Maybe the Chinese market opening up is a reason for it? Either way, great stuff by Sony

Letthewookiewin1201d ago

I'm thinking it's more about all the JRPG's, first party games and third party domination that's going to do it for them.

Septic1201d ago

Yeah next year their games really start to shine so it makes sense, particularly in Japan, as you say, the JRPG's look wicked.

FallenAngel19841201d ago

PS4 hasn't even had a price cut yet and its already at 25 million. Its very possible that it could reach or even surpass Sony's expectation of 38.8 million by the end of March 2016.

Rimeskeem1201d ago

If Uncharted 4 comes out before the end of March I can see that

Letthewookiewin1201d ago

Uncharted 4 is launching Feb 22nd. My guess, I feel really good about that date..

Ocsta1201d ago

Hahaha dude you are THE Uncharted bugle blower around here. Keep up the good work man.

sonarus1201d ago

Good point about the no price cut. But they will have to do so eventually.

freshslicepizza1201d ago

we could theoretically say 50 million by the end of 2016 which is very impressive. just imagine if they get games like horizon out and (crosses fingers) gt7. 2016 looks to be more impressive for games than this year and if sony does drop the price look out.

Can't wait for that slim version, whenever they announce it.

kraenk121201d ago

sure it's gonna take a while. It's already a slim version tbh...they are gonna do hardware revisions before they change the size.

Crimzon1201d ago

I'd honestly prefer a fat version with better airflow so the console runs quieter, but they'd never release revised hardware that was larger than the original.

PrinceOfAllSaiyans1201d ago

This is crazy. It's obvious last gen was a fluke for Sony. PlayStation is back on top like it has been since the PS1. PS1, PS2, and now PS4 are slaughtering the competition.

kneon1201d ago

It was the Wii that was the fluke, without the massive Wii sales PS3 would have been on top rather than second place.

LordMaim1201d ago

Well lets be fair, Sony was a victim of its own ambition last generation. The Cell processor was a costly gamble that almost blew up in their face, and only when they started offering support from their internal teams did third party software start to take advantage of the PS3's power. PS4 is more of a return to form, with a system that is easy to program for, and powerful enough to carry anything they throw at it.

BitbyDeath1201d ago

Sony shipped 12.1M last year for Q2-Q4.
So 12.1M on top of 25.3M makes 37.4M.

The numbers seem pretty conservative IMO.

ravinash1201d ago

Also best to be conservative with your estimates.

Go high and you don't make it, then people think there is a problem.
Go low and get more, then people go WOW!

chrisx1201d ago (Edited 1201d ago )

Don't be suprised if the Ps4 slighty ships more than this even. Ps World Tour

TwoForce1201d ago

Sony don't need price drop. Because it's reaching to the sky and beyond.
