Killer Instinct: Season Three launches March 2016; Battletoads’ Rash joins the fight

Killer Instinct: Season Three will launch for both Xbox One and PC in March 2016, Microsoft announced at Gamescom.

Need a new Battletoads game... STAT!

I hope Rare is quietly toiling away at a new one right now.

XanderZane3606d ago

Great news. I wasn't expected a Season 3. I still need to get Season 2.

Tedakin3606d ago

As a huge KI fan, my jaw dropped. New character, Rash, available today free. Great to hear Season 3 is a thing.

This game, this game

Such a good product and the variety of fighters is awesome

christocolus3679d ago

MS and IG have done a great job with this game. Aria is so unique.

Fireseed3673d ago

@poor

Yeah she's just one of the many Transforming/Rushdown/Keepaway /MixUp/Robotic fighters that every game has like 20 of....

theWB274151d ago (Edited 4151d ago )

So from everything I've heard Killer Instinct is amazing. Will Microsoft put new talent to fill the void or are principal employees staying and fill in those gaps?

Such a weird thing to hear about a studio being purchased in the middle of game development and apparently being pulled from it.

EDIT- Well Micro did state Rare had nothing planned after Kinect Sports.

Snookies124151d ago

KI isn't quite amazing yet, it's really fun but it needs more variety in characters/stages. I know they're coming out, so in time I'm sure it will shape up to be a really memorable fighter.

theWB274151d ago

Well if the amount of content is the only thing holding it back then it doesn't change the overall positive praise KI has received.

Snookies124151d ago

I didn't say it did, and I already said it's really fun.

theWB274151d ago (Edited 4151d ago )

Am I missing something?

"KI isn't quite amazing yet, it's really fun but it needs more variety in characters/stages. I know they're coming out, so in time I'm sure it will shape up to be a really memorable fighter."

That comment directly refutes the amazing part based off of content because you followed it up by saying when more content comes it can become a memorable fighter.

"I didn't say it did, and I already said it's really fun"

So...you did say that.

EDIT- Idc if you look like a bad guy or not....If more content means it'll be better for you then good. Majority opinions I've heard is it's great as is...can't wait for more.

Snookies124151d ago

Not sure why you're trying to make me look like a bad guy here. I like the game a lot, I'm just saying I wouldn't call it amazing until it has all of its features in place.

-Foxtrot4151d ago

@Snookies12

"Not sure why you're trying to make me look like a bad guy here"

Thats what he does...

theWB274151d ago

@Foxtrot
"Thats what he does..."

No I don't...

4Sh0w4151d ago (Edited 4151d ago )

That's good news for DH but bad news for me as I really love what they did with KI reboot. I was hoping for a whole new "KI 2" from them in a few years, it still may be possible but of course there's more Red tape with Amazon owning them. Well for now gives us more charachters in KI.

Boody-Bandit4151d ago (Edited 4151d ago )

Snookies is right.
KI in its current for is severely lacking so it's hardly amazing. Who ever is telling you that is exaggerating.

The graphics are great and effects are excellent but it's not exactly a graphical juggernaut. By that I mean it isn't what I expected from a next gen title visually. There is no true single player mode. No boss character, 6 actual characters, no backgrounds on the characters at all, no story line of any kind. Even with season 2 it will still be lacking the roster even the original had.

Now what I want to know is what is MS going to do about this? Us KI fans went thru the ceiling when this was announced for the XBOX ONE and I was really looking forward to what DH was going to do with this game over the years. They expanded the fighting mechanics and everything flows so sweet, that's by far what matters most, but where do we go from here if DH is acquired by Amazon? MS better not sweep this under the rug and move on. They got all of us KI fans back on the bandwagon. Dont abandon this franchise again.

Army_of_Darkness4151d ago

Amazon bought DH as their first party studio for their upcoming android based gaming console that is intended to compete against MS, Nintendo and Sony?? LMAO! Good luck with that.

LexHazard794150d ago

I played KI last night at a buddies. And I like KI...only thing missing is a story mode! But the combat is amazing, relentless and fun!

Sitdown4150d ago

Unless stages actually factor into your combos, do they really matter that much?

SilentNegotiator4150d ago (Edited 4150d ago )

Geez, theWB27 (AKA JokesonYou multi-account), what's with the freakout? You make it sound like he's attacking KI.

theWB274150d ago

@Silent

I'm not Jokes..it wasn't a freak out. I don't spend enough time here to post for two accounts.

That's the first time I've been accused of that. Ugh..

At the end of your article it says the current titles being developed are not effected by the acquisition. Perhaps KI-Next/2 on XB1 will have different devs, if this Amazon console rumor is true vs Amazon simply being publishers.

EDIT

We'll see. Folks were nervous over the DH pick to begin with(getting feedback was what DH did the best)

theWB274151d ago

The only way that helps is if they leave the current team alone completely and add talent to develop other titles.

If they remove key people to do other things...it's a detriment.

Godmars2904151d ago (Edited 4151d ago )

"Well if the amount of content is the only thing holding it back then it doesn't change the overall positive praise KI has received."

Does that really matter given that MS has no control over the IP?

If anything KI2 will likely be showing up on Amazon's game console.

Edit:
No wait, they don't own the IP. Hell, everything listed in the article was owned by someone else.

What IPs do they have?

theWB274151d ago (Edited 4151d ago )

Microsoft owns Killer Instinct by way of owning Rare. So no...it won't be there.

@AceBlazer
What did I miss that makes you ask if I read?

mediate-this4151d ago

What are yammering about? Micro owns ki not double helix, dh was assigned to making the game. Please know your info dude

kewlkat0074150d ago (Edited 4150d ago )

God of course they worked on it it's not their IP.

AceBlazer134151d ago

Did you not read the article ?

Anyway, are they really planning to enter the console fray or are they just trying to get software into the horrid Amazon appstore to make it more appealing? Maybe they'll become 3rd party devs/publishers

Rimeskeem4151d ago

I would not say amazing but it was better then expected

andrewsqual4150d ago

73 on Metacritic is amazing???

xtremeimport4150d ago

this is a question, nothing more.

But does this mean that the possibility of a KI on other platforms exists now?

air14150d ago

No.. ms owns ki not dh.

KevinCubes4150d ago

No M$ owns the rights not the studio double helix

xtremeimport4150d ago

Right, because MS owns Rare which owns KI.

correct?

DryBoneKoopa854151d ago

Wait! Is Amazon now buying up company's to make games? I wonder if this is to get developers on the rumored Amazon console that's been being talked about.

Godmars2904151d ago

So...Amazon is moving into game making?

Really?

Mikefizzled4151d ago

I REALLY don't want Amazon to use their position to strong arm their way into the games industry.

mhunterjr4151d ago

If they are buying double helix, I'm not sure how strong their arm is. I like KI, but previously they were the go to guys for licensed shovel ware.

joeorc4150d ago (Edited 4150d ago )

@mhunterjr

"previously they were the go to guys for licensed shovel ware."

100% Exactly

"creator of classic games like Earthworm Jim, Sacrifice, MDK and Enter the Matrix, merged with The Collective, Inc., makers of Indiana Jones and the Emperor’s Tomb, Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer."

The point is they are a perfect studio to make smart phone and tablet Games for a studio.

Look for more companies like Amazon to offer indie publisher's to be bought out. when candy crush for example is raking in over $800,000.00+ a day. you can expect more of these type of Buy outs.

look and read this:

BlackTar1874150d ago

Earthworm Jim and MDK were fun games.

sashimi4151d ago

Thats what Microsoft did...

BOLO4150d ago (Edited 4150d ago )

Atmospheric telepathy...Was going to type exactly what you did...2 disagrees with your comment obviously don't know Xbox 1 (2001) was to stop Sony's Playstation 2 from entering the living with Linux software... http://uk.ign.com/articles/...

4ShotKing4151d ago

Hopefully Double Helix release season 2 of KI and then move onto Amazon games.
