With 343 Industries recently revealing that there will now be no split-screen multiplayer in Halo 5: Guardians, Dom has classed this act as the final straw for his support of the game on Microsoft's next generation console.
And don't let the door hit your arse on the way out :)
Forget that, let the door hit your whiny butt and knock you into the yard!
Good, another whiny little brat not appearing on xbox live. Leaves the game open to real gamers to play and enjoy.
I stopped at "Now with Halo 5: Guardians, I have been waiting for he game to truly win me over. Waiting for the defining moment that would see the game and the console to me once and for all." I hate having to re-read sentences multiple times to try and figure out what the person meant.
So you think “Massive scale environments, better visuals and improved AI”. isn't a good enough justification for the removal of split-screen which is probably a niche feature now. Nostalgia is a weak emotion. I'd rather them benefit the many than just the few to feed your memories of halo Combat Evolved. My $0.02.
with the way the industry is heading it's no surprise. How many games nowadays release with local, split screen co-op anyways? Sure it would have been a nice feature, but I agree with you. I would take larger worlds, more complex AI and better visuals/framerates over being able to play with someone sitting next to me.
Yes this is where the industry is headed, online online online removing the couch match experience from existence bit by bit as if its no longer fun or desired to have friends over and have at it in split screen. Its funny because the most fun I had playing a game in recent memory was playing Rocket League with my friends in (you guessed it) 2v2 split screen. Now if 343 says removing split screen mode from Halo (unthinkable for a Halo game, admittedly )will allow for a better game overall who am I to say otherwise...
@UltraNova - yeah, I had some amazing memories playing Halo 1 and 2 with my buddy split screen, and games like Goldeneye even before that. I am a huge fan of couch co-op. But it's not a dealbreaker for me.
hmmm, being able to play on your own screen full sized at any time with up to 24 people versus a split-screen of up to 4 people who you need 4 controllers for and get organized? yes it's nice to have options, yes it's really fun playing with friends but it also puts more pressure on the hardware to perform. so when you add it all up it is not really a deal breaker in my eyes.
Or Halo 2, 3, ODST, Reach, 4... Oh sorry. Missed the part where recent releases somehow didn't offer split screen and that it really wasn't a huge point for Halo as not many titles offered the same level of split screen. /s
Who cares, all of you guys need cheese with your whine. The new warzone mode looks more then worth it.
Clearly people care otherwise you wouldn't be complaining about the "whiners" huh? Just a thought. Stripping features to meet a target also shows a problem. Warzone wouldn't be missing if split screen was included. Having split screen in past titles also didn't stop Halo from advancing.
No, the majority of people do not care, its a minority of very vocal people that will complain about it, just like everything. Then said feature will be very underused. So it is better to use dev time to implement features that will improve the game and gameplay rather than devote that time to something only a small minority will actually use.
So what you're saying is it's better for them to strip gameplay features in favor of shinier graphics and to hit a target... Literally. Did 343 say things like Warzone couldn't be added if split screen still existed? No. Did they say the gameplay couldn't advance with split screen? No. They literally said they're using the same resources that could be used for split screen features to hit a 1080p/60fps target. You think that's magically happening because they removed split screen? Again, no it isn't. So in other words what you're talking about is 343 deciding that graphics>gameplay features. The flip being the only place it wouldn't be 1080p/60fps is WHILE USING SPLIT SCREEN!
I said recent releases. As in PS4 or XBO titles specifically. obviously Halo titles offered split screen in the past, I never denied that fact. Hell I even mentioned it in one of my subsequent comments.
goodie the media is reaching for idiotic reasons to bash the xbox one i mean who still uses this feature in 2015 & of course he mentioned mcc in a halo 5 video typical gaming media
Maybe households that have more than one gamer but less than 2 separate boxes & televisions? Probably a bigger section than you think. And it seems to be totally relevant to mention the previous installment in a franchise released the year prior as a broken experience. Not sure that "the media" has it out for the XBO, maybe the dude is a legitimate fan w/ complaints on its future and not a puppet on MS' string that will completely agree w/ anything they ever do?
I understand wanting to have certain features in the game, but "Final straw".... Game hasn't released yet, They're clearly focusing on co-op being a big part and they're adding Dedicated servers to Campaign so it's a pretty awesome trade off for people like me who enjoy playing the game with my friends online. This does put a damper on my LAN parties so it does suck a bit but hardly worth crying over since Custom Games get dedicated servers as well and all it means is my LAN parties will probably be filled with mostly Nintendo games, and Gears UE.
I doubt the publishers/developers care at all but I for one won't bother with Halo 5. I'm terrible at online, only thing I play is split screen. It's literally my go-to coop game and I never ever play it alone. It's sad shame to see split screen vanishing from so many games..
Yeah it's a bit sad. Last gen I bought 2 xbox360 just so I had more games to play coop with my wife, but this is an expensive approach. I'll problably end up doing the same this gen tho, by getting a second PS4 at some point, when theres a high enough amount of coop games to justify it.
That's probably what ill have to do although I'm really not happy about it. Alot of people on this site seems to think nobody ever plays split screen anymore. They obviously don't realise alot of people play with their partners. I think the younger gamers do it appreciate how important split screen is as they probably haven't ever really used it. Especially those that only really jumped into gaming last gen when online multiplayer became popular.
Day one see you guys on warzone ha ha split screen bye bye.
Warzone is going to dominate my game time. I can foresee this. I wont miss split screen .
For sure its the kind of thing where even spectating would be worth it for a change .
Its going to make for some fantastic replay vids and uploaded clips. :)
