this game. I was looking forward to play as Vito purely because of where the story left off in Mafia 2. Im good with the new lead so long as loose story threads get tied up.

Exactly, you had multiple activities that didn't take you further into the story, it was fun to mess around, drive beautiful cars real fast (dat underground tunnel jump!), listen to the great music and occasionally go on a massacre as if Vitos flaring Italian temper just snapped :D

Hmmm...I honestly don't know what to think about the gameplay. I wasn't impressed, also is it me or did it seem the car that was being driven in the demo was totally out of place compared to the other cars during the gameplay (year, make and model wise).

The graphics are nice and some aspects of the atmosphere but it does seem to have gone the wrong artistic direction. Mafia 2 had class and a real feeling of classic Mafia movies but also had a slight weird dudebro shooter feeling at points, this looks to have gone more in the dudebro direction. There are still classy looking elements but the 'badass' posing by the main characters and the explodathon parts ruin it.

I always thought Mafia 2 felt like it needed another gameplay mechanic too as its basic cover shooter/car chase gameplay was a little bland and dated at the time. The gameplay in this one seems the same and thus even more obviously dated.

The ONLY thing that would be disappointing is if they dont close the story with Joe. This looks like Vito simply got a few friendly pointers from Tony Montana on how to take care of business. I am actually pleasantly surprised with this title I wasn't expecting much but now I've got my eye on it. To the morons saying this isn't Mafia it picks up exactly where the last ended. Vito is allied with Lincoln and joe's fate is cleared up. Even if Vito was the main protagonist I highly doubt that he would still be linked with the mob considering how the last game ended. Its always funny to me how jaded and needy gamer's can be. Here and youtube you have people crying for a direct continuation when here it is with a black protagonist and they don't want it anymore.

Nice love the characters and the setting no doubt he will source some nice ex nam weapons , the last game for me was great when I heard that Bing vocal action I was hooked . My parents dropped in and we just listened to the radio in game having a wine with the picture off hope the music in this is well researched as is the fashion and architecture.

Mafia and Mafia 2 especially the 2nd game was one my favorite game of all time! I liked the characters looking(not graphics) the setting was the best, music, play etc..
