PS4 celebrates six months on top in the UK in 2015

PlayStation 4 has been the best-selling games console every month of the year to-date, Sony has told MCV.

The company was speaking about the success in June of its limited edition console bundle, which features Warner Bros’ chart-topping title Batman Arkham Knight.

The story is too old to be commented.

Xbox has really lost their UK stranglehold to PlayStation

More worryingly, the US has been lost. That one will definitely sting.

I wonder whether Halo, TR and Forza will make a big difference in the UK this year?

Those games will help shift more consoles no doubt. But it won't make a significant difference in the ever growing gap, in my opinion.

Halo is the only game capable of making a blip on the radar, a lot of people without X1's can wait for Tomb Raider, and Forza is in no way a system mover. MS is going to heavily discount their system with bundles this holiday. It's the only way. Second place isn't a bad spot but when there's only two competing it looks a lot worse.

They will help close the gap (In the US) but not by as much as they closed the gap last year. And then the lead will stretch the following year by more than this year. I think Christmas 2016 will be the first year that Sony manage to stop that gap shrinking (in the US).

@Septic

I feel that the problem with the titles that MS are offering this autumn is that we have already seen a previous major release in each of those series, namely Forza and Halo.

You have to imagine that the hardcore XB fans will have made their purchase already and so I am not convinced we will see these huge percentage increases that some are suggesting. They will see an increase, sure, but not enough to worry Sony.

I feel like they have reached a tipping point where if you add up all their exclusives the console is a very viable secondry console option and this will obviously improve with the great looking titles they have for 2016.

Of course, Sony will likely hit their stride too come 2016 so I dont see the gap closing at this point. If there was ever a time to own multiple consoles, now is the time, I just cannot keep up with all the great games coming out.

I'm going to assume they count Rep of Ireland in their UK numbers and I can confirm that everyone I know who had a 360 last gen has jumped ship. I know that's anecdotal evidence but I'm not exaggerating when I say EVERYONE I know who had a 360, which is roughly 7 gamer friends, all jumped to PS4. It's hard to see the PS4 not winning the 8th gen.

The PS4 is steam rolling everywhere. It's what happens when you have great games on a solid system. Been playing Ethan Carter and am really happy it was brought to PS4. And knowing the developers of this game made their money back the first week on PSN, solidifies mindshare of publishers and developers, bringing more games to the system with little risk if its a quality title.

I don't think Xbone will ever get UK back.

Even last year when microsoft lied (lost count of their lies) about a temporary price drop to try and create a frenzy PS4 still outsold Xbone in the UK over the holidays.

Fantastic for Sony, not so good for MS and Nintendo when PS4 sells more than all their consoles have done this quarter.

Fantastic for gaming in general.. the console that was loud and proud to be a gaming console coming out on top has already sent a loud and clear message to Microsoft and hopefully Nintendo heard it too.
