5 Times Video Games Made Us Cry

Richard Drummond of Gaming Tech United writes:

"Video games have the power to influence the user in a way that movies and books simply do not. The fact that video games are an interactive medium give them a depth that other mediums can't achieve. That being said, this depth can make us tie our emotions to events, or even characters themselves. Let's take a look at five different times video games made us tear up like little babies."

That Bioshock moment got me as well. Really gave me the chills. That game had some beautiful songs throughout it.

Ugh and the TLOU opening. I haven't been that shocked from a video game's intro ever. That was wildly emotional. Good list!

It's crazy how influential a games' soundtrack can be on our emotions. A good score can really set the tone for any situation.

Yeah. Music can have a tremendous influence on a persons brain and head space during a scene. It's really interesting to see how some developers use that to their advantage.

Music is insanely important to video games. I find myself listening to "Love Theme" from metal gear more then is healthy and socially acceptable.

I'd say Metal Gear 4, in particular. I also got emotional near the end of Wind Waker. Heavy Rain, The Last of Us, Journey, Dear Esther, etc...
It is so strange how so many games that involve this particular emotion are on Sony's platforms.

I think the reason Journey and TLOU are so hitting is because you fall so deep inside that world. The immersion is so intense that you just kind of fall into the characters' shoes. Both are beautifully done games.

Aliens: Colonial Marines. I was balling my eyes out. For all the wrong reasons.

GamingTechUnited1174d ago

Hahahaha. I think that most Aliens fans would agree without on that one!

GamingChip791174d ago

I can attest to that. Pretty sure I was in the fetal position by the end of that game.

The Last of Us, Metal Gear Solid 3 and 4, Journey, Ori and the Blind Forest, some examples of emotional moments on gaming.

I cried when I fell into that first hole on Super Mario Bros for the 100th time... I was 8 years old, then.

OhMyGandhi1174d ago

A teachable moment for sure.

"Son, you are Mario, and that other platform, just beyond the pit of despair, those are your dreams. Just keep going at it. You should be able to succeed.

(later on)

Notice how you keep failing. Sometimes, you just gotta know when to give up. May I suggest playing pong with a second controller plugged in and no one playing it? That way you can enjoy victory. Every time."
