Star Wars Battlefront's multiplayer power-ups explained

Power-ups in Star Wars Battlefront can be found across the map and are used to unlock aircraft as well as specific heroes and villains. This ultimately means that players cannot spawn into vehicles, unlike in Battlefield. Instead they will have to work for them.

"across the map and are used to unlock aircraft as well as specific heroes and villains"

OR...how about we just do it like the old games where you actually had to use your skill to kill people and earn your way through the ranks until you could get a chance to play a hero or villain.

Basically you could be a crap play but get lucky and find a power up. That's not fair.

This is sounding more like every other online game everytime they open their mouths about it.

Irishguy953190d ago (Edited 3190d ago )

It could be a case of teams fighting over them instead of 'getting lucky' you know? Similar to the way Halo has/had weapon spawns that teams fought over.

Edit -
Its identity has already changed and we know that. Fighting over these things is a good thing when its in those games. It was a good thing about Halo. I mean you can complain about changes but at least try not to make it out as if this will make the new Battlefront will be a bad game because of it.

Fighting over something means you NEED to be better than the other players directly in front of you to EARN the reward. Its actually MORE skill based than what you are saying. The old Battlefronts were not about skill but about the time you played it. That is how you earned upgrades and power ups.

Hero and villain wise it was about getting the kills. But the rest of the upgrades were just play time and long term "After you get this many kills you get this boost from now on"

"Fighting over something instead of just playing the game well enough with skill to earn it. "

Aren't these two mutually exclusive?

Fighting over something instead of just playing the game well enough with skill to earn it.

If they were going to change this much they should have just created a brand new Sci Fi game.

It's not even out and it's seems to of nearly lost it's own identity

Every battlefront article I've read recently, has you bashing it. We knew there would be changes, and im sure most know that they will like some changes, and dislike others. Its not the same battlefront, and as neither you, nor I have played it, why dont we save the scepticism for after reviews are out and weve played it.

I personally am liking the fact that they are purposely not trying to clone another game and reskin it as star wars. But if you feel so passionately about it, instead of trying to bash this, get battlefront 2 from steam for $5 or less, download the patch, and enjoy all the servers still running the game.

Just me....me alone....me by myself. Yeah I don't think so. Don't try to single me out on this. I post a comment like other people do.

I just find it hilarious that because it's Battlefront people are giving this a free pass when it's obvious what EA are doing to this.

People will get suckered in well enough to gladly pay a lot of money for content which should have been in the game by DLC. Just like what they did to other games like Sims 4 for example.

"I personally am liking the fact that they are purposely not trying to clone another game and reskin it as star wars"

It's basically Battlefield with a Star Wars skin and a few new elements.

"why dont we save the scepticism for after reviews are out and weve played it"

Because it's EA

For the love of god why do people feel the need to tell people to play something before they complain when people are just looking at a companies past mistakes. You are basically saying "Yeah there's a chance it can happen but we still should still give our money to EA day 1 just to see" then if you are right then tough luck you've given your money to them which means a day 1 full price sale. The cycle keeps on spinning

pumpactionpimp3190d ago

Im not saying run out an by it day 1. Infact I encourage everyone to never do that. No game works properly for the first week to month nowadays. Especially the multi player components.

as for the hate on EA, ive been there. After madden 95 I refused to buy anoyher ea game... until bf3, which was horribly botched. Worse in my opinion than 4.

youve pbviously made up your mind that you hate the game, the studio thats developing it, and the company thats producing it. So dont buy it. But let people like me that have waited 10 years or so for another battlefront game, to sit and remain cautiously optimistic.

and please, quit comparing it to battlefield. Nothing past a big map, and vehicular, and Infantry combat in the same game, bear any resemblence to battlefield. Theres no destruction, 24 players max, weapon pick ups etc. Nothing like battlefield. Its like youre saying saints row, and gta are the exact same. When infact the only thing theyve ever had in common is an open world.

Agreed. I don't get the whole begging for bullet points mess, DICE is not Pandemic, let DICE make SW BF the way they would as a game.

If Pandemic was sooooooooo good, Disney clearly would not be handing the license over to EA to have DICE do a BF game.

@Fox- Stop bashing the team based on the publisher.

DICE is a well respected team that does great work and they are one of the best to do MP games.

I can't even think of a single dev that has such an amazing track record for great MP games and post launch support and balancing.

Your on every BF article talking about how much its not the last 2 SW BFs when even the FIRST BF isn't like the second...

Let DICE get their feet wet JUST like Pandemic did with the first title, SW BF2 has much more features then the first game, let DICE do their work before bashing, you've yet to even play it.

"It's basically Battlefield with a Star Wars skin and a few new elements"

Link? I've put literally thousands of hours in BF and I can tell you, Star Wars BF is NOT Battlefield, not even a little.

They are so far from each other its not even funny, in fact the only thing that is the same from the series would be large maps....but many FPS games have large maps, even the first 2 Star Wars BF HAVE LARGE MAPS lol

Star Was BF can go from 3rd to first person, has no classes ie medic, support etc, has power ups, aim is off the hip.

Battlefield doesn't have first or 3rd person on the fly, it has classes, it has no power ups or anything like that, you can aim off the hip or down sight.

Sooooooo I'm sorry what is like Battlefield that you've seen?

"People will get suckered in well enough to gladly pay a lot of money for content which should have been in the game by DLC"

Even thought DICE has confirmed that no content is being held back for DLC? SO they should just work for free for the next 2 years to keep giving you content? Can't you say the same for any game that has ANY post launch content no matter how far it is from the main game? Oh bro, that Witcher DLC should have been in the main game bro...

@Fox- "If they were going to change this much they should have just created a brand new Sci Fi game"

Nope. Disney handed EA the Star Wars licence, EA handed it to DICE, DICE didn't just decide to do this game, they where contracted to.

Also this is a reboot, also many, many developers stated when they would remakes, or reboots, they would often like to change many things that they actually would have changed the first time IF possible.

Its not as if, if Kojima rebooted MGS, he would just keep it top down...the reality is, if something didn't work too well the first time around, why keep making the same mistake JUST for lolz sake for fans?

DICE has no ode to make a BF like their last developer. Its a reboot and they are free to sorta change those things if they feel just.

I agree with Irish on this one.

SuicidalTendencies3190d ago

I lost interest in this game as soon as the details came out about it. All they had to do was make a Battlefront game like the previous ones and Dice F'd it up. Oh well, I'll give my money and time to Fallout 4 this fall/winter.

Majin-vegeta3190d ago

Once I find out where all the power ups are at.I'm gonna camp them and wait for the prey ;)

Aspyr if we sell hotcakes get that code from radical or something and create battlefield 3 please

Becuzisaid60d ago

I thought that was kind of obvious they were incorporating mods to piece this game together. Maybe not, but that's made me worried about one thing:

They also planned on adding the modded ending to KOTOR 2 but were legally blocked from doing so, even after they advertised that to help sell preorders for the game on Switch. Could the same happen with this? Any opponents have 3 weeks to bring down the hammer.

Wish these games would just get remakes.
