In conclusion: Yeah, it’s alright, but it’s also a bit crap. There’s room for improvement (read: a football field sized room) and I’m personally quite excited for what the future holds for the PS Now service. - The Games Cabin
Wow by the sounds of this article it's simple not good enough for a rental service. Surely they could emulate Microsoft's approach and not charge for games you already own.
Eh, if you already own them then why would want to stream them? I kept my PS3 to avoid issues like this. I think Ps now is primarily aimed at those who never got to enjoy the PS3 and it's games, not at those who have already played them. I own loads of movies, does that mean Amazon should allow me to watch them free because I bought them on disc and more importantly do I stream films I already own on disc anyway, we'll no I don't.
sony should allow competing services like ea access and then see what consumers support more than the other. ps now appears to be good on paper but poor on execution and they fumbled right out of the gate. sony finally got it into a subscription model but the game selection is weak. they also promised ps4 games, where are they?
"Eh, if you already own them then why would want to stream them? I kept my PS3 to avoid issues like this." Whilst I definitely agree with your point (I also kept my PS3, which is actually at the side of my PS4) it would be nice if PS Now would pick up on the games you already purchased on the PS3 and didn't try to charge you to rent them on another PS device. A large amount of the PS Now games on offer I already have so it would be great if I could play them for free without having to turn off the PS4 and put the PS3 back on.
@moldybread Show me the article or video where they promised ps4 games on PS Now.
@paul-p1988 "it would be nice if PS Now would pick up on the games you already purchased on the PS3 and didn't try to charge you to rent them on another PS device." PS Now is not designed for people who already own the games on the service. It is not backward compatibility. That's why they are planning to have the service run on all entertainment devices with screens e.g. TV's, phones, tablets, computers, etc. This service is not targeted at people like you. It's for the no console owners and xbox and nintendo only gamers. People who still want to play old games tend to keep their consoles. people who get rid of their older consoles and games tend to only be interested in current gen. They made a service not for people like us but for the people who have never been part of the PS ecosystem. You can't please everyone. No one can please everyone.
@johndoe11211 "Show me the article or video where they promised ps4 games on PS Now." http://www.thegamescabin.co... “In our plans going forward we’re looking at everything in our catalogue so there’s the real possibility that you’ll see PlayStation 1, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation 4 titles available,” VP of Sony Network Entertainment Eric Lempel told stated in an interview. “Right now it’s just PlayStation 3, but these are all options we wish to open in the future once we’re happy with the results from PSnow.” satisfied? "They made a service not for people like us but for the people who have never been part of the PS ecosystem." that is not entirely correct. it debut on the ps4 as well as other devices. it is designed to get access to playstation titles period, not just those who have never been a part of the playstation.
I like the idea of backward compatibility on xbox one sony should do the same but nooo... they HAD to find a way to get more cash for old games. This pisses me off
A little off topic, but ummmm...didn't Microsoft just charge people $10 for solitaire on Windows 10? The world's longest running free game. That and blatant fanboy rants piss me off.
I looked at PSNow recently and thought I wouldn't play any of those games again, especially pay for them There's only a handful of games last gen i'd play again, Red Dead, Max Payne 3, Skyrim, Fallout 3/New Vagas, unless they look better (frame rate/resolution) i'm not interested, tbh they looked like crap last gen, i'm used to 1080p gaming now I don't want to have to go baack to 540p or 720p That's why i'm all for remasters, i'd pay to play Max Payne 3 at 1080p 60fps any day Battlefield 4 is a perfect example, I played the multiplayer for 600odd hours, now i've got it on the PS4 it looks vastly improved, I think how the f did I even play BF4 on the PS3, it looks looks like crap in comparison It's like would you rather watch Lord Of The Rings on the old skool vhs tapes, or watch them on Bluray?
I thought the cum-newgen games weren't being put on PSNow, just stuff that never got a PS4 iteration? That's just silly if they are doing that...do you mean to tell me you can get PS3's BF4 on PSNow?
No buddy it was just an example
Oh right, got it!
There is only one problem with PSnow and that is simply the price. the service is absolutely fantastic, not a single fault with the service and the experience. its all down to price. They could easily counter the xbox BC with letting people play PS now games for free that are already in there library or own through ps+. and since PS+ has been going a lot longer that library will be huge for some people.
I agree the price is way to high. They also need to get all their exclusive titles on there, if someone doesn't have a ps3/ps4 they would rent for those titles. Also there should be a pay to own for a streaming title, unless i'm missing it somewhere.
I think there is a disagree troll going through these posts lol. I agree with what your saying they do need to add more of their exclusives and titles in general, but I suppose if there are plans for remaster which there definitely will be in today's gaming industry then they wouldn't want to ruin that money milking method. i think they really just need to make a decision now and run with it. scrap remasters and put it all on PS now and focus on new IPs instead of wasting resources on remasters.
Not everybody has 100MB fibre point dexter. So your comment is null and void.
To use ps now it is recommended to have a minimum of 5 Mbps. Where the hell did you get 100Mbps from?
I dunno where you come from, but PSnow isnt supported in my country and our DSL goes up to 10MB on average. So whoever told you 5MB is all you need, lied... Plus 5Mb is +/-500KB/s, thats not even enough to stream a 720P video properly. So keep dreaming...
If ps now had some kind of free service option. Such as if you have the physical or digital version of a game it should be used like a key. Unlocking the free version. Also give you the ps3 games on plus for free on your ps4.
Nice idea but flawed. I bought all 3 pre-owned Uncharted games for £10, not far off the cost of renting them. So, pay to rent and have nothing at the end or pay for pre-owned and have free access to it for life as long as I own the physical copies. They would need to charge some kind of subscription plan to make it feasible, else it would drive up the price of pre-owned games and only line the pockets of high street stores rather than Sony.
That's exactly what's needed right now, inject some money into the physical retailer market. Hell, Microsoft are giving away FREE shit with their new games - Fallout 4 has Fallout 3 for free, Gears of War 1 remaster or whatever it's called has like 3 bloody games for free! Can't remember the others but it's a great service to fans.
@EazyC I'm looking at MS now and they are quickly reminding me of how Sony were last gen when they realised they had to pull some rabbits out of the hat. Even though the PS3 had inferior ports PS+ well and truly impressed me. I can't say the same with the PS4 PS+ offerings and it shows. If Indie gaming is your thing that's the only way it would be any good. Then I glance across at the XB1, EA Access...backwards compatibility *sigh* and i'm thinking why hasn't my PS4 got those options?
They should make it a free service when you already pay for PS+. Microsoft offers a free option and having to pay on top of PS+ is just very consumer-unfriendly.
Microsoft doesn't offer a free games streaming service. :I You honestly don't know what PSNow is right?
I perfectly know it's not a streaming service, but it's a free service nonetheless. I'm a longterm PlayStation fan, I've had a PS1, PS2 and still am enjoying my PS3 regularly. I've had reservations with the PS4. There are a lot of complaints with the quality of the controllers, PSN has gotten worse and I don't see PSnow taking off with the prices as they are in beta. I'll probably buy a PS4 in future as I love Jrpgs but gamers need to realize that Microsoft is doing a lot of things right at the moment. Praising Sony for low quality controllers, sucky PSN and way too expensive PS Now (should be free when you already pay for PS+ with substandard PSN) is not helping. Only criticizing does.
@Indigon What the hell are you talking about? PS4 complaints coming from someone who does not even own PS4, just wow. The DS4 is a fantastic controller, there was a small problem with the plastic on the thumbsticks but Sony sorted that out over a year ago, PS+ is not "sucky", it's a great service offering a wide range of games to play all included in the yearly sub, Rocket league is the outstanding game of the year so far for me. PS Now is an optional service, either you want it or you don't, this whole BC thing is a load of crap as well, it will slowy fade away like everything else as gamers want to play new games on there new systems.
@ Snipercontrol As I've stated I've had PlayStation consoles from the very first PS1, I've had all their consoles. That does not make me a Sony fan but a gaming fan. I chose the platform with the games I mostly liked. You probably haven't read the complaints thread about the controller on NeoGAF. Yes it is comfortable but there have been a lot of complaints of the battery life, the bumpers coming undone and the sticks still. Sure it's a more comfortable controller than the DS3 but I've read none of these complaints of that controller. Something has changed in the build. I also notice that you didn't mention PSN which is the biggest complaint people have.
theres no excuse for no PS1 and PS2 classics on PS4 though. PS3 isn't important as every worthwhile game is getting remastered. i think the best situation would be PS4 getting a PS1 and PS2 emulator and allowing you to play any PS3 game you own for free on PS Now. if they can't offer that i would rather they shut down PS Now.
Please show us this free microsoft service they offer, i can't seem to find it...
And BC is free on the PS2, PS3 and Vita (if you bought digital copys of PSP games). Your suggesting that Sony is charging for BC on the PS4 but that's completely false since the PS4 doesn't have BC in the first place. PSNow isn't a service that allows you to play BC titles on your PS4. Its a streaming service like Netflix so some charge has to be associated with it. Whether it's too much or too little is up to consumers to decide. If Sony starts marketing PSNow as a way to get BC on the PS4 then I'll change my opinion. In that case it should be free to those who already own either a digital or physical copy of a PS3 game.
The prices are just too high . id say 1.99 for two days and 3.99 for 30 days is a bit easier to swallow. I'll never use it at prices now
I agree, they are just being overly greedy.
don't worry i'm sure no one in their sane mind is paying those prices. hopefully it will force them to let us play our owned PS3 games for free through streaming.
The user experience itself works awesome. They just need to come out with more titles and some ps2,ps1 games as well. The price isnt bad when it's the 3 month option for unlimited streaming. 10/m would be perfect.
Over priced gimmick aimed at non gamers who just went out and bought a new Sony TV and got that bundled controller.
There's just no way anyone would possibly want to play games with 300+ MS delay. Sony just needs to cut their losses with this one..
I like PS Now. I just started using PS Now on my PS Vita and I think it is awesome that I am able to play PS3 titles on a handheld. I like the subscription service as I think paying 20 bucks a month for access to tons of PS3 games is a deal.
