The PS4's Cloud Save System Is Inadequate

In the comparison between PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Sony is about as behind in how they handle cloud saves as they are in getting their console to run Halo. It’s time for them to close this gap.

I ran out 2 days ago :(

Need to start deleting some old ps3 save files.

susuFOX1175d ago

No. each system (PS4, PS3 and Vita) gets 1GB.

@ susuFOX

Are you sure? I couldn't upload a couple of PS4 saves until I deleted some old PS3 saves.

Even worse, if the space is out, all the uploads are blocked

Yes, this definitely needs to be improved upon. I haven't ran into this problem of running out of online storage yet but I'm sure that it will eventually come up if I keep playing games and saving them online.

It is true and Sony needs to seriously fix this problem immdediately. They made it so the PS4 has these huge save files (10.5mbytes minimum, though a few are 3.15MB) and then limit the PS4's cloud save limit at 1GB. Which is just a bad mix for people you have a lot of games. They need to at the very least, up to PS4 limit. But they should also shrink the PS4 size files. The same games on X1 are less than 100KB compared to 10.5MB or more on the PS4. What a waste of space, way to inefficient.

Also, it doesn't even tell you have much space you are using and how much psace you have left on your cloud saves like the PS3 did. They need to include that too.

It is indeed. 1GB is simply not enough in today's day and age, and it can get extremely infuriating at times.

Sureshot1176d ago

Just curious but how much space do save files, profiles etc take up?

Genuine-User1176d ago

It is usually around 10-15Mb per save, but it can go upto 100MB with some games.

Well, just taking a quick look at my storage management, my PS4 currently has 3.14GB worth of game save data. So, in the almost two years I've had my ps4 I've gathered that much in save data.

snarls20001176d ago

wwe 2k15 was over 800 mb

sparced1175d ago

Minecraft and LBP 3 are both over 350mb for me.

I think the cloud save error is stopping me uploading YouTube videos.

dantesparda1175d ago

The minimum seems to be 10-10.5MBytes per save. Though there a few games that have a save file thats 3.15MB, but a lot of games do a ton automatic saves thereby eating a ton of space and there are a lot of games that have way bigger save files than that.

Driveclub's Ghost and Replay file can be hundreds of megabytes big. LBP is over 500MB, Apotheon is over 300MB and there are many more. Its ridiculous. Especially when the same save files are just 1-100Kbytes on the X1. It is wasteful and inefficient beyond belief, Especilly when HDD space is so precious. These devs and console makers don't seem to think so and waste all our space on huge updates and now saves.

It should have unlimited storage by now

dantesparda1175d ago

Unlimited storage and the ability to upload all our pics and videos to the cloud unlimitedly.

Sureshot1176d ago (Edited 1176d ago )

Damn I didn't know you only get cloud storage if you pay for PSplus! Seriously? Even my hotmail has 5gb and all I had to do was....nothing

Indeed it is. I've tweeted Shu and PlayStation multiple times about this. I filled up the 1GB on my PS4 PS+ cloud storage months ago. 1GB is adequate for the PS3 and Vita, but for some reason PS4 game save files are significantly larger. We need more space!
