Batman: Arkham Knight Review- Game of the Year Contender- Gameondaily

"Warning some spoilers to previous games but not to Arkham Knight itself. So if you haven’t played Asylum, City or Origins, please tread carefully…or play them as they are fine games.

Its finally here! Sound the horns, raise the mizzenmast, open the box of M &S canapes and kiss your neighbor on the cheek inappropriately; with Witcher 3 and now Batman: Arkham Knight, the next generation seems to have finally arrived. About bloody time."

I love batman the city just looks amazing.

Volkama3585d ago

But Batman hates you.

Don't take it personally though. I think it is written into Sony's marketing contract with Warner Bros that Batman has to hate you. Your constant praise for all things Microsoft has seen you become part of DC lore.

StrayaKNT3585d ago

That's ok he can hate me I like the joker more anyway :p

Takwin3585d ago

It cannot be game of the year because of The Witcher and Bloodborne.

It cannot be game of the year because of one of the most broken PC launches ever.

And it cannot be game of the year because of the forced inclusion of the Batmobile, which ruined the game for me personally.

Even if you disagree with the third statement (and possibly the first), the broken and possibly criminal PC release negates true GOTY.

On top of that, we still have Metal Gear, Xenblade X, Fallout 4, XCOM 2, Hitman, and Just Cause 3.

No way in hell this is #1 by the end of the year. A solid 7th or 8th place in what will go down as an amazing year for gaming.

wannabe gamer3585d ago

who cares about GOTY anyway. it is MEANINGLESS when you have 20 games all with the label applied to themselves at the end of the year.... just stfu and play what you enjoy. I am a PC gamer and im playing the game just fine since launch im one of the lucky ones that is able to play just fine but even if i couldnt i wouldnt care if console gamers that have no issue with the game want to call it their GOTY cause it really doesnt matter. when it gets down to it GOTY only matters to the individuals preference and experience.

Get_A_Job_Foxtrot3585d ago

As a Playstation fan and huge FromSoftware fan, Bloodborne really wasn't that great. In my opinion.

Omegasyde3585d ago

Even if it doesnt win goty

There will be goty version with all dlc in 6+months for regular price. If its a warner game there will be goty/deluxe edition later on.

Well people will love what they love. I personally don't think this Batman bests the 1st two games. The side quests are grindy and repetitive with the worst being the Riddler batmobile challenges (the constant trips down the elevator). Seriously this is why gaming is taking a turn for the worst, gamers are becoming a passive bunch of consumers that will settle for anything. Is it a fun game? Yes. Does it live up to the hype? Not by a long shot.

Really liking it so far, I even like the Batmobile sections that the majority of people seem to dislike.

The-Marb3585d ago

IMO They are just laid on a bit thick that's all.

Rocksteady have had 3 games to get everything else polished and the vehicle combat feels a little unpolished to me.

Grap3585d ago

More like Batman: Tank simulator.

hirobrotagonist3585d ago (Edited 3585d ago )

Arkham Knight was good (yes I beat it, on pc no less) but it doesn't even touch Bloodborne or Witcher 3. It's a good game though, with some minor technical annoyances. The boss battles are basically the worst in the series, in my opinion. (SPOILERS) The car battles should have ended in melee combat. Isn't it sad that Arkham Origins had some of the best boss battles in the series?

The-Marb3585d ago

Witcher 3 is going to get a similarly high rating I think.IMO there is more wrong with Witcher 3 in terms of technical issues and other niggling things but its hard not to admire it when its so ambitious and huge.

Take out the car criticisms (which I'm still not sure isn't my personal preference)and Arkham Knight is pretty much a faultless game. Pacing is great, as is characterization, combat, variation in level structure, etc.

I think the boss battles have improved with every game personally, but that's IMO. I agree Origins finally got them right but this carried on the work.

Grap3585d ago

It seems people only love this game because it has Batman name on it

The-Marb3585d ago

Not at all. Its just a really polished, accomplished title.

There's no way you could objectively sit and play this and not find some enjoyment.

Skankinruby3585d ago

Reviews for this are so hot and cold, not sure who to trust. Definitely will say that the batmobile mechanics alone is a stupid reason to hate it.

HammadTheBeast3585d ago

As far as I've seen, PC issues aside, it seems to be a solid game.

MasterCornholio3585d ago

Yep just ignore reviews of the PC version if your planning on buying it for consoles.

Takwin3585d ago

I cannot put into words how much I hated the Batmobile and wished it was completely optional. My wife and daughter watched portions of the game and thought it was out of place and neither liked it either.

We hand-picked the 20 best Steam Deck games under $10 in the Steam Autumn Sale, up to 95% off

I would also add Risk of Rain 2 as long as you don't stray too far from a power source as each run can be long as the hours melt away. Another thing to note is that based on the reports, the FPS may drop into the 40s if a lot of enemies are on the screen.

There is also the Half Life series. If you haven't played half-life before then you can do so now at the super low price.

cthulhucultist144d ago

Mafia was amazing looking and had a great story. Played flawlessly at 30fps as well without dips 99% of the time.

The same is true for Jedi Fallen Order

Sony games as also on sale. Picked up Rachet and Clank, cant wait to try it!

6 Games That Genuinely Deserve A Current-Gen Upgrade

Games such as Mad Max, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Batman: Arkham Knight desperately deserve a modern-day revisit.

thorstein373d ago

Mad Max is underrated. Such a fun game.

Cacabunga372d ago (Edited 372d ago )

RDR2 still looks astounding on PS4 Pro. i cannot imagine how it could look with a next gen upgrade.

JonTheGod372d ago (Edited 372d ago )

Probably not very different.

No idea why this article is highlighting recent beautiful graphically-advanced games and saying they need current gen makeovers. They already look better than most new releases; just compare Arkham Knight and Suicide Squad!

exputers372d ago

I see what you did there.

Yi-Long372d ago

It's obviously never gonna happen since Sony killed the game and studio, but Driveclub. Even in its current state, 10 years after release, it still puts many competitors to shame ...

Demetrius372d ago

I'm not into racing games but yeah I even looked at gameplay of that sometimes

redrum06344d ago

It's a shame they cancelled the game. Definitely the best racing game I've ever played on Playstation. Just got GT7, but it feels so slow and less arcade-y, which is to be expected of a sim racer of course, that I just enjoy it less.
Driveclub also graphically looked insanely good for its time. I wonder what a Driveclub 2 would look like for the PS5.

Demetrius372d ago

Mad max ikr! Far cry primal, it amuses me how ubisoft just left ac unity hanging, sadly most of the good staff left from rocksteady while being forced to make that abomination smh
