The Final Fantasy VII scenes that probably won't reach the remake

Eurogamer: The original game was such a weird and wonderful melting pot of themes and ideas that it's hard to imagine it actually working under a HD magnifying glass. VII had a twisted sense of humour that's subsequently gotten lost in sequels like Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus, which side-stepped a lot of the more whimsical story elements of their predecessor and focused on the trendily grim and gritty. I hope Nomura and team don't make the same mistake with this one, but here are a couple of the scenes I fear may not make the final cut. It sucks, I know. Should you need comforting afterwards, here's the Cosmo Canyon theme. You're welcome.

they havent read the interview i guess

psychobabble1255d ago (Edited 1255d ago )

I know, right? They specifically said in one of the interviews that they intended to keep all the craziness, including Cloud in a dress.

edit: Here...

jambola1255d ago

I;m confused
I find it kind of hard to believe this kind of information would be so hard to come across

isarai1255d ago

Like i've said countless times, it really seems as if people have forgotten how to use google and youtube, or that they even exist for that matter.

Irishguy951255d ago

Author of an article, the ones who fail to do research.

rainslacker1254d ago

Why research when you can make an article and get hits by making assumptions based on what other people probably already said in forums because it's unlikely that the authors themselves could think well enough to make valid arguments for anything that they point out.

Heck, I even mentioned some of the things in this article, wondering how they would approach it, or that it would seem weird in the AC style.

Pozzle1255d ago

I personally can't wait to see Red XIII dressed in a ShinRa uniform in HD and everyone falls for it.

cpayne931255d ago

LOL forgot about that part.

Pozzle1255d ago (Edited 1255d ago )

I'd forgotten about the part where Cloud rides a dolphin out to sea then lets it flip him up to the top level of Junon. I'm curious to see how Square will pull off that scene. lol.

Anthotis1255d ago

I doubt they'll cut the non PC stuff.

Pandering to SJWs is a western thing, anyway.

Stringerbell1255d ago (Edited 1255d ago )

Pandering is Final Fantasy 7. All these side games, the film, and now this remake has been pandering. Not bad, not good, just what it is.

I don't care that sections of the FF7 fandom may or may not be okay with certain scenes from the game. Thats life. I'm more worried about the company making this game.

Everything that Square has made to compliment the FF7 universe, sucked hard in fact (my opinion).

The amount of BS DLC in lighting returns should be a warning sign for everyone. I'm waiting for Vincent to be DLC character, Gamestop to get the Fort Condor mini game, and Knight of the Round to be some sort of a preorder bonus.

TFJWM1255d ago

I don't think you understand the defintion of pandering. Making all those side games and movies was milking FF VII but it was not pandering... No one was asking for all those games/movies, you can say that FF VII is pandering thou

Stringerbell1255d ago

Pander: To cater to the lower tastes and desires of others *or exploit their weaknesses.*

You like Final Fantasy 7 right?

Here is a movie, here is a side game, look Lighting is dressed like Cloud. FF7 on Steam!

Thats exploiting peoples fondness for the game in my humble opinion.

Anthotis1255d ago

Because the game was the best of it's series and one of the best games, period.

It got a full length cinematic and prequel on account of it's awesomeness.

OHHH, not a DLC outfit for a character in another FF game! We must be in the eye of the DLC storm.

Bill Paxton help us!

Stringerbell1255d ago (Edited 1255d ago )

Yes the game is good thats it, I'm not a fan of the side stuff. I realize other people like that stuff so more power to them.

My point was for years they were pandering to the fanbase

remember this-

and this-

Who the hell asked for that? Just some exec saying to himself if you slap FF7 on it, they will come. Figuratively and literally.

Basically if you have something critically acclaimed you have to treat it with respect (at least you should). Not drag its name through the mud taking advantage of peoples nostalgia.

Like when Nike tried to use Beatles songs to advertise trainers:

"If it's allowed to happen, every Beatles song ever recorded is going to be advertising women's underwear and sausages. We've got to put a stop to it in order to set a precedent. Otherwise it's going to be a free-for-all. - George Harrison

And when it comes to Square and DLC I hope I'm wrong. Their most recent releases say other wise but still. I hope that every experience I had with the original game will be present and not hidden behind a paywall. Fingers crossed.

What gets cut and what stays likely depends on technical ability. Like towns, shops and crowds/NPC interaction being non-elements in "corridor simulator" that was FF13.

jambola1255d ago

People really are incapable of mentioning ff13 in comments of finial fantasy games aren't they?
It's been like 6 years, get over it.

Godmars2901255d ago (Edited 1255d ago )

Could complain about FF10-2, FF10's lack of an overworld, as the start of Square making compromises instead if you like.

Never mind that over six years ago FF15 had been announced right along side of FF13 under a different name. Has suffered changes in story and characters - seemingly because of technical issues which have also caused delays.

DaddyPoppa1255d ago (Edited 1255d ago )

Final fantasy 15 had Story changes happened because the technology got better, and partially due to the fact that Tabata took over as director.

Godmars2901255d ago

You honestly call "better" losing control of the party? Having what was the main heroine swapped from a promised active to passive role?

goldwyncq1255d ago

^ I wish people would stop passing judgement on characters we hardly know anything about. For all we know, Luna could end up having a more active role than Stella.

isarai1255d ago

Don't get why anything from a PS1 game would need to be cut,

Ratty1255d ago

My thoughts exactly. They should be adding/improving stuff. Not the other way around.

rainslacker1254d ago

FF7 was pretty crazy in some of the things it did. It was cute or funny in the PS1 style, but when putting it in the more detailed AC style that this game is being done in, it would seem woefully out of place if not updated to more common sensibilities.

Not saying it can't be done, just requires some clever creative direction. Some of the things being mentioned I'm actually quite anticipating to see how they'll handle it, since they left out a lot of this humorous type stuff from AC.

There was also racism and sexism in the game which is likely going to be raked over the coals because of all the things going on today. Not that the story every really promoted being those things, just that some of the characters were like that...even some of the main characters. Barret was rather stereotypical, and Cid was pretty sexist.

The female characters mostly were rather submissive to Cloud's story, despite having pretty deep back stories and reasons for being so, and I doubt many SJW of today understand the importance that Aerith played in the story, so that will probably get pretty heavily criticized.

Irishguy951255d ago

See FFXV, it has all that.

I agree FFXIII was unbelievably shit tho

jambola1255d ago

hear me out
you could talk about Final fantasy 7 in the comment section of an article on Final fantasy 7, instead of harping on about 13

Spotie1255d ago

Sore wa sore, kore wa kore.

VII is not XIII. Talk about VII.

Godmars2901255d ago

What is there to talk about VII?

Spotie1255d ago

Plenty. For me, anyway.

If you can't find anything, you can always just say nothing at all. That'd more productive than unwarranted fear mongering.

aerisbueller1255d ago

It'd be epic if you could save Aeris this time around.

ameliabaz1255d ago

I hope not. Not only is Aeris' death an iconic moment in the series, but it is integral to the plot.

aerisbueller1255d ago (Edited 1255d ago )

Yeah, actually I guess you're right. It was one of the most important scenes/events in the game/series.

I was just thinking of the rumors from back then about how you could save her and the bugs people found to keep her alive when I left my comment.

MyDietEqualsGames1255d ago

Remake insinuates they could go either way with her death, also I heard they originally intended for her to be revived.

DarkBlood1255d ago

At least some sort of gameplay function where she can still be a party member somewhere unlockable in the overworld

Irishguy951255d ago

Nahh that death scene was nice. Story should stay the same. Maybe dialogue changes since there were no facial expressions in the old ones. Hard to convey sadness only through words.

Pozzle1255d ago

Aww man, I hope Square get the voice acting right in the remake, because Cloud's speech ("She'll will no longer talk, no longer laugh, cry or get angry") after the death scene has so much potential to be amazing if it's done right.

Irishguy951255d ago

Yeah I know pozzle..but....its.kinda bound to be cheesy...I dunno we'll see..I hope so too XD

Ratty1255d ago

Or they'll make the option of saving her into a DLC xD
