Used to be a huge fan of this guy but he has become such a frame rate elitist now, his videos are just full of whining and very little quality talk about gameplay, design and all the other things that really matter.

A game is rubbish unless its 60+ fps? please can you just climb out of your own *** and pay us a visit back in reality.

TWB3611d ago (Edited 3611d ago )

I think he is not saying that the game is rubbish because its not 60 FPS. First and foremost, he has said that he's now so used to high framerates that he cant play at sub 60 anymore (which I think is sad but thats his point which I can understand.)

The second reason why he complains about it so much is usually either because the game runs horribly (poorly optimized) or because the developer has introduced a 30 FPS hard lock which is completely ass backwards for PC gaming. He's raisin awareness about this stuff so it wont even remotely become a norm in PC gaming. I have seen a rise in games that are hard locked, thats terrible IMO.

PC gaming is about freedom of choice, restrictions like 30 FPS framelock goes completely against that and arguably makes mouse controls much worse.

*when I play on PC, I usually always aim at 60 FPS, 40 at minimum but I can still stand playing console games at 30 no problem (or in the case of old games, 25 FPS PAL) but when you are used to having mouse which you use to point at stuff which usually follows your movement precisely without huge latencies, then go to play a game at 30 FPS, the movement latency is extremely noticeable and can be distracting depending on the game.

It's not arguable that it makes mouse controls worse, it's a fact! I don't like using mouse and keyboard for any games except for games like Minecraft but if it's running lower than 60fps it feels horrible. With a controller 30fps is playable but it still feels much better at 60fps. Destiny is a perfect example, my aim is so off in that game simply because of the laggy feel the controls have at 30fps. COD while it has been a horrible franchise the past couple of years at least they always hit 60fps which is why they are one of the few console developers who understand games should always hit that number. The Last of Us played so much better at 60fps. Even inFamous Second Son at around 45fps felt so much better than 30fps.

Perjoss3611d ago (Edited 3611d ago )

I totally agree about the mouse look controls not being very good under a 30fps lock but if you look on his Steam curators group you will see a ton of games that are meant to be played with a control pad. Playing a game with a pad at 30fps is perfectly acceptable, this is why you see games like Uncharted and RDR getting insanely high review scores, not to mention being awarded GOTY.

I honestly think he is doing more harm than good, if this kind of thing takes off it might scare some smaller developers from porting their games to PC, I'd much rather play a game at 30 than not play it at all.

If he cannot play games at 30 because he's so used to 60 there is nothing wrong with that at all, but he really is pushing this and trying to convince everyone that his way of playing a game is the only way. He kind of gives PC gamers a bad name because we don not all fall under the elitist masterrace category.

Edit: on topic though, his GoG sale list is actually pretty good.

@The reply to me.

The thing is, framerate does not correlate to studio size most of the time. If the developers tie the game physics to framerate and lock it or just design the game with the basic idea of locking it to 30, its poor game design and should be brought up unless they have a really special reason to do so (animated game, turn base etc. He didnt bother with it too much in his last video because it was turn based.).

This used to be the case with games 20-30 YEARS ago for different reasons (maybe HW and SW limitations of old games and how they were made to the machines) but at this day and age there should be zero reasons for such nonesense. Thats the key point with his 30 FPS lock hate.

Even those that port their games from the mobile phones with 30 FPS lock (which is understandable in moblie enviroment to save power) do a LAZY work if they cannot remove the lock or tied the physics to framerate which leads back to the "stupid design decision" point.

Do you get it now? I think its legit criticism.

20 Best Arcade Games of All Time

Undoubtedly, the universe of video games has advanced to unsuspected limits. The characters almost pierce the screen, the controls are more likely than ever and virtual reality is already beginning to invade us, but let’s be honest, who doesn’t miss the best arcade games from time to time?

The games of the 80s and 90s have left a deep mark in the lives of all those who have been able to enjoy them so much that it is almost impossible to choose between the best arcade games of all time. Its simplicity has been addictive for many and perhaps that is the key to its success, is not it?

Although you surely know perfectly well what we are talking about, did you know that “arcade” is, in its origin, the generic term used to refer to the arcade machines? Later it served to designate the genre of video games that we all know, those classics capable of returning great memories to our minds. There are sports, racing, simulation or wrestling, and all of them have managed to survive the passage of time.

In Technologizer we can read that the first coin-operated recreation machine was Computer Space. The company Nutting Associates launched it in 1971 and its creators, Nolan Bushnell and Ted Dabney, invested all the benefits in the launch of Atari. Yes, the same Atari that later gave life to games as well known as Asteroids or Pong.

Good to see Metal Slug on the list, surprised to see it so far up though. Recently saw a Top 50 Arcade games list that didn't include Metal Slug at all.

nelsonraw2431d ago

what do you think then bro, it deserves that position or not?

Skuletor2431d ago

I think it deserves a spot in the Top 20 Arcade games list , I just would have rated some of the other games above it myself.

darthv722430d ago

some honorable mentions should be virtua racing, after burner, defender, marvel vs capcom, tempest... they all have some influence on other games throughout history.

Einhander19712430d ago

To be honest there are so many arcade classics and hidden gems. No matter how advanced gaming becomes the arcades of the 80s and 90s will always be the best. I still play them all now.

Gamist2dot02430d ago

Besides SFII, Wrestle Fest was also the game I always play no matter how many times i've beaten the game with one credit.

Tetsujin2430d ago

Honorable Mentions:

X-Men vs Street Fighter
Tekken 3
Gauntlet
Power Stone
X-Men Arcade
Virtua Fighter 2
DDR Extreme
Capcom vs SNK

Gearbox cuts ties with G2A because they failed to meet their demands - This is why we left G2A

"Just recently Gearbox dropped their "Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition" deal with G2A, as they failed to meet their ethics demands. Well, that's no news by now. However, we have a history with G2A. So I want to share our experience with them with you all. So here's my take on the Gearbox/G2A deal and G2A as a whole" - Robin Ek, TGG

Littil_Devil2979d ago

I've been avoiding G2A for years, so this comes as no surprise to me.

TGG_overlord2979d ago

The last time that I bought anything from them was back in mid 2015...

XbladeTeddy2979d ago

What about the limited editions? Thought it was G2A who were actually making the models...

Simon_the_sorcerer2979d ago

Hmm, that's worth looking into for sure.

TGG_overlord2979d ago

I think that one is not going to happen now, as Gearbox doesn't want to have anything to do with G2A.

XbladeTeddy2979d ago

That could cost G2A then as they must have been in production.

Gh05t2979d ago

Gearbox drops a partner over ETHICS... could they be more hypocritical?

Simon_the_sorcerer2979d ago

I never intended to buy any of their games anyways. My thoughts exactly...

TGG_overlord2979d ago

Some people believe that this was just a PR-trick by Gearbox to get sympathy buyers for their games. I don't know if that's the truth, but it wouldn't surprise me if it's the actual truth behind it all.

season842979d ago

That's exactly what I thought too.

Simon_the_sorcerer2979d ago

Wait, Gearbox? Didn't their CEO sing some anti-GamerGate song live not so long ago? Furthermore, G2A should be taken to court for their bs moves in the games industry.

TGG_overlord2979d ago

Simon_the_sorcerer@ "Hmm, that's worth looking into for sure."

- I'm going to mail Gearbox about it.

TGG_overlord2979d ago

Done and made, so I'll let you know what they told me asap.
