Everything Wrong With PlanetSide 2

PSLS writes: In this week’s Friday video, we’re once again taking a a look at everything a game has done wrong and this time, it’s PlanetSide 2’s turn.

Yes, we know PlanetSide 2 is a free-to-play game, but that doesn’t mean it’s immune to any faults. Just what did we not like in the massively online shooter? Watch the video to find out.

I agree on these points I've played quite a bit and still I don't know 100% what to do.

same here, i remember playing about 2 years ago, and was instantly turned off by that.

Same. It's not like I'm an FPS noob either. I play a ton of Battlefield and when I play PS2, I have no clue what to do aside from just killing enemies. :(

I spent about 3 hours playing. I could see myself getting into this game, but the microtransactions/subscription model just turns me off. Would be sweet if I could just buy the whole game and be done.

You don't need a subscription to play and the microtransactions aren't needed either. You can earn everything in-game from just playing, see it like those all weapon unlock kits that Battlefield has, not needed since you can unlock it. Then there's a bunch of cosmetic stuff you can pay for.

Though, I do admit once you get really into it you do not want to look like the rest and you want a sub so you can skip the queue and it can be frustrating when your tank gets 2-shot killed by a way better canon while you pumped 8 hits into them without even getting damaged all that much so you want to upgrade some stuff sooner. Which is a shame if I'm honest since then it becomes Pay to Win suddenly.

I still enjoy it but it does get repetitive after a while and there's still plenty wrong with it, I hate the annoying pop-up, going around a corner, seeing 1 enemy, shoot at him, then suddenly another 1 or 2 enemies pop onto the screen which were there already but weren't rendered yet, while they could see you since they are firing at you already. At times you see that something is firing but you see no enemy (and no these instances are not those infiltrators that can become invisible) or you span at a Sunderer, walk and then the Sunderer is rendered... on top of you...

@Thunder Yup, hence why I mentioned it. That's the one thing I don't like, you can earn them in game without paying real money but it takes time and throwing money at it means you can upgrade it way earlier, then again if you just start a new character with the idea of just upgrading your tank's canon you can use the Certs you earn inside the game instead to pay for the upgrade...

I hate getting ran over by teammates when I spawn.

I spent 1.5 hours on the game, I dont know whats going on, it's as if I always end up on nearly empty servers. So far I have racked up 2 kills.

Do you need a reason? If we look at real life and you see the reason some wars were started its ridiculous. There's ussually not a reason to justify a war. This was also clearly a game that didn't need one. Haven't played it but also just expected it to be a massive online fighter with no story... You know like how it was advertised and on the PC as?

Awww just go and get Planetside its all explained there :) even the respawning after death, but yeah you dont need a reason just that your faction is the best and you need to turn everything red/blue/purple :)

I've played it for about 4 hours
but i just can't get into it
i feel like this is another battlefield where people just aren't working together
rather doing random stuff thats not that objective

Well, at least in BF you have objective markers that you KNOW you have to go to. Once you're there, you can shoot people attacking/defending, or go to that flag. Super easy.

In PS2, I spawn near my mates, they're camping in a vehicle for something, I have no clue what, and I kill enemies at a spot, but I don't know how to proceed or what to do next. Know what I mean?

Come on, there are big objective markers telling you what to do. just look around.

Yeah, the directive you see on the left of the screen isn't clear at all, ahem, and then when you arrive at the position you were directed to those A, B and C capture points are really unclear as well! /s

Though there are other things you can do de-stabilise or stabilise power reactors to bring down shields, destroy the vehicle terminals, etc., etc.

The game even literally tells you where to go. The announcer can be heard, very often, saying what is under attack. Or, take the fight to certain objective. Not to mention that the objectives already taken will be in your team's colors, while the objectives needed to be taken will remain white. I think the hardest part for me was figuring HOW to spawn at or near said objectives.

It's a competitive shooter, but with no winning or losing. No payoff. There's no matches, it just keeps going forever. That's what stopped me from getting into it. It's cool if people like it, just not for me.

I am loving this game. I imagine I've sunk more than 20 hours into it on ps4. Loved it on pc also. Just wish it was on par with pc. Update wise. So much is missing. That will change though.

Really enjoying this game! Glad it finally made its way to PS4!
